A note about Lemkill and asking you to hurt his daughters: I've heard it explained that if you show violence in front of a character (such as killing someone in sight of Lemkill), they have a small chance to request you hurt/kill someone they dislike. So basically, it's a small chance for anyone to offer money for that service, and he simply is scripted to dislike his children. Nothing special about that interaction being tied to Rorikstead.

So, the ancient Nords worshipped Dragons, and there is a shrine to Akatosh just north of Rorikstead up on a ridge that overlooks the town. It is also east of Lund's Hut. at this shrine you will find Dragon scales as an offering. Something that should not be, given that dragons are just returning. This could be connected to the girl's dream of Paarthurnax. Maybe something of the old Dragon cult (or their practices) survived?

Something that caught my attention was when Camel was reading about the book of the daedra, some of them actually described very specific personalities within Rorikstead. Hermaeus Mora: Knowledge of fate, past/present, and treasures knowledge. Sounds like Sissel, who sees visions of a friendly dragon. Mehrunes Dagon: Change, Revolution, Energy, Ambition. Sounds like Erik, who wants to break out and demands he be set free and wander the world. Namira: Spiders, Insects, and other creatures that are repulsive to man. Lund kept skeevers as pets, a lot of them. No one else does this. Also, Namira is all about the ancient darkness and is the spirit daedra, which clipping out of Lund's hut puts you in this strange ethereal realm not like other areas in the game, except some areas of Blackreach (there are small patches of faint green tint.) I would throw a wild theory out there that it isn't necessarily the fertile women offered up, but the children of the fertile women, and the women are killed in the process as the children become champions for the daedric princes. Oooor.... Jouane _IS_ Clacivus Vile/Mephala, just fucking with everyone.

I like the idea that Jouane genuinely wants to help out Sissel with helpful spells and the Dragonborn is plastered against the window screaming about sacrificing women. Also, if that's the truth, bet that Sissel is staring at Britte waiting for the day she grows up and gets pregnant. 'Finally, hey Britte, remember how you used to say I smell like a pig?'

Personally I think the issue with the age of Rorikstead can be explained rather easily. Whenever you hear them talk about the village from three thousand years ago they say Ol' Rorikstead, not just Rorikstead. They are two different towns and the first one is long gone by now. The reason the owner makes it a point to say this town was named after him was cause people would think he just copied the name from a famous long gone town and he wants to be clear why it has the same name. Just my theory though.

Clavicus Vile's deals usually are double sided with a tragic undertaking by the victim such as Sebastian Lort's slaying of his lycanthropic daughter, or cause and effect such as with his vampire underlings becoming immediately cursed by the pact they made with him. I think that the deal made with him in the case of Rorikstead was not a sacrificial pact, but a cause and effect pact. Its not that Jouane sacrificed these women, or that Reldith is an accomplice. Rather, when these women gave birth, Vile took them, and Jouane couldn't stop them. Reldith wasn't an accomplice to a sacrifice, but rather the midwife during delivery that witnessed the Daedric influence take its due from the twisted pact.

My first reaction to the water breathing spell instead of the fire spell is that in medieval times Witches would be tried by weighting them or throw them in water. If they would float they would be burned at the stake or maybe in this case be sacrificed. If they would sink they would drown instead. A water breathing spell would certainly be able to save her life one day as the townsfolk are suspicious of magic and mages and would maybe not tolerate a young spellcaster within their mids. Jouanne noticed her talent for spellcasting and wanted to protect her instead. What is maybe suspicious is that an Altmer living far away from summerset and is only interesting in farming. I wonder what her backstory is. To bad this little town was probs one of those areas that got cut and the quest was never written.
@David_Alvarez77 Жыл бұрын
That is an interesting thought about the breathing spell. Makes a fair bit of sense. As far as the Altmer is concerned, I think their society is very much caste and hierarchy, and so there are low caste altmer who may indeed be farmers. And if she dislikes the Thalmor or the whole Aldmeri dominion stuff, she'd best be far away from the homeland until things change. But I agree, she is suspicious.

In about my second *serious* playthrough of Skyrim, I did a bit of “sleuthing” and I figured the reason their soil’s so great might be because they were sacrificing all the women in town in order to keep their farmland so fertile, explaining why the only girls in Rorikstead, are just children.🧐😔 And based on how she was treated by her family, they might’ve had plans to have Sissel sacrificed next.😒 Sooooo I sniped her dad from the hillside while he was farming, Aaaand immediately adopted Sissel.☺️ Also her bully of a sister got sent to the orphanage. So they were both spared from the potential fate of sacrificial doom.👍🏻

Just gonna quicly touch on the town name. Seeing as Roriksstead simply means Roriks farm, there very likely could've been other places with the same name throughout Skyrims history. A small village might dissappear from the map in the span of 4000 years. Or it might just have been a single farm owned by someone named Rorik. Anyway, I've heard speculations of this being an abandoned quest line, which would explain why there's so much going on.
@llamaloaf81346 жыл бұрын
I think it's always the same village. The book of Jarl Gjalund describes Rorikstead as "A Small Farmstead in the Western Plains." So it's probably the same village. Whoever wrote the lines of rorik probably just had no idea about the history of rorikstead. A simple developer oversight. And i strongly believe that Rorikstead is just full of unfinished questlines. The extremely fertile soil, with deadric implications The guy with the non-existant basement, that holds a mysterious chest The gifted girl, that dreams about paarthurnax The unused exterior of the dead guys house Sounds to me like bethesda planned a bunch of quests but scrapped them later in development.
@benthomason33076 жыл бұрын
they're not bitches, they just had to get the game out by a certain date; this happens all the time in the game industry. in fact this wouldn't even be the only example of this; the devs have confirmed that the same thing is going on with those bugs in jars: there was a quest planned, but they had to cut it for time constraints.
@Human_G7 жыл бұрын
I feel like Rorikstead was meant to have a quest, but they scrapped it. They must have been too far along in the creation of the town/game to redo things, so they left it just to be a mystery (perhaps). I get the feeling it was supposed to be an Andale (small town from Fallout 3) kind of quest, with the sort of "higher powers at work" feeling of Tranquility Lane (a town from Fallout 3. For Andale was suspiciously well-off, despite being in the middle of nowhere with no crops, et cetera, and the player finds out that they are cannibals (they would "sacrifice people" or travelers for the betterment of their town). Whereas Tranquility Lane is a VR simulation in which all of the people inside do no realize that it is not reality, except for one person. This person, Professor Braun, uses them as his play-things (or in other words: a single person who is pulling the stings behind everyone's back). Yes the stories are a bit different, but Rorikstead's story appears to mirror that of previous Bethesda stories (at least in atmosphere), in the past. So yes, I do thing this was going to be a quest, or have some significance.

I know I'm very, very late, but I have some insights that may help explain the myths about beating up and killing Sissel and Britte: If I remember correctly, very character in Skyrim has either a positive, negative, or neutral disposition towards each other's in the game's files. Most people are neutral to one another, but if a character has a positive or negative disposition towards another character, there can be some interesting interaction that happen. Lemkil has a negative disposition towards Sissel and Britte, and Sissel and Britte have a negative disposition towards each other in the game's files. This means that, if you attack or kill one of them, there is a small random chance that they will thank you and reward you with gold for doing so. It's just a part of the game's natural code, the developers just didn't turn if off for this family. This explains why you couldn't get it to trigger- it's a very small, random chance to occur. It's not a myth, it's real, but I don't think it has any lore implications.

Not Meridia. Mephala. He actually skipped Meridia in the book. She's also obviously unrelated as her whole purpose is to purge the undead.
@fwoqma7 жыл бұрын
+Camelworks your grammar is lacking. "Meridia, whose sphere is obscured to mortals; who is associated with the energies of living things." a semicolon denotes a shift between two related ideas. the first is "Meridia, whose sphere is obscured to mortals;" and the second is "who is associated with the energies of living things." the only thing that can link these two, grammatically, is Meridia. so the 'who' in question is Meridia, and not 'mortals'. the correct interpretation of this sentence is that Meridia's sphere is obscured to mortals, and that Meridia is associated with the energies of living things. i do appreciate your work on this, as it's very in-depth, but you're wrong here.
@jasonfenderson53727 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Meridia hates necromancers because, in her eyes, they taint living energies and upset the natural order of life and death. Skyrim has a whole quest where you have to clear Meridia's temple of undead. Like sour grapes said, the semicolon makes all the difference.

So while I was watching I came to a realization that, while may seem far-fetched, also would play nicely into the narrative of this theory. Coming to this conclusion actually gave me chills, maybe also due to the cool AF delivery by the author and the overall tone of the video. So, now here's my theory bit: The little girl who saw the Gray Dragon in her dream is obviously a natural-born sorceress - it has been pointed out in the clip. The town's healer, the one who sacrifices all these women, knows that when she comes of age he will need to sacrifice her as well. But noticing the magical talent and, perhaps, even the prophetic-like dreams which she may have told him about, he grew attached to the girl, even teaching her magic. So far it's all has been in the video. Now, one needs to ask why did he suggest she would learn Water Breating spell out of all the spells he knows. Is it somehow important, given that he seems concerned for her and wants to take care of her despite the fact that he will need to sacrifice the girl in the future? No, he actually wants to save her, and waterbreating is the spel that willl provide that. I think that the sacrifices must have been done by drowning. Even though we see one grave of the poisoned man's wife, we don't see ANY other graves in Rorikstead. What do you all think of my speculation?

I have a theory about this gray friendly old dragon Sissel talks about. What if Peryite was this dragon? Afterall, he is depicted as a Dragon on his shrine next to Silverfish River in Cyrodiil, so that might be a possibility. Another thing that could explain Periyte's presence near Rorikstead is Lund's Hut: a book in ESO, "Kyne's Challenge: A Hunter's Companion", mentions that Kyne gives the souls of skeevers to Periyte, and what is Lund's Hut filled with? Skeevers. So maybe Juanne isn't the only Daedra worshipper in/near Rorikstead.
@Janoha175 жыл бұрын
@CatholicPrincess15 Daedric Princes are masters of acting. However, when depicted in color, Peryite is usually green, not gray, and when the Dragonborn interacts with him, he appears as some spectral Skeevers.

Lund's hut does have a book on daedra! Tcl your character after entering the interior, turn right and clip through the wall, the book "varieties of daedra" should be close by suspended in the air. You may have to look closely because when I first checked out the strange world I used free camera and the book kept falling into the void but transporting back to its position and repeating, tcl will freeze all movement so it could be far below depending on when you used tcl. The plot thickens!

So much lore & contradictions can be accredited to this fact, if it were a book series, the lore might be more solid, though we wouldn't get to be detectives & explore the world. But many things are just a dev being funny, putting in a reference, forgetting something else, or not knowing what other devs are slipping in. As much as I love lore, I have to question most of it because the devs may have obscured or cut many facets of the story out for time or space.

I always think Sissel might be a Seer or a potential future Greybeard. Maybe all the Greybeards have this Vision of Parthurnax and leave their home after a call to find High Hrothgar. If so she may be the first Female Greybeard. It'd make sense for a quest in which Sissel hears the call and you are tasked to take her there to train. Also this whole Cut Questlines Idea may be the original Clavicus the Vile Quest, which would make sense as I always felt the Clavicus and Barbas quest was off when it came to the Vampire Cave, perhaps the Cave was much closer to Rorikstead instead of Falkreath and that the statue was a sacrificial alter.

Traditions. Nords are keen on their ancestors. Even if the chain had broken in between, it's likely that specific names have returned over generations. Even today children may be named after their grand- or grand-grandparents. Another way is how Germanic cultures did it: Children were named after their parents by double names, e.g. Herbert+Mechthild=Mechther, Mechtbert, Herhild, Hildbert, etc. If now a Mechtbert marries a Brunhild their daughter could be called Mechthild, again.

I’m from Ireland and there is a, stupid and weird, tradition here where people will name their children after themselves. Like if the father was called William they’ll call their son William and so on, so I agree with this. Not to mention it would make sense especially if they were reusing the name for their family farm/land, which is kind of important in Whiterun hold and makes them money.

Do Lund and Lokir look similar to anyone else, or is it just me? It might have been nice to see a Black soul Gem somewhere in the village to confirm this theory, unless the sacrifice's soul goes directly to Clavicus. The way Clavicus works, I don't think anyone's actually being sacrificed. Don't mistake me, the deal Camel described is what's happening, but Sissel and her sister's mom died in childbirth. We don't know how Erik's mom died, but it doesn't sound like it was violent; he's not traumatized or chomping at the bit for revenge on whomever murdered her. (Jason Marsden is an exceptional voice actor; he'd have clued the audience in if that were the case). I think the deaths of fertile women are "natural", or seemingly so. There's no ritual sacrifice, no trapping of souls, no secret altar to Clavicus Vile. The women just die, mysteriously, randomly, as part of the pact. Their souls go to Vile, and the soil remains nourished. Jouane may not even have been aware of what he was offering when he made the deal -- most of Clavicus' business partners aren't. This isn't an attempt to excuse him, mind, as he clearly knows about it NOW. But the Daedric Princes are crafty SOBs, and Clavicus is one of the craftiest.
