@SealTeamSekc An overreaction? Well, here is a message from my uncle's pastor in the LCMS's Indiana district: "Here's my pastor's response to your note about the New Large Catechism (4/3): Jim. We have discussed this as pastors and we agree there are some fairly obvious insults to our faith. There are some good features but we have ample good catechisms that we will not be flocking to this one. Pastors in our LCMS district (Indiana District) won't be buying any..." Are all these pastors overreacting?🤔

@danbratten3103 if those pastors don't want to adopt this book as teaching material, that's their prerogative, at least so I think. But your specific comment was that the large catechism with contemporary essays, not additions, just commentary, food for thought; is the introduction of left wing policy into the LCMS. I can't and won't put words into your uncles pastors pastor friends mouths from one sentence. The large catechism was originally written not only as an explanation of the faith, something the small catechism already does, but further places the faith within the sinful world we inhabit. On the very first page of the large catechism is an excerpt from Luther literally imploring the reader and Christian to not get emotional while discussing being a Christian within the sinful world. Which is something I see many people not acknowledging while reading this book. If you can't discuss sin without sounding like a leftist, then who's the one putting politics into faith?

@@SealTeamSekc an essay,in a book that teaches people about faith in Christ, that says we cannot call out the sins of homosexuality because of our own sins, goes against the plain teaching of Holy Scripture, and what a pastor is to do. You show the sinner their sins with the Law so that they will see their sin, repent, and turn away from their sin & believe in the Gospel. That is the job of every pastor. But that essay says you shouldn't do that. And there will be people who will believe that stuff as gospel. That large catechisim with annotations is like a polished up corvette that a bird just crapped on. Yes, many parts of the car looks nice, but all people see is the bird crap. Yes, many parts on the new LC has many good annotations. But the ones in question ruin it.

​@danbratten3103 I believe more specifically that it cautions one to not leave them out of the church entirely, and distance them from the gospel, because we choose to so elevate one sin over another and forget that we are all equally sinful. And I hope you see that I'm not saying sin isn't sin. But if i am the one reading into it then that is my bad. But I do understand your concern. It's a fine line, and most have failed if they aren't based in scripture. I just see those essays as faithful. Not gospel, the authors are just people, but they are written from a basis in inerrant scripture.

Harrison has his fingers everywhere except guiding LCMS congregations in the US. Finally, the 120 year old church I grew up in is closing their doors. Why ????? because women were treated like doormats....that is taking submissive to the extreme. They havent had new members for over 30 years. There is a God and He is watching leaders, pastors, husbands and fathers not just little submissive women......Take care of your people!!!!!

The LCMS has hundreds of non-white congregations, including some black congregations which are over 150 years old. There are not as many of these congregations as there should be, but each of those congregations matter because they are made up of the people of God gathered around the gifts of God. We need to be planting more congregations in our cities, because there are souls there which need saving!

the LCMS is structured religion.....all about men and money and as Harrison said the decline in membership is because women are over educated and not submissive enough,..thats the LCMS leader

here is a question that weighs on my mind ......what does MSLC say about narcissistic people? Here is a clue "1 Corinthians 7: 15 tells us that if an unbeliever (this includes a narcissist [you can read my article about whether someone is a believer here]) can't live with you in peace, then let them live without you.

I saw the website congregations matter. Very amusing. church leaders from pastors, synod boys and deacons is where this should start.......those leaders have responsibilities that have gone decades and centuries promoting good old boys leaders where they have these leadership roles with having to take responsiblities for anything....a sense of entitlement where women in congregations have evolved to door mats. and demise of any marriage is "her fault" she was not submissive enough....she was over educated.......if men are leaders then they should be held responsible for the mess we are in...instead Harrison has his face in DC and webcasts and youtube

why would any believer follow Harrison? follow the Bible! Harrison wants his actor debut!!!! He loves the limelight. He has his face on KZbin and demonstrations in Washington DC. Instead of doing his job as leader of MSLC. He wants the attention

He's been turning a blind eye to many things the liberal wing in the LCMS has been doing for a while. His only serious challenger for Pres is a liberal, so he's trying to gain left leaning votes.

"alt right." Right. By God's grace, my small congregation is extremely orthodox and conservative. But many churches in our Synod are definitely going woke. It's sad.

@@luther1546 I have had LCMS shoved down my throat starting at age 4. My LCMS culture in my community was about appearance. A haven for narcissists and abuse. I have observed 4 generations of first hand account of adultry, pedifile, bare false witness against your neighbor -- gossip and lies about people where in we actually know from the Bible it is not for us to judge. Finally after 120 years my church is closing its doors. To date, this church has about 75 members to include children and adults. They cannot financially maintain the church. God is watching.

Not to judge? We are commanded repeatedly to make righteous judgements. That would include not blaming Beethoven for those who play his music poorly.

We know it's not between the beginning and end of Divine Liturgy (assembly) and especially not from a teaching position during Liturgy. Paul wasn't talking about keeping quiet in every single interaction with believers, like at common meals, family meetings, etc.
