excellent presentation - thank you Dr Paulien for your clarification and definitions of what the remnant means - it is very helpful --- However, I believe the Lutherans could be seen as historical remnant due to their bringing the everlasting gospel in the doctrine of justification by faith --- Adventists would do well to benefit from this gift of Lutherans to the world --- After all the 1st angels message calls us to the gospel and justification by faith is very clearly the gospel-- I know the gospel goes back to Eve, to Abraham, but Luther revived it with clarity and we need to understand it

The remnant are to overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony. Ms 3, 1853, par. 1

And the remnant are not only pardoned and accepted, but honored. A “fair mitre” is set upon their heads. They are to be as kings and priests unto God. While Satan was urging his accusations, and seeking to destroy this company, holy angels, unseen, were passing to and fro, placing upon them the seal of the living God. These are they that stand upon Mount Zion with the Lamb, having the Father's name written in their foreheads. They sing the new song before the throne, that song which no man can learn save the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. “These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile; for they are without fault before the throne of God.” T32 231.2

Israel absolutely fulfilled God's plan. They blessed the world through Messiah. As a people, they were constantly failing, but through their line, God sent his Son. This was plan A and a successful mission. Yes, along the way, others from the surrounding nations were drawn, but that Israel was to live a perfected holy life was not the expectation. We are sinful humans, after all. God gave us the Light of the World through a broken and wayward people to show that HIS righteousness is the only WAY. This message had been carried through a Remanant through time and history. All who come to Him in His name are those who carry the Light to the world. We carry Him as Light Bearers.
