In case anyone cares, there is an extremely small, but non-zero chance that the test couldn't differentiate between the boyfriend and his (non-twin) brother as fathers of the child...I mean like, 1 in 1,000,000,000 or something like that. Modern DNA testing uses a comparison of specific gene locations in our genome selected specifically because they have multiple variants called _alleles._ I forget how many of these locations they look at (I think it's around 20), but because each brother has inherited a different half of their genes from each parent, while some of those alleles would be common between them, at least a few would differ. And depending on which alleles are present at those locations in the child's DNA, it is trivial to determine which brother fathered the child. To take an example - if brother A has one copy of allele *c* from his mother and a copy of allele *c* from his father, then he can _only_ pass on a *c* to the child at that site in the genome, while if brother B has one copy of allele *c* from his mother and a copy of allele *C* from his father (the father would have to be a *C* and a *c* at this site for this to be possible...luck of the draw gave one brother a *c* and the other a *C* ), he could pass on either *c* or *C.* So if the child has two *C* alleles at that site, *the child cannot belong to brother A* - one *C* came from the mother, the other came from someone NOT brother A (but obviously, that doesn't mean the child is brother B's, if the mother had other partners). Repeat this 20 times, and voila! You have determined paternity. Note that paternity tests are *always* better if the mother's DNA is also being examined. If, in the above example, you don't have the mother's DNA and you find that the child has a *C* and a *c* allele at that site, there is no way to tell if the *C* came from brother B or the mother. So brother A would still be in the mix. Also know that this is a simplified, binary situation where only two possible alleles are present. In reality, there can be more than two alleles at any given site, so brother A could have a *c* and a *Q* at that site while brother B could have an *S* and a *z.* Or whatever.

About the DNA question, if the brothers were identical twins that means they share the same DNA and a test would most likely say that the bf is the father. If they were just twins(not identical) or just brothers(not twins at all) that means they dont share the same DNA and a paternity test would say that the bf's brother is the father.
