I can’t wait to get back in the Big Rig.. I’m applying to GP transco in 3 weeks when I finally get my CDL once again. I foolishly let it go because I didn’t get my medical card when I stopped driving in 2021, so now I’m back doing it all over again. I live 20 minutes from the headquarters in Joliet and worked for JB Hunt, right down the street all of 2020. I have a good feeling about these guys..

#ridingwithjay now that you moved on from CFI, would you still recommend it as a first job for a recent grad? I've been prehired with them and I've been watching your videos from the beginning. Doesn't seem like you left on bad terms and just wanted your advice on them as a starter company as of today. My choices are them or Grand Island Express. I want to do dry van and all 48 states. Grand Island is reefer and only cover 38 but they pay more. I'm in it for the experience and to travel. Just wanted your advice on it. Keep up the good work.

If I’m driving OTR all 48 I’d want to make absolutely sure my carrier equips my tractor with an Auxiliary Power Unit (APU).

@@NightowlTrucking exactly! The recruiter I spoke with said the trucks come with APUs. I had to make sure he wasn't just saying it to get me in the door so I called back twice to get different recruiters to see if they all said the same thing. My only problem with them is greyhound and the pay is lower than most. I can get pass both just cuz I'm in it for other reasons. Pay isn't toooo bad but it is low to start

@@Anthakee - Billy Raines is another KZbinr who drove for CFI but he's since moved on like Jay did. Where are you located? I'm in the Chicago area and I gathered a decent list earlier this year of companies that hire new CDL grads. Some of the better ones were: Paper Transport Nussbaum Tyson Foods Roehl jbhunt Pride Of course, always do your research which it seems like you do. And of course there's all the mega-carriers: 🤢

Lol. Drove for gp two yrs. I've got 30 yrs experience and ya. Gp is a total mess. Where I'm at now I get total respect and total control of where I go and always have a load on me long b4 I get to any reciever plus I get over 3000 miles a wk. I like gp but gp transco is a joke.

Will not mention where I'm at now but will tell you I get 3000 miles away wk plus if I want. Also no long delays in a dock and no waiting for a load ever and every load is a broker load so ya. I'm good. Gp is truly hosing every driver thay have just to line there own pockets. Think about that. Been driving many, many yrs and have seen it all so ya I do know when a carrier is hosing there drivers.
