Outstanding effort for a low budget movie!! The acting, the dialogue, the pathos, the casual callousness, and the intermittent acts of and reinforcement of human decency ALL rang true. Not a false moment in this movie. The characters shown here are an honest cross section of the sort of men who have been inured by the brutality of combat in the Mediterranean Theatre, particularly in the grueling attritional fighting that occurred as the Allies attempted to break out of the Liri Valley in 1943 before Monte Cassino. Kudos to the authenticity of the equipment, costumers, and tactics depicted in this show. Hollywood could learn a few lessons from this production!!!

It’s extraordinarily rare to see an American movie as good as this. Usually they are stupid and unrealistic and filled with big star overacting and action- packed shlock. These actors deserve recognition for their convincing work. Probably this is on KZbin and not in commercial theatres because it is far too realistic and too accurately truthful for the massive audiences who suck up frenetically staged action and who succumb to movie star hype. As a combat Veteran myself, have to say this is the finest, most accurate film I have ever watched. My uncle served in WW II. A sergeant in the US Army, he participated in the Italian and German campaigns. Was in combat most of the time; e.g., the various platoons in which he was assigned got wiped out three times. He would reluctantly tell me stories about his war days that matched what was going on in this film. His biggest fear at the fronts, what he called the "88's" (German artillery). WW II really messed him up. A good but troubled man.

Didn’t know what to expect but this one got me hooked. Surprised myself how much it struck a nerve. Barely crossed my mind the abuse, and threat of death POWs faced esp. after surrendering to Western Allies who generally respect rules of war. sadly I’m sure there were multiple incidents like this, but not in all cases was restraint shown. Props to the actor Jake Powers (Rowe) for playing that role so well

long time ago Erich Maria Remarque described all those horrific things that war brings to ordinary people in hes master peace "All quiet on the western front". I've learned and took that lesson seriously. I kept that on my my mind when i faced the war in my former country. I tried everything to keep my hands clean. And I did . I've survived. Here we go again. I didn't get into the movie more than 3 minutes and you have the lieutenant shoving the enlisted soldier to the side like he was a sack of potatoes! A patrol in combat is like a band of brothers officers and nco's included, a leader can be firm but he must treat his men with respect, if he does they will follow him to the gates of hell, if not he will earn their contempt. Yes, the film is really well written and acted. I would add that I am an Italian citizen and it must have been a real nightmare for the Allied troops to travel up the Italian peninsula... too few plains and many hills and mountains cross the whole country. If the German army hadn't lost so many soldiers and equipment in the war in Russia I don't think the Allies would have been able to get much further than the landing beach...they probably would have been necessary Nuclear weapons like in Japan.

It has subtitles, if you know how to activate them…I sure did. The uniforms are all too new and without any wear. The conversations are way too loud, when on search & destroy patrols. Wasting limited good drinking water to wash bloody hands, is really stupid (better to use urine). Why the hell is the German soldier repairing shoes in the middle of a active combat zone. Virtually zero special effects re 88s…el cheapo budget 😅 Needed to withdraw prisoners, casualties & remaining combatants to safety ASAP. Grade B at best.

Great war movie about soldier experience. Small scale due to low budget, but with good plot, acting and details. Authentic not "Hollywood" drama.
