Thanks for the detailed product review! I purchased the bag after watching this video and it’s perfect. I have a small frame Ogre and Moloko bars with a shorter stem and it fits better than I expected. All three included straps hold it at the exact angle I need when not on a bar roll. I didn’t even need to watch hours of KZbin knot videos to figure out the cord trick 😂. I now only wish I could pull off the the high fashion pose you do with your man bag at the end. Too stylish!

I'm afraid style like mine is something you just have to born with. Its pretty rare ;) Glad the review was helpful though and that you are liking the bag. I still have mine and still love it. Someone in the comments suggested hanging backwards in the loop when not attached to the roll and I find that works really well. It hangs at a better angle and there is no need for all that faffing around with knots. Hope you have some grand adventures lined up to take the Ogre on :)
@jenniferw27254 ай бұрын
Perhaps I will try that as well to see if it hangs even better! Thanks for sharing the tip! I’m off on an adventure tomorrow and happy to have a bar bag that offers easy access to my snacks, bear spray, and other non-sense. I look forward to watching your next adventure!

@JethroJessop2 жыл бұрын
Glad you found it useful. I'll add that someone in the comments suggested that when mounting it standalone in the loop it is better to attach it to the frontmost bar so that it hangs towards you as you ride. This makes for easier access without all that mucking around with string that I was doing in this video. This is how I always mount it now when using it standalone.

@koldimond11007 ай бұрын
Hi jethro...does the sweetroll attach on its own or is it best served using it with the revelate handlebar harness?? Cheers
@JethroJessop7 ай бұрын
The sweetroll is a single unit. Double entry drybag with fixings and straps. It attaches to the bars itself. This is nice and easy but means the whole thing has to come on and off whereas the harness lets you take off only the drybag part (and change up bag volume as needed). Pros and cons to both but the two are separate solutions.

Thanks for the review. I have the moloko. Starting to bike pack. You sold me on this over the surly bag.
@JethroJessop2 жыл бұрын
Glad it was helpful. The surly bag is good but only in very specific situations. More of a day ride bag really. I'm still loving the Egress and use it all the time. One thing I didn't mention in the vid is that if you are using it without the bar roll you should try hanging it in the loop backwards. It is much more accessible that way while moving.
@JethroJessop2 жыл бұрын
@Jeff Dickenson I don't know to be honest. I would guess so from what I've seen of the harness but I haven't tried it so it really is a guess. I can see the appeal of the separate dry bag but it isn't that tricky to unclip the sweetroll. If you ever try this out though, let me know how you get on, I'de be interested to know.
@stillshunter2 жыл бұрын
Do you have any advice (or even better a demonstration 😬) on wrapping the Moloko bars. I’ve found a simple spiral around the horns works reasonably but since I do often use that vertical hand position climbing I need some extra wrap on the two horizontals to ease pressure on my fingers - which curl around there for stability. For the life of me I can’t decipher the route for a one piece wrap. I sense you have neared a solution here.
@JethroJessop2 жыл бұрын
I don't have a single source for a demo I'm afraid. I watched a few videos, and made one failed attempt, before I got mine right. The technique that worked for me in the end was based on the way road cyclists wrap around their break levers - which stick out mid bar/wrap. Do some searching for wrapping drop bars and you'll find what you are after. I also looked in to some of the fancier patterns where you wrap with multiple tapes of different colours. I didn't go with that in the end but sometime watching the next level solutions is helpful in the simpler cases as well.

Jethro, great job once again. I'm also interested in your rear rack. What is it? Thanks.
@JethroJessop3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The rack is a Topeak Super Tourist DX. It isn't flashy or special, it cost about £30 in 2010 and I've had it ever since. One of the struts sheared through when I was in Sweden in 2019 but it got me home and I patched it up with JBWeld and it is still going strong.

Great review! Are the straps long enough to mount it on top of a regular packsack which is mounted on a handlebar craddle?
@JethroJessop2 жыл бұрын
The velcro straps for the bars will attach to stuff up to maybe 2 inches in diameter but they are just removable velcro so could easily be upgraded to be longer if needed. The straps for attaching to the sweetroll have a good lot of slack and probably extend to well over a foot long so would give you a lot of options for mounting on other stuff
@timevans91954 жыл бұрын
Hi Jethro, that looks a good quality well thought out bag... is it me being my usual tight-fisted self, but they’re quite expensive aren’t they! As an alternative, I’ve recently bought a wald 137 basket, which is really useful for chucking my coat and stuff like shopping (!) in. It fits a small tent and sleeping bag/mat in and I use it with dry bags and a topeak cargo net over the top to stop stuff jumping out...cost about £25 and I mounted it on an ancient front rack I had. If you’d have told me 20 years ago that I’d be riding an mtb with a shopping basket on...!
@JethroJessop4 жыл бұрын
Not tight fisted at all. It is a lot of money for a small bag and I make no secret of the fact that I'm a bit of a sucker for gear and will spend money on it if I have it to spend. I actually looked into the basket idea but I like my bar roll and I dunno how well a basket would play with the Moloko. I always liked the description of bikepacking as being 'just cycle touring with better marketing'. I think there is a lot of truth in this - it is pretty easy to spend more money on less usable volume just for the sake of it not rattling now and again :) Still, it looks cool and it does make me pack a bit more thoughtfully.
@mathias51713 жыл бұрын
I use a chrome industries helix handlebar bag in the same way in the Moloko loop. It has good structure, easy one hand use, and is made of very tough, waterproof material.

I have to say the thing I miss most having transitioned from my touring set up to bikepacking style is having a proper rigid bar bag that you can easily use while moving. The Egress is really good but I do miss the ease and volume of my old Topeak Tourguide
@larrygray87543 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great video! I’m considering ordering this bag to use with my Revelate Pronghorn and your review helps make up for my not actually being able to see it. When using it without the Sweetroll, have you tried turning it around backwards within the loop and attaching it to the front crossbar of the Molokos? That might (or might not) allow it to hang such that you’d have better access when you leave the top unrolled.
@JethroJessop3 жыл бұрын
I actually haven't tried flipping it round and now I'm desperately trying to come up with a good excuse as to why I didn't think of that. It just didn't even occur to me. I just got back from a ride with the bag slung from the front crossbar and it does actually hang more open. Doesn't look very tidy with all the back straps exposed and has to find space between my lights but actually works well. Good shout on that, when my influencer empire goes global I might bring you in as an ideas man :)
@larrygray87543 жыл бұрын
@@JethroJessop Thanks for the update; good to read that my suggestion was somewhat useful. I thought the forward-facing straps might prove a bit untidy.
