From Dr. H. Margaret MD, who created the design:
Why I like it:
- made from a single piece of cloth
- easily cut as a 12 inch square
- no seams needing clipped or pressed during construction
- no tricky steps requiring multiple clips or pins, curves or pleats.
- very forgiving for the novice at sewing, will still work even if it is not perfectly perfect
- stays on for short trips without even needing tied
- stretchy head strap keeps it comfortable, easy to take down and put back in place
To put the mask on, shorten the space between the top of the mask and the cord, pull this into position on the back of your head. Press the nose plate to shape and comfort. Tug both ends of the cord up and out to create gathers and seal the mask around the sides and chin. Tie the ends in back of the neck if desired.
A simple way to clean your mask is to rub it with your hands under soap and water. Rinse well. Drying in the sun is very good, or clothes dryer works too. If you really want to feel it has been sanitized, press with a hot iron.
If you are drawn to being extra diligent in laundering your mask, make a mini-washing machine using a ziploc bag. Add some water and soap and rub it up down and sideways. Pour off the soapy water and add clean water, zip and repeat. One or two rinses will have it cleaner than clean. Don’t make yourself crazy fearing the cooties on your mask, they are your germs anyway.
