I volunteered at a homeless shelter, and a lot of the guests were not drug addicts or alcoholics. They had fallen on hard times through no fault of their own.

@@pamelalyon3264 Exactly! I've been homeless, about 20 years ago. Our landlord sold the house we were renting, and so we bought a trailer that was on rented land. Our new landlord didn't pat the property taxes. Well, guess what happened next... Thankfully we had jobs and even though ended up in a shelter, we were able to save and find another place. It took us 5 months though. I now work at a food pantry and I can tell you everyone's story is different and so many who've ended up homeless, or nearly so, it was do due to a series of events, many of which were beyond the person's control. People like to point out and say, well, what about the alcoholics and drug users. I tell them...those issues are likely due to trauma in that person's life. Instead of judging, we should just be trying to help them. We ALL have issues, and most of us are just a few personal disasters from being on the streets. And no matter what we're all human and worthy of respect and compassion.

There is a fulltime homeless population here of about 40 or so full time homeless residents in this small souther oregon community.. Some of them is real rough shape. It is a shame to see this lack of involvement from the Christain Churches in this community who by thier own frontage show the prosperity of their members. Yeah, These churches are failing to walk the talk of their faith and, put into action the commitment of their faith. Wonder why so many have left the churches? Faith without works.

Often teenagers fleeing domestic abuse as well. (SBS - Australia - ran a couple of series of this. "Filthy Rich & Homeless". Five wealthy Australians give up their lavish lifestyles for ten days to discover what life is like for the nation's 105,000 homeless people." It was run/organised by people who work with the homeless to give these privileged people a window into the lives of homeless people. It was eye-opening.)

Thank you. This message is so important. Dehumization is at the core of the atrocities committed by Hitler and the Nazis (and other authoritarians). A regime my parents barely survived as children, parents who told me all their stories when I was a child. I understood the extreme danger of dehumanizing people from a young age.

Woe to the downpressers. They eat the bread of sorrow. As a long time homeless guy I can say with authority, stigma is the biggest obstacle to people getting off the streets. Anybody who says otherwise is simply wrong. Jesse Watters and his ilk are compounding the "problem" for talking points and they know it. It's beyond shameful, it's costing human lives.

When my daughter was "10," she was in the hospital for 10 months. I had recently been divorced, so fortunately I had enough money from the divorce settlement to pay for some of the hospital bills. Years later I became homeless. It was extremely scary. I almost committed suicide. I was ashamed and embarrassed. However, I did choose to live for my children. I'm "76," now and my three children are highly successful, in all ways. Anyone who chastises another for being homeless is a vacant, shell of a human. When they use disparaging words towards another, they only shine a light on their own lack of humanity. This is a person who needs our prayers and compassion. They know not what they do...

I was watching a documentary about the work houses in Victorian Britain. They were the places where the most desperate of the poor could go. Part of the ethos of the place was to stigmatise the people and take away any self respect they had. The theory was that this would force the poor to stop being malingerers and they would change their ways and stop being poor. That didn’t work then and it won’t work now. This is still current thinking. There are no work houses now but tent cities are the new places for the “nobodies” to go. I need to be reminded of Jesus’ words in his sermon on the mount.

So sad - I see the same thing here in B.C. - a family member died and we had a large celebration of life . There was lots of food left over and I asked if I could take it to the homeless tent city . I could not believe the comments and I was told definitely not. So much food was thrown away. Bags of buns, chips ,sandwiches went into the garbage. I lost all respect for the person who said no that day.

A couple of decades ago I was discussing homelessness with someone I knew. He told me that people were homeless by choice. I said that that was ridiculous. He then accused me of being a "bleeding heart liberal". You are absolutely right. It is a timeless tactic.

Rev, although I am of a different denomination, I listen to you often, mostly agree with you and always learn something from you so thank you for sharing. I am a senior, disabled homeless citizen in the state of Texas. I too often hear, you are homeless because you choose to be.” No!!! I did not choose to get old, to become disabled and unable to work or to become homeless!! It’s exhausting to fight against such criticism and judgement. Sure, maybe I made wrong choices, bad decisions but I also had some successes before reaching this state in life. I am a people person I honestly want to work!! On the other hand, my Christian beliefs are that everything happens for a reason and everything is for Gods honor and Glory. Although I don’t know or understand why I am going through this valley, I know God will bring me out in His time and will set me up on higher ground!! Amen!!

The Trans Bathroom issues just highlights that the design of public restrooms are a travesty. I once attended a seminary in a building where there was hallway of small "closets" containing just a toilet. These were small rooms the size of a walk-in closet with just the plumbing. No question of privacy for the occupant. No separate accommodations for Men / Women, so no issues of having enough stations broken down by who would be in the building. Outside this hall were the sinks. Bottom line... there are other options to do things the way they do. BTW: "Nothing but drug addicts" are still somebody's child, somebody's sibling, possibly somebody's parent... often somebody who has seen atrocities in service to the defense of our country.

My mother explained God had made some people black and others ‘red’, ‘yellow’ or ‘white’. Other than that there was no difference. People, she said, should be judged by what kind of person they were. Your videos appeared out of the blue in my feed, though I'm not upset by this--I'm more surprised by how I'm beginning to reflect upon what I've been focusing on in regards to Christianity, Faith and even Jesus. Most homeless I have met don't do drugs, don't drink. They got there because one thing went wrong. People who think they are "safe" are only one emergency away from being in the same spot. (I don't want to be negative and say some people may find out the hard way next year) Reminds me of a story that someone told me once of a homeless man that went to a church for a service, and was turned away at the door. Someone at the door with him said "It's okay, I've been trying to get in for years!" Wonder who that was...

FDR had plans to implement a Second bill of rights, among which were: employment; adequate income for food, shelter and recreation; decent housing; adequate medical care; education, and others. A co-worker of mine told me that the last time he went to his church, he was literally yelled at and was told to leave by his church leaders after mentioning that they should donate and gather food for the homeless for the holidays. And what's sad is that all the other members of his church went along with the church leaders. This is why Christianity is failing. This is why no one takes Christianity seriously or respects it.

First let me say Happy Thanksgiving because I am responding to this Thanksgiving morning. When I was moving with the help of my youngest daughter from Montana where I had been in a nursing home for 2 years 2 St Louis where I was to live with my oldest daughter I said to my daughter that as a transgender person that if I was able to accomplish anything in those two years in the nursing home is that I was able to show the staff and other residents there that a transgender person is just that a person not someone to fear not someone to verify . The other thing I wanted to say this morning is that I am an avid reader of cop type novels. In one of the novels I don't remember which one if I did I would give a nod to the author but in the homicide department they had a banner up on the wall that said either everyone matters or no one matters meaning that no one is less than human and should be treated the same way as has everyone else. It is become my mantra in that everyone matters.

Matthew 8:20. They call Jesus their Lord and Savior, but denigrate the things Jesus was. They put Jesus on a pedestal too high to reach, but do the opposite of everything Jesus told them to do. They sing Jesus’ praises, but it all rings hollow. We are a very small convent, with just two nuns in a small house with little space to share, but we continue to welcome homeless people to come and stay with us until they can get back up on their feet. If we, with little money and a house in need of repairs, can do this, why can’t they?

Such an arrangement is a blessing. There are other things than strictly personal homes that can be offered to the service of the Lord. Some of them are necessary institutions. But this doesn't diminish the use of personal homes when the person to be helped is pretty clearly on the up-and-up with their intentions.

I found myself homeless in late 2016 - yes, in part due to a situation of my own making. Slept for four months in a borrowed car; got a job with a guy who didn't care if I parked that car in his shop lot; saved and with some help from family, bought an old RV for 5k; then my mom died, my disabled wife had to move into the RV along with mom's cat. We lived in it until I managed to buy us our first house (we're both in our 50's) in late 2018. I'd moved into the RV the week before New Years of 16' and moved from the RV to the house the week before New Years of 18', go figure. Things happen; and yes, sometimes addictions are in play, but for every one you assume wants no help, there are 19 like me. My boss gave me a job and didn't hold my homelessness against me; my family saw that I'd saved half of the 5k and between several of them loaning me the balance - oh, and I paid both of them back, too. Before buying this house I am sitting in now, today. The first two years of videos on my YT channel were shot in that RV, FYI, so I have receipts.

The topic is of utmost importance. From the Jewish perspective, there are a number of levels of charity/giving -- and the highest form is providing someone with the abilities they need to maintain their lives. ("Teach a man to fish..." ) Created in G-D's image and "placed here." Yes, it goes back to Eden, and the Woman's arrival on the scene to HELP Adam realize why he was placed here. And within 48 hours, they were leaving Eden. And Eve gets a horrible rap throughout history for doing exactly what she was placed there for. Leading to a justification for male dominance and misogyny.

@@SeekingTheLoveThatGodMeans7648 -- There was no wrong idea. The walking talking serpent -- who was very cunning (wise) reminded her of her mission, and how the tree was there. There was a world outside of Eden in need of repair. She knew that staying in Eden would make her and her children tzaddikim. One who does teshuvah is MUCH closer to G-D than a tzaddik. The serpent alluded to this. The woman wanted her children closer to G-D, and that could only happen outside Eden. That's why she didn't even spend 48 hours there -- and could EASILY convince Adam to recall his mission. (Having just been brought to life, she knew it -- and saw the means through that tree. The tree that G-D put there for that purpose.)

The worst part is that more homeless are being created every day. More people not able to afford even the cheapest housing. The city I live in posted a story the other day saying more abandoned buildings were being turned into affordable housing. Their definition of affordable is over $1000 for a studio apartment. I have a decent job and if I paid that much for an apartment as a single person I would be living paycheck to paycheck even more than I already do. And stigmatizing homeless? They have always been stigmatized- anyone saying they are being glorified has obviously always lived a very privileged life.

If people really, truly knew who we ALL really are, things would be so much better because we wouldn't be able to divide anyone into "other". We wouldn't be able to do what Jesse Watters did around the issue of homeless human beings. At the core of our "Being" is unconditional love, acceptance, compassion, non judgement. When we know we who really are, we know who everyone else really is, we share the same "Being". That shared Being IS "God". "God" is not a "being", not a separate entity out there somewhere that controls everything like a "parent" figure. Until people know who they really are, for many of them, there is an intuition of what we have forgotten, what became hidden and people search for what has been seemingly "lost". This "lostness" is due to all of our worldly conditioning and the egoic minds activities which cloud the Truth of our Being. What people are searching for is their "True Nature", the True essence of "I", a coming home to one's "True Self". This "Self" is not singular, not the mind identified "me" that most people take themselves to be. It is entirely free of all of the egoic minds identifications and activities and at the same time, it includes all of it. This realization of who we really are is what the word "God" points to even though the word is now too loaded to be really meaningful. "God", as a label, could be said to be the light of pure Awareness/Consciousness of which we are all an expression, without which, there would be nothing. The truth is that humans developed the ideas of "Gods", they developed the systems of religions and did it with human imagery, with human emotions in an attempt to make sense of what has been "lost/forgotten". Unfortunately, these systems of religions, all of the various "Gods" and beliefs therein, have, more often than not, been about collecting more power and wealth, about control of others, in the service of "ego". For the most part, they have not been in the service of "Truth". This is what I saw, what I "remembered" after a profound NDE. The NDE was a return to Pure Awareness, Wholeness. Everything human fell away, ALL of it. What I brought back from the NDE, I have attempted to share here, even though words, at best, are just pointers. Who we ALL really are, is Love.

And try not eating for a couple of days. And going out in the cold without gloves or a warm enough coat. And not be able to shave and bathe and have clean clothes for a week or two. And not having a dollar in his pocket. And not having a toothbrush and toothpaste.
