Revali's story is one of the most heartbreaking for me at least. He seems like a total douche to Link, but Zelda had similar feelings about Link when they first met. It was only after time had passed and they grew to know each other that Zelda opened up to Link. Revali, on the other hand, didn't spend the time he could've with Link. His spirit says it's all about getting revenge on Ganon through Link, but maybe, he's helping Link out of regret for the lost friendship that they never had.

Ok. Am I about to go on another rant about Revali because I’m crying? Yes. So everyone knows Revali is cocky. That’s... his defining trait. So yes. You know. But if you look closely it is much more than that. He actually does care about things. It’s just that he was held to such a high standard that he couldn’t show any vulnerability. He was raised above the Rito, seen as much better. He convinced himself to play along, and didn’t let himself show weakness. We see this in the champions ballad cutscene for him! He’s forcing himself to perfect Revalis gale, and when he fails he berated himself for not being good enough, and gets very upset when he sees that Zelda saw! He also tired to show Link his gale, even when it wasn’t perfected. But link had his own way of coping- shutting the world out. So he had no reaction. So Revali was upset that his special move brought no reaction from the hero he was trying to reach out to! Also, if you look at the theory that the sos in the divine beast themes are compared to when the champions died against their blight- Revali survived longest. He had good reason to believe he was a good fighter! But he held out and didn’t call for help in time so the sos was rushed. He knew he was going to die. Lastly, the successors of the champions. Sidon is mipha’s brother. Riju is Urbosas successor as chief, and possibly a descendant or distant niece. Yunobo is Daruks descendant. Teba is... a warrior of the Rito and Someone who looks up to Revali. Much like... the rest of the Rito. The only reason he’s the one who’s helping you fight medoh, and not say, another guard, or Harth? He’s Harth’s friend and harth was injured. He has no personal connection to Revali. He can’t even use revali’s weapon, it’s too heavy and hard to use while flying and Revali was the only Rito strong enough. So Revali really doesn’t have a successor. TL;DR- Revali is the loneliest of the champions. A lot is purposely masked by his cocky demeanor. He is left alone with only medoh as a companion, quite likely bonding with and projecting a personality on medoh. He has no successor. So should fans judge him for being rude and arrogant? Or should people look deeper and see all this first?

Why do people keep saying this? He wasn't a really "deep" and tragic character whatsoever. 🤔😕 He was just "there" and didn't do much to become memorable and have ANY kind of importance to the events happening in the game. Compare him to Midna from Twilight Princess and he clearly comes out as a complete nobody in the world of Zelda.
@Kyousuku4 жыл бұрын
@@javiervasquez8995 that's because you didn't interpret nor give his doings any thought. You probably just saw him that way cuz there wasn't much of a backstory shown for him unlike the other champions. Sure he doesn't add much to the storg of botw other than being that bird which rides a bigger bird, but some pple interpreted the things he said, could relate to him or whatever that made them their favourite. After all it's a matter of taste, experiences and the way you see it
@javiervasquez89954 жыл бұрын
@@Kyousuku Didn't interpret His "doings"?? 😐 Such as? Does he accomplishes ANYTHING in the "story" of Breath of the Wild? Does he move the plot forward through his many annoying and meaningless dialogues? Does he do *ANYTHING AT ALL?* 😒 Listen I get that in the case of the 4 Champions Nintendo *TRIED* to make them into somewhat "memorable" characters by writing each one with a specific personality and a "theme" that would differentiate one Champion from the other. 🤔 That in an of itself sounds like an interesting and creative concept to make the cast of Breath of the Wild more unique to previous characters in the franchise and i applaud Nintendo for *trying* to do something never done before in the series. The PROBLEM with this "Champions" is the fact that they don't truly and really have ANY real role or relevance to the "plot" of Breath of the Wild whatsoever. Regardless of there being 4 Champions in the game their existence is completely inconsequential to Link's journey to defeat "Calamity Ganon" with the Master Sword and Zelda's strugle to awaken her Sealing Powers. This characters were written with so little depth and detail that it makes them look as if they were made just for the sake of having more "main" characters in the game. 😕 To put it bluntly their very inclusion is *narratively irrelevant* to Ganondorf's defeat. If we were to remove this characters from the game altogether and just had the game revolve around Link and Zelda preparing themselves for Calamity's resurrecction the "story" would have had the exact SAME impact and effect regardless of their exclusion. Because they were never really important in the narrative "We" as the players were never able to form any kind of connection that would make us relate with and "root" for them in any way. What's the point of having a DEAD character if he or she can't affect the story in any sort of way?? 🙁 WHY SHOULD WE CARE for a bird guy that constantly acts annoyingly prideful while continiously mocking and ridiculing the main protagonist?? 😑 In the very brief flashbacks cutscenes that we get to see ALL we're ever shown are random moments where the "Champions" get to have random lines with Link and Zelda while also getting the chance to "show off" their special powers. I've watched all of the "memories" in BotW desperately trying to understand the characters of the Champions, analyzing their personalities and just trying to figure out what exactly was Nintendo's goal by including them in the game and I've literally came to the conclusion that their inclusion in the game served no purpose other than to be *one dimensional, superficial and ridiculosly cartoonish SPACE FILLERS.* *"You probably just saw him that way cuz there wasn't much of a backstory shown for him unlike the other champions".* There was no backstory for ALL 4 Champions. We BARELY see this characters do ANYTHING at all so how do you expect the player to learn anything about them? 😐 By talking to people that knew them? Oh sure alright let's talk to them but you see in the end we wouldn't be actually getting to *know* this people who barely did anything of importance in the game. Instead we would be simply TOLD a story about a dead person that once did "something" with you a 100 years ago from the point of view of SOMEONE ELSE. All through reading texts on the screen rather than through VISUAL means. Might as well read a friggin book about the Calamity than play the game. 😣 How can someone be able to "interpret" such a shallow and *superficial* character like Revali is beyond my Human capabilities of understanding. 🤔😖 JUST like the other 3 Champions "Birdman" was added into the game simply because Nintendo NEEDED to fill in the rather small cast of characters. I REALLY don't want to sound condescending or cruel for i'm not that kind of person and i also really hate criticizying people but the real truth about Breath of the Wild is that it's main focus and "heart" is found only within it's Open World exploration and gameplay and not it's failed attempt at "story" with all it's confusing, disjointed, random and completely irrelevant cinematic flashback cutscenes that show "Days in the life of a Champion" starring Falco Lombardi's evil twin 😈 and 3 other non memorable, generic, unappealing and non engaging "people". 😧 It would seem that you and other new Zelda players seem to have terrible taste when it comes to finding and liking a good character. 😕 If you are capable of relating to characters that you could find in a kid's book for 5 year olds then I assume you guys must all either be a bunch of pre-teens who think they're edgy for liking a Zelda character or you just have really low self-steem and thus can easily relate to basically ANY LEVEL of bad character-writing that involves even the slightest and smallest attempt at emotional relatability. 😯 I must admit i do pity young gamers like you that fall for the cheepiest attempts at narrative driven videogames made by companies like Nintendo. 😔 I really hope that someday you and many others will learn to deepen your understanding of fictional characters and realize what it is that makes them well written and *memorable.* To conclude Breath of the Wild is a GREAT GAME yet the "story" and the 4 Champions SUCKED. They were terribly written and added NOTHING to the experience of exploration in the new Hyrule of Breath of the Wild. Hopefully Nintendo will go back to writing good narratives like the ones from previous games. If BotW 2 does get to have a good story like Twilight Princess's then i'll be willing to forgive BotW 1's mediocre attempt at storytelling. 👍😏

Funny, Link had to prove his worth before he was rightfully acknowledged by the champions and Zelda. He saves Zelda after she questions his proficiency with the Master Sword. against the Yiga, his time and ease in which he deals with them unharmed is noted. Later against Bokoblins and a Lynel, he gets a scratch but deals with them easily otherwise. He impresses Urbosa with his quick arrival, despite Zelda not being in mortal danger. "You sure got here fast. As expected of the princess' own appointed knight." Unlike Skyward Sword, he already learned the importance of time and is a far cry from the dreamy, carefree Link from that game, whom needed a scathing wake up call to do a lot better in that regard before he learned the lesson. With Daruk and Mipha, they already knew what he was capable of, if a bit reckless. Daruk didn't really need any further proof; he knew if Link was the chosen one for the Master Sword, he had no doubts why. Revali didn't get see Link in action until he defeats Windblight. Even then he's very reluctant in admitting Link was indeed worthy of bringing down Ganon.

In a way, Revali really simply wanted to be acknowledged by someone he deemed a worthy rival, and was upset that he didn’t seem to even be given the time of day. Notice all of the moments where he is acting a jerk on purpose, almost as if testing Link’s mettle. It must have been incredibly frustrating to not even be able to get him to respond, and even if it wasn’t personal, Revali sure seemed to take it that way, even go out of his way to convince himself that Link couldn’t possibly be all that great. Imagine growing up being the best of your generation, perhaps even in the history of your people, only to be recruited as an “assistant” in something as important as protecting the entire kingdom. I think we would all feel shafted, even if we wouldn’t act out in the same way.

@@NoahHalfSquid "The localization process for a lot of games creates moments and situations in games where the outcome or dialogue for some characters are *different* for different regions. A perfect example of this is the ending involving Ganon in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in North America and the ending that Japanese gamers received. Over on the Legends of Localization website, translator Clyde Mandelin was asked about the very *different ending dialogue* that takes place in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Obviously, if you haven't played the game and you have intentions on playing the game, it's probably wise not to read further because there are some spoilers ahead. In the English version during the final form that Calamity Ganon takes on, the text says "He has given up on reincarnation and assumed his pure, enraged form". Gamers noticed that in the Japanese version the text is different, where it states that *"This form was born from his obsessive refusal to give up on revival...".* It's quite obvious that in one version of Breath of the Wild it's saying that Ganon won't be reincarnating in order to come back and fight again; he's putting all of his rage into one final form to fight Link and Zelda in that final showdown. In the Japanese version Ganon basically is in a position where his enraged form of Calamity comes from his obsession with *refusing to give up on reviving,* forcing him to fight with everything he has to destroy Link and Zelda and that he will *continue to refuse to give up.* The change in localization and dialogue changes the overall scope of Ganon's goal during the final fight. In one instance it's saying that Ganon has exhausted all of his power in order to maintain an enraged form, while in the other it's saying that *he will continue to find ways to come back.* In context, and in relation to the game's ending, in the English version it's interesting because Zelda notes that Ganon is gone "for now", giving the impression that he may *return at some point in the future* (trailer for Breath of the Wild 2 anyone?). In the Japanese version it's interesting because it has a more definitive bit of dialogue from Zelda about the threat of *Calamity Ganon* (not Ganondorf) being gone". www.cinemablend.com/games/1691429/zelda-breath-of-the-wilds-ending-is-different-in-japanese-heres-what-changes

At least I'm glad to know that in one universe, he's not only alive but loved by Teba and Tureli in another one too.

You are definitely not the only one. You know Botw is my first the zelda game, when I go to see Impa as told, all the terms she said like "divine beast" or "mipha of the zora" didn't mean much to me apart from "the main mission of the game", so I just went on with my business and slowly proceeding to each Divine beasts when I feel ready, just l would with any open world game. But when I finally see Revali's spirit and this theme hits, I felt like crying and liked Revali instantly.

Revali’s whole deal now is extremely depressing to me especially with Tears of the Kingdom. Revali worked his ass off for his skills that got him his position and yet it really didn’t matter at all. He died due to the poor night vision his species has, likely lived as an orphan and had zero ties to any bloodline, and will eventually be forgotten over time. He’s an anomaly of a champion that reached close to Link’s skill and all to be forgotten and upstaged by a Sage’s bloodline. Even by Tears of the Kingdom it seems that a lot of people already forgot about him and it’s just extremely sad to see.

At least we can know that Teba and Tureli remember him very deeply as his fans. That's a thing that I LOVED so much from Age of Calamity, specially on the DLCs. You can see another face of Revali, one that show that he's very kind with kids. He creates a link with Tureli and his father but specially with the little one and you can see that more than ever, with that scene of they sleeping on the training zone with Tureli sleeping on Revali's lap and how Revali checks on him to be warm at that moment, making Teba to smile and laugh. Is sad that besides that part of the town with the name of Revali... he just dissapeared from everything. And nobody besides Teba and Tureli gonna know how amazing and kind he was actually.

@@javiervasquez8995 How? Its easy for people to connect with characters like these. Characters that have been training hard their whole life, constantly praised for their unique ability, only to be thrown into the shadow of someone else. His envy of Link is completely understandable, and it shows in the DLC, when Revali pushes himself as hard as physically possible, desperate to get some sort of attention again. To feel like he's needed.

@@alfie5289 He BARELY does ANYTHING in the "main story" of Breath of the Wild. 😒 He LACKS ANY level of *character development* and the "memories" only do so much as to show him and the other "Champions" "doing things" that in the end *DO NOT AMOUNT TO ANYTHING.* 😐 Please compare Revali to previous Zelda characters such as Tetra, Midna, Illia, Colin, Groose and also PREVIOUS incarnations of princess Zelda herself. Compared to them he is a MEDIOCRE CHARACTER. 😒😧 Just IMAGINE how DEEP the narrative of Breath of the Wild could have been had it focused it's story in the PRESENT rather than in the Past. 😑 Having to find "memories" in order to see RANDOM PEOPLE "doing things" was a TERRIBLE IDEA given it's lack of *SUBSTANCE* with Nintendo really missing the opportunity of delivering what could have been a DEEPLY emotional narrative experience in the Open World the game offered. 😖 The 4 Champions were 100% *underused* and simply DIDN'T HAVE ANY level of depth or substance to make the player even CARE for them. 😬 I SO HOPE that BotW 2 will completely IGNORE the "4 Champions" from it's story 🙁 as they didn't bring ANY kind of narrative substance whatsoever and their presence was far more of a nuisance than any kind of help to Link's journey. 😣 SHOULD they appear they better just STAY AWAY from the MAIN story of the game or else it'll be a dissapointment all over again. 😔

Love me some Revali. He was my FAVORITE champion. Dude got to be a champion because he was THE BEST. He wasn't destined to be the best. He wasn't answering the call to arms like Mipha or Urbosa. He was just that good. There are people you meet in life who work their asses off and can be a bit arrogant but they earn it. Revali has the best back story, the best theme song, the coolest cut scene and the VERY BEST ability. After I accidently beat this game (wandered into the Sanctum then figured Ganon had to be harder than a white Lynel so I went for it and won) I restarted and basically went STRAIGHT to Rito Village. Then on to Zoras Domain to check out my future ex-husband. But Revali....I loved this guy.

Revali...was such a g o o d character. you hate him at first because he seems like such a douche, but then as you progress through medoh and fight windblight, as you hear his voice speaking to you in the distance, he seems to open up to you a bit more and more. during his cutscene, he’s clearly trying to deny it, but he’s somewhat learned to like you. after 100 years Revali’s not so bitter anymore toward the hero that is clearly hyrule’s only hope now, HIS only hope now. when you see him standing over medoh in the end cutscene.:.it feels like after so long, you’re saying goodbye to a friend.

For everyone’s sake.” And then you realize, no one in Rito village has any kind of familial relationship to him, whereas Urbosa and Riju, Daruk and Yunobo, and Mipha, King Dorephan, Muzu, and Sidon are there. And yet Revali has no one. No one who really remembered him. Not just as an exceptionally skilled archer, not just a symbol of pride, but closer than that.
