My favorite collection of short stories. I've read over and over

I have probably read "The Partridge Festival" over a dozen times. I re-read others too. Like "The Enduring Chill." I love the stories where she has "smart" people doing stupid things.

So true about the greatness of this collection and great point kstock about the themes of some her stories!!

Her stories sit with you. You carry them in your mind and days weeks, years later you will find yourself going AHA! THAT'S WHAT SHE MEANT.... and I just love that about her writing. She was a GENIUS of her craft. I live one town over from Milledgeville where she lived in GA. I'm also Catholic. Her ability to capture the inner mind of a Catholic surrounded by southern protestant is SPOT ON.

Oh and my favorite story of hers is The River. I had a physical reaction to the ending.

I have not found a better book reading, and The Flannery is a great writer. I am certain she would grin listening to you.

Her stories are always described as "grotesque", but they're hilarious.

They do have elements of the grotesque but I totally agree they are jam packed with irony and humor lol

I was thinking Mrs. Turpin was going to be a few hundred pounds by the way it sounded, and here we find out she's 180lbs!😂 That isn't that big by today's standards at all!
