What a disappointment. I've been listening for the last hour and have yet to really know anything in depth of the characters introduced so far. Unlike the first two books in this series, the reader has no reason to care about anyone. I enjoyed the first two "Pillars" because they were written in remarkably illuminating prose and after an hour I could not put either one down. I am tempted to just abandon the rest of the saga. Very disappointed, indeed.

Think he means that the UPLOAD is rubbish (NOT the novels). "Pillars" are a great series of novels but this entire bunch of uploaded videos is f'd-up! Do not waste time with anything this person these uploads...Yeah...they're "free", but so are the contents of the dumpster behind any 5-star restaurant.

Ken Follett is much better than 90% of the other half million (or so) historic fiction authors but his stuff is still very formulaic and basic. Good guys and bad guys, very little nuance. His characters are saintly and brave or evil and cowardly, never a realistic mix of human strengths and weaknesses. And the reader is instantly informed whether someone is a baddie or a goodie - like the black hats and white hats in early cowboy movies.
