What a great explanation of how to go after basically any mature class buck. I like his approach and how this guy thinks!

great info again! I got 2 questions for you. 1. Isn't the stand location between bed and food the same spot for him going to eat and him coming back to bed? It sounded like they were different in the video but I don't know how I would differentiate them. #2 what are your thoughts on the vitalize seed system? I like that it promotes soil and requireds minimum equippment. My food plots are at a point where they need to be rotated as a 3rd year brassica plot turned up pretty weak compared to 1st two years even though inputs were the same. If that system works than there is no rotation needed.

Although deer travel from bedding to food right before dark, once it gets dark they wander around the other 90% of their range that they don't visit in the daylight. This travel can be very random so predicting exactly where a deer is coming from when it gets light out can be difficult. If you have a thick band of cover surrounded by open ground that leads to that bedding area, that's a good area to set up in the morning. Brassicas do need to be rotated every 2 years at most, I rotate them every year. To do this, I plant half of each plot in brassicas and the other half in peas/beans/oats and then switch sides each year. This puts much more diversity in the plot and keeps it attractive at any time of the year.

I heard from another video that a single buck will have +100 bedding areas. Lol good luck I’m after a buck and have only found 2 beds only 98 more to go !
@HobbyHarvest Жыл бұрын
Yeah, if you look at the collar tracking data the universities do they can have even 1000+ beds but they're gathered into a few clusters if that makes sense. It's worth looking up.
@wcb589011 ай бұрын
They don't have 100+ bedding areas....beds yes. But they will bed in the same areas in general.

What about figuring out a buck if u can't afford trail cameras ?? There's alot of hunters like myself that are struggling just to get bills paid in today's economy, I want to see a video on how to figure it out without trail cameras now that would b useful

In my recent video, I talk about strategies to finding bucks as they transition into their fall habitat. Cell cams just help us keep pressure off an area which increases our odds of seeing deer there. It can still be done without them. This time of year you're primarily looking for fresh rubs since the bucks have only been hard horned for about a month. If you find clusters of rubs, not just a random one by itself, you've found a place where bucks are bedding or feeding. The habitat of that area should tell you which one it is. Just be mindful that natural food sources can change quickly and often which will make him relate to a different one and may use a different bedding area to access it as well.

Be aggressive early in season, if you have to Bump him to find his Bedroom, do it, find his Bedding area, trails in & out plan your sneaky access for the right wind, where's he likely feeding? where's the Doe beds in relation to his trails, Close to his Beds, just off wind of his trails down wind of the Doe Beds, I like crazy weather in early season, A good evening storm might have him bedded till late & late coming back, after daylight in the morning.

@@Chad_Rusher no problem, The only thing trail cameras does for me, is refine my searches, my locating & setting up on Mature Bucks is done in July & August. In September I'm patterning targets, & after Wisconsin opens maybe attempting an early hit on a big one if I think the weather is dealing me the right cards. Even on public there's really Big mature Bucks in Wisconsin, but not every where & not every year.

I’m a little late to this conversation but I’ll put in my situation. I have a small parcel. Under 20 acres. Surrounded by big ag and pasture land. Most pictures I get of bucks are between midnight and 4am. I have known bedding area in the back corner of my property. The pictures tell me that they’re leaving before legal shooting time and moving to the big sg. Experience tells me they’re staying on that 250 acre parcel most of the day. May get a picture around 8:30 pm but 0 during daylight. I put in an acre food plot this year and it’s not drawing them in either early morning or late evening. What’s a man to do?
@wcb589011 ай бұрын
Create more bedding. The deer are not hanging out in daylight on "big ag" like you think. If they are hanging out in those areas during the day...those are their bedding areas not your "known bedding area" Deer do bed down at night...so your property is a destination bedding not a security bedding for daytime. You need to provide something that is not available on the surrounding properties. Maybe put a waterhole in. A 1acre food plot is not a draw in big ag where food is plentiful. Unless you can hunt late season when everything else is harvested and you can provide good high quality food then. Think standing beans or corn. In that case you will need more than an acre.
@ryanwalters69411 ай бұрын
@@wcb5890 I can’t go any bigger than an acre without clearing out the wooded area behind my house. Obviously the big ag has wooded pockets in it and all around it. They go to the food and have enough cover to hang out all day without and worries. I’ve come to the realization that the deer just aren’t using my property during the day and I can’t compete with the ag field. The best I could hope for is for them to hit my food plot on their way to the overnight bedding that’s on me

I'm having problems getting Bucks to show up during the daylight where I hunt. I have 8-10 different bucks on my cameras but it's always nighttime when they show up. I'm trying to explore now and figure out where they are coming from and where they are going. I've had one 12 point buck I've been after for 3 years and he's only going through the area at night. Nobody can seem to find him.
@shaneiveson517 Жыл бұрын
Sounds like to much day time pressure so they learned to travel around the area at night
@davidgrant2772 Жыл бұрын
@shaneiveson517 maybe because they showed up during the daytime before opening day last year, then went all nocturnal. Though it was way too warm every day. We had 60s and 70s every day pretty much all season. I'm not sure if maybe the warm Temps had something to do with it or not.

@davidgrant2772 don't be stupid. The bucks are on someone elses property during the daylight hours. After dark they are on your property for whatever reason. It's been proven already that there are no nocturnal bucks.

Nocturnal bucks don’t exist. These are browsing animals. They have to browse for food every few hours. If your call a buck nocturnal, you need to more your cameras, he is somewhere moving in daylight.
