Revcon TrailBlazer 4x4 Motorhome

I bought one of these in 2000 for 45k, drove it from san diego through alaska up the al-can highway over, the dawson mountain range and to gates of the arctic national park. I dropped it into dry riverbeds at 80 mph, and tore through muddy ridges that jeeps were getting stuck in (16,000 lbs gets you to the dry dirt) and lived in a forest for three years in it. It's built like a brick, and unlike Tiogas the shelving is welded, it wont break off the wall when you do something... dynamic. nobody makes stuff like this anymore. I Still own it, still love it.

We have a HINO 4x4 truck camper hear in Western Australia, there is nothing better than finding your own private camp area, where other run of the mill motorhomes just can not get anywhere near you. True adventure & exploration in your own home, our expedition truck is the best thing we have ever bought.

This video illustrates how far the RV industry has strayed from their customers wants. I looked for years with no luck so I bought a used Itasca Cambria E450 with 10K miles and had it upgraded to full 4X4 w/6" lift. Once I ditched the factory air bags and had engineered 6" leaf springs made it became the ultimate machine (for me). HELLO RV MANUFACTURES ARE YOU LISTENING? nope. I probably have 4 times over invested than a Revcon, HELLO? And no, nowhere close to a half million dollar Earth Roamer.

Nope, the tag axle is not connected to the drive system at all. It is there to handle added weight.

+smiliessmilies sorry, but that is incorrect. the first number is the powered wheels, the second is the total wheels (at least in the military). this would be a 4x6

Carlos Vitela I just bought one that had been left for crack heads to vandalized. 3 windows busted out, both vent covers broken..Had been rained in for a year or two. You aren't going to believe this ---> The floor is NOT even soft, none of the cabinetry is damaged except for the Formica delaminating from the wood. The wood is NOT particle board. I am in the process of expoying it back down. These things are built f'ing tough. They are not like ANY RV I have ever seen in my life. I am totally shocked by how much quality was put into them. The only particle board in the vehicle is a built in map/magazine rack to the right when you enter the motorhome. It bubbled up like you would have expected the whole thing to have done. I found this one very cheap but the generator had been stolen along with the super charger (engine does not run -wires cut when stealing super charger), light bar, both remote spot lights, and both rear door panels. Also, the led gauge cluster for the holding tanks, and water tanks has been sabotaged. All of the carpet needs replacing along with much of the cushion upholstery. It needs a new convection oven however both a/c's work, the fridge is there but needs new parts that had been stolen, the holdings tanks work, and bathroom is in decent shape. No it bad for $2000.

the welded aircraft aluminum would be the expensive part, raw materials alone today would be over 30k, I got no idea how much it would be to get somebody to craft it. The reason Revcon did it was because in the 90's the aerospace industry in Orange County CA died, there were hundreds of aircraft designers, welders, fabricators, etc. all out of jobs, they went from building blackbird SR71s to building these (lol) These RVs started out at over 180k (would be around 250k+ now), they didnt sell, . factory went under, I got imine for 45k in 2,000. They do come up for sale now and then, I'd just keep an eye out.

***** F350 XLT 6.9L 420ci diesel it would be a lawn ornament if it was a 460 would never be able to gas it up i dont know how people tolerate 8-10 MPG with the 460s i took it to get some rust fixed like a month ago so its been repainted no it FORD DARK ROYAL BLUE (not as dark as midnight blue) and the inside was matched too and seats are now recovered in a darker blue that's vary close to the paint but a bit lighter also upgraded the front axle to a solid D60 instead of the TTB D50 BTW if you ever repaint yours price check the paint i got stung for $68 a pinte i also have an blue 82 F150 ranger with a 4.9 300-6 with perfect chrome and 215/70/15 firestone whitewalls for putting around town

***** the only drawback is topspeed the 6.9 will make just as much pulling power as a 7.5 but its slower than a 7.5 meaning they have the same pulling power but the 7.5 tops out at 6k rpm readline the 6.9 tops out at 3500 rpm so if you have a low geared 6.9 with a 3speed c6 or something you're cruising speed would be 60 mph at about 1700 rpm for best MPG 18-20 and for a 7.5 with a 3speed c6 would be about 75 MPH and get10-11 mpg you could slow down and save a bit but i live in Colorado now and the highway is 75 mph or people give you shit thankfully i have a T19 4 speed and i can cruise at 75 mph tho when im the only one on the road my Iowa kicks back in and i end up putting around at 55 mph until a guy passes me giving me the finger HA HA HA

***** the tragic thing is when you hauling your getting worse MPG than the 460 because you working the engine harder especially when you got an auto transmission i used to have a 1994 bronco 5.0 302 with e40d and 32gal tank got me 250 miles that was when gass was a staggering 4.50 per gallon also i hat problems keeping head gaskets in it blew then 3 times before i sold it he yanked the engine and dropped in a 7.5 bored&stroked out to a 551 and put it on 44s its one hell of a monster mudder now

I got 6-8 mpg in mine, and yeah driving it from sandiego to where the roads ended in AK and back was insanely expensive, you think gas is a lot here? it was 12.00 per gallon in Canada on the Al-Can HWY, and that was in 2002...

The problem with these is they get stuck in wet grass and gravel, the rear Axel is not powered and a lot of times the front axle can't pull all of that weight off the grass, gravel and mud. Buy this and you need a good towing insurance. It's a beautiful rig, just poorly designed when it comes to the drivetrain. To fix it you need a second transfercase, another rear axle and driveline, and a good fabrication company.

I have a 1974 23ft gmc motorhome have a e350 4x4 rolling frame putting on frame motor 12 value cummins 6 speed allison transmission but is there any one to talk about the rear suspension 5th and sixth wheel

I have to admit, if I bought it I would have to rebuild it, inside and out. It's a good platform but the 7.5L would get swapped out for a built 7.3L Diesel. Most if not all the water would be taken out. Insulation would be added everywhere and seals would be over done. Then the interior would get a full makeover...

yes diesel would be better, its damn expensive to run, gas tanks are enormous as well, might as well add solar pannels, lithium bats, and get rid of the propane while your at it. and yes.. the insulation sucks. in AK I had lots of condensation, windows leaked like mad, all the tanks froze and cracked, I had icecycles coming off the roof in my shower...

+Ninja 87 I agree simon lagree I don't think it was even state of the art even when it was new. They used commonly available feature that had already been on motors homes for years.The only unusual thing about it was it was built on a ford 4x4 chassis with a tag axle added on. When you think about it all the parts used to do this had already been on pickup trucks since the early 60's. I will agree it was a somewhat novel way to use them but nothing on this motor home was state of the art.

Simon Lagree BETTER than "state of the art".! Go and throw your money away on the NEW "state of the art" expedition vehicle today. They are electronic nightmares waiting to happen. Pieces of crap. Go to KZbin and checkout the couple that took the ford RV built by that group out of Colorado. They had nothing but problems with the electronic BS. They don't even come with a generator! They have a battery bank that runs the AC for 8 hours. In an emergency you have no generator power to recharge batteries or operate tools etc... The modern versions of the Revcon are CRAP. The only thing they did right was put them on a 450/ 550 chassis.

It is a 4 wheel drive. One of the axels is a drag axle.

They tried putting power to the back wheels using big rubber bands, it worked, only problem was with so much power and all the weight on the rear 4 wheels, it would not turn... front wheels made little ditches when you turned em...

Daveinet The one I just bought had been rained in for a year or two.'The only thing that happened was the Formica delaminated from the cabinet wood-' which is in PERFECT shape. I'm in the process of epoxying back down. FYI-all three of the big RV windows on the passenger had been broken out along with both vent covers. IT RAINED in for over a year! In fact the lower kitchen cabinets directly in the path of the rain did not delaminate. These things were built with unbelievable quality and durability. NOT like ANY RV that I have EVER seen.
