There was a guy around here that in the late 80's & early 90's had a 460 block bored over, don't remember the final displacement but it also had Boss 429 heads, but he had it in a '70 or '71 Torino. The 69-70 Mustang Mach1 has to be my favourite car from the 60’s. It has many styling cues taken from the incredible GT40’s that trounced the once unbeatable Ferrari’s at Le Mans. With the mighty Cobra Jet 428, it held its own cruising down the avenue on a Saturday night. Forget the fat, heavy Corvette, the Mustang was the real America’s Sports Car. Proven on the worlds most iconic race tracks.

@TBird1006363 жыл бұрын
I too remember the C&D article and the episode that aired on TNN after the magazine release. The Camaro was originally a 94 4th gen with a leftover modified ZL1 427 aluminum engine, but was cosmetically converted into a 98. The BOSS was a preproduction SN95 94 Mustang. They did a huge burnout with the BOSS, the spent rubber lit on fire and Coletti crouched down with his hand over the fire for a photo op. Coletti pointed out the Camaro wasn't the original ZL1, but a Donovan big block racing engine. When they started making drag passes the BOSS wasn't performing to it's potential, and the ZL1 was narrowly beating it. The Chevy team had found a spark plug indexing problem, so one of the plugs got hit and had its gap closed by the piston of its cylinder. So their faster time was according to Moss on 7 cylinders. After 2 more runs of the BOSS, although improved, wasn't beating the ZL1. The Ford team determined it wasn't making full power, and after removal of the left valve cover found one of the pushrods and a rocker arm obliterated. During this time Chevy went a few more times, on 8 cylinders it improved it's lead further, until the last run the rear end blew up on the starting line, the spider gears shattered. They changed the entire rear and and started making passes again. After a couple hours drive the Ford team came back with some new pushrods and rocker arms and repaired the BOSS' engine. The BOSS would obliterate the ZL1's best times and win the first contest. The next day they went to a road course and they were about even on lap times, until the BOSS' engine developed an oil pressure problem and ZL1 ended up winning, which resulted in a draw for the contest.
