One of the lead actresses who has had done a long, varied career is none other than Revathi ji. Being a tomboy who could pull off those subtle, feminine role so authentically is a big deal and not a joke. Revathi holds a long list of great performances during her career. Some of those in top of my head without searching the Internet are: Pudhumai Pen, Aanpavam, Manvasanai, Kilukkam, Vaidehi Kaathriunthaal, Mouna Ragam, Idayathamarai, Devasuram, Punnagai Mannan, Aragetra Velai, Thevar Magan to name a few. For me, more of her songs remind me of those days. Thank you BR! You're our next Randor Guy for documenting these legends and their lives. Indian or State Governments just ignore them till their demise in celebrating their success.

I feel FAR SAFER as a woman in Tamil Nadu than in Kerala. My friend and I used to hold hours-long conversations about the difference we found in Tamil and Malayali men that we encountered on the streets. While we were never harassed by the Tamil men, we were very often harassed on the streets by the Malayali men. Never could figure out why. Shows book-ish knowledge doesn't always translate to treating women right. And Mohanlal and Mammootty have been such disappointments in the way they've dealt with the WCC and this case. And the way they dealt with Thilakan earlier. As long as they and their gang mates are fine, to hell with the rest. And of course this comes from a die hard lover of Mohanlal films. Disappointing, opportunistic male (anti) 'heroes'!

So you are simply generalizing the fact that Other states especially Tamil Nadu is safer for woman than Kerala. And the reason you put is Dileep issue? Am I right?
@ghostneguz
@ghostneguz 2 жыл бұрын
And finally regarding WCC, tell me what other issue did they handle other than Dileep issue?? Does that mean there was no other issues associated with women? Why were they not vibrant when Alencier was accused and later confessed regarding his attitude towards women? It was told that when the victim approached WCC, they asked whether an apology will settle the issue? What act did they do regarding Sanusha's train incident? Finally, why did Vidhu Vincent quit WCC? Why were there was accusations against Geetu Mohandas by a female worker? What credibility does Rima Kallingal possess to hold that position when she and hubby was accused for fraud act by doing a show in name of CM fund?. This is a bigger issue and yet everyone is mum about it. Above all the founder member is still working with Big Ms and others. Why is she associating with them?
@ghostneguz
@ghostneguz 2 жыл бұрын
In short, you are discussing about matters projected by the media houses. If they want to play down an issue, it's not an issue and if they want to boost up an issue, it will be an issue. For general people, it's a media circus meant for entertainment. B Honest and tell me, how many in the society are actually concerned about the victim? If there are some, they will react the same way against much more brutal acts encountered by non celebrities. But NO, since the victim and accused is not a celebrity, it's not a news or worth discussion. This is the pathetic state of the society...not just Kerala but all over the world. Selective Sensationalizing. Above all, Be the Fan of the Actor...Not the Person. This is coming from a man who was never a fan of Dileep movies.

Also while speaking about Bharathan's movie with Mohanlal, Revathi mentioned Srividya's name & Bharathan's name however she dint mention Mohanlal's name, which clearly shows that she is still pissed of with Mohanlal & his stand in that shameful episode with the actress..

She is pissed because she got her ego hurt when mohanlal reffered 3 actresses as nadikal when a journalist asked him a question. Which is fine because journalist asked him whether actresses have given a petition or some sort and mohanlal answered yes 3 actresses have filed petition. Revathy got her ego hurt and addressed in a different press meet that he reffered her as actress. Thats the whole issue. Yes is very concerned that she is in a great meryl streep league and wants to be fully refered by name and not to be just addressed among the other two actress. She also disrespected mohanlal and refering as ayal/him in a low tone. This spoiled there relationship.

She is still pissed off with Mohanlal due to his stand in shameful episode that happened in Kerala with the actress.. There is no denying the fact that as AMMA President it was Mohanlal's responsibility along with other senior members of the industry to take a harsh stand, which he dint.. What's the point of having a president who doesnt have any courage to take difficult decisions & do the right thing.. We all know the influence, clout, control that the culprit had within Film Industry.. Not only did Mohanlal have courage to take any stand, he went on & invited culprit to his launch party of directional debut movie Barroz & is seen fraternizing, laughing, hugging the culprit.. Shame on him for not showing any compassion towards victim & taking the side of culprit.. Rarely do films done on shaping a women's career or a life of a Rebel woman . I think it's because Keralite society was a bit more progressive than Entire India atleast 20 years ahead . @@s9ka972 it just depends on whats one's definiton of progressive is by that standards hindi cinema way back in 1960s had films like khamoshi(waheeda rehman) kora kagaz, bandini(nutan),seher aur savera(nargis dutt) where women had more agency..of course films would speak of their time so sujata(nutan) in 1959 would talk of untouchability while tapasya(1976) starring rakhi dealt with subject of an older sister teaching her younger siblings...there are many examples replete of this in Hindi parallel cinema like smita patil's bhoomika,(not including chakra, mandee since by your definition that has women who has something to do with sexuality and its expression) which talks about a great Marathi actress who lives life on her own terms... you just have to look a little deeper ....not just in out and out women oriented film..a pooja(sri devi) from Lamhe(1991) is as much a strong women in wanting to love the suitor of her deceased mother who is much older..then another pooja(rakhi) from shakti who chooses between her dutiful husband(dilip kumar) and her criminal son(amitabh bachchan) ...watch some of gulzar's films from the 70s like namkeen, aandhi or basu bhattacharya's film . North india in comparison to the south has been more open,transparent and west ward leaning..the social movements like sati,widow remarriage started here much earlier than the south which still had transitions like breast tax ,channar lahla,vaikom satyagraha etc...also the movement of social reforms by narayan guru started much after 1880 in kerala whereas in rest of india it had begun earlier with raja ram mohan ray,ishwar chandra vidya sagar etc so the perception how south looks at its women and how rest of india sees it is a bit different..there is patriarchy on both sides -bollywood has casting couch whereas kerala has the case of actor dileep and i need not say more....so i rest my case...

its so sad to see malayalam actors talking more about their tamil work !!!! i do understand Rangan is a tamilian but the kind of roles she has done in Malayalam stands tall in front of her tamil , telugu roles !!!! these guys from other states have no idea abt malayalam industry..and our own mal actors dont take any effort to hail , encourage malayalam in these interviews specially due to the fact that mal films are way better films than tamil/telugu/kannada films..it has been like that since 80s...

Revathy Mam also has done only around 130 to 140 films over her 40 year career span so far when compared to other 80s stars who have done 500 or 700 films. This shows she believes in quality over quantity and very choosy with the scripts right from 1983. I think she is the only actress whose characters are remembered by name and recognized by all. Muthupechi, Sita, Divya, Malini, Nandini, Chitra,Maggie, Anitha, Panchavarnam, Thaiamma to Asha in Bhoothakalam to name a few. Great actress, filmmaker and an amazing human being. Keep rocking Mam!

BR your interviews are really classic no doubts on that at all. However I have a small suggestion, I know it’s challenging to ask blunt questions to senior actress, so instead of beating around the bush kindly rephrase your words which might help you a lot. P.S. I’m not an expert in this field nor am I any professional, it’s my humble observation.

One of the best actors. As she says, she was part of good scripts of 80s, early 90s and has that knack to choose the right ones. But versatility - I do not think so. Humour and character with negative shades have never been her forte.
