When I was little, I tap danced to A Shine On Your Shoes, but it was the Fred Astaire version. I love the 1930's! Thank you.

Johnnie Davis! Love me some Johnnie Davis! Such a distinctive voice. I never realized until recently he was the "Hooray for Hollywood" voice. So good, and so nice to here him in something else!

Hi Bob, so we're both big Ramona fans! I can listen to her 'morning, noon and night', not just 'every now and then' (yes, but puns expressly intended ;-)). What a gem this is, with both Teagarden brothers (I'm a huge fan of Jack btw, I love his bluesy sound and his lazy, laid back singing) and a lovely dixielandish arrangement. Abt this selection, all are late pre-swing ones, before almost all bands started to sound similar, making it hard to recognise the actual band cum leader. Also too bad recording quality had to be toned down from HiFi to Low and/or MidFi because most record players simply couldn't cope with the finer grooves and the extended frequency range (the early - heavy - magnetic pickups, let alone the even heavier acoustic one could wear a disc totally grey in just one playing). Influenced by the movie industry incredible improvements in recorded sound quality were accomplished in the early 30s (just listen to some RCA Victor Transcription Discs and you'll be amazed). Re your a question a few weeks ago, I HAVE noticed a marked improvement in your restorations. Where before quality within a clip could vary, sometimes the soundstage could 'wobble' from left to right, I regularly adjusted the volume between songs within a clip, I now have one volume and tone setting that is fine throughout the clip and also between clips. Have you set some kind of personal standard? I've also noticed less surface noise and a wider frequency range, making me curious as to how you've managed to do that. Comparing your latest posts with ones of some time ago, the difference is quite clear. Again, thank you for all the love and hard work you put into keeping me, and I'm quite sure many others very happy. You keep surprising with things we've either never knew before or songs never heard in a particular arrangement of by particular artists.

I really think it would benefit many students of dance band music to check out your posts, as I feel they would get a more well-rounded idea of what actually constituted the pop music of this era. So often, you see contemporary movies that are intended to depict this period and the music is all wrong -- they could learn a lot from tuning in here. I love this channel for its emphasis on the obscurities -- you can hear Goodman and Miller anywhere. Favorites for me are the Martin, Madiguera's "It Never Dawned on Me," Reisman, Ramona (with "gang" member Teagarden -- and, yes, I knew you love her) and especially the very beautiful Gluskin w/Buddy "Sunshine At Midnight." ... Interesting to learn that it's Clark Yocum on the Hallet -- he later went on to play guitar in the T. Dorsey band and join forces with The Pied Pipers when they came on board.

Bob, have you ever considered doing a video comprising titles of one songwriter (say, Noel Coward), or a songwriting team (e.g. Revel & Gordon) for that matter?
@pax416 жыл бұрын
Actually I have not Henri but that is a great idea. If you would like to pick out some song writers and songs that would help me out. You might want to select about 15-20 songs that way I may have at least 10 of them.

I had someone else mention that to me as well. I used the normalize feature on my software on the post from today and earlier this week, so hope that fixes the issue. However, there are some uploads pending in my que that have not been released on here yet and I didn't use that feature on them since I uploaded them prior to this being brought up.
