I passed my test today and wanted to say a huge thanks as parallel parking was an area I really struggled with as I never knew when to turn the wheel right and I struggled with the angle, but by watching this video I understood that I needed to wait for the curb to disappear in the left mirror. Man I remember my first instructor who probably made me hate maneuvers. We used the same technique. And through the course of my lessons. We focused on mostly driving and left maneuver training for last. When we eventually started doing maneuvers, he just get cranky like in a fit of rage when I mess up. Pretty much what made me go hiatus on my driving lessons. And went for a different instructor. Some instructors just do not get that some suffer more anxiety more than the other.

learnt via the same method, but don't understand why I was taught odd references that are fairly height specific, meaning most for parallel and bay parking didn't work as I'm quite tall
@AdvanceDrivingSchool
@AdvanceDrivingSchool 5 жыл бұрын
Reference points often have to be adjusted to suit the individual, as everyones driving position is different. On this manoeuvre we generally need to fine-tune the position of the left mirror to suit each driver. Once the correct position is found, the manoeuvre is then quite reliable.

@PhearMyWrath
@PhearMyWrath 4 жыл бұрын
I seem to struggle with when to turn right. When I do I either end up too far from the kerb or I am too close. What am I doing wrong? Can't figure out a reference point
@AdvanceDrivingSchool
@AdvanceDrivingSchool 4 жыл бұрын
We like to use the kerb disappearing from the left mirror as a reference point, but you might need to find your own. Of course, all reference points are a little inaccurate, as there are so many variables - such as the exact speed of the car, the speed we turn the steering wheel, or even our seating and mirror position. This is why we like to do everything slowly, so that we are more precise with our car control. Keep practising and you'll get it eventually!

Thank you for your videos they have been great help to me.I have a test next week , my instructor thinks am ok but we have been fighting over me drifting too close to the curb or parked cars on my left. What reference point would you suggest?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool
@AdvanceDrivingSchool 6 жыл бұрын
When driving along normal roads I often suggest lining the centre of the road with the bottom right corner of the windscreen, as it generally puts the car into a good road position. When passing parked cars there is no reference, but we should leave a 'doors width' gap whenever possible, incase someone opens their car door unexpectedly. If you need help judging this why not stop alongside a parked car with this gap and get used to how it looks, before practising at low speed. HTH

When you say at the end steering while stationary can help, how does it help if you're not moving and therefor can't tell what directional effect it has on the wheels?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool
@AdvanceDrivingSchool 5 жыл бұрын
If you steer fully right (or left) whilst stationary, then you know that as soon as the car moves it will turn hard right (or left!) - which can be helpful when it a tight spot.

Hi guys, for this move, always make sure to check your blind spot and out the back window and all around the car - a lot of students get stuck as they focus so much on the side windows rather than looking all around. Good luck!

I passed my test over two years ago but always tend to forget about the step of parallel parking! I’m so thankful for these videos so that they teach you properly and the right way to carry out the manoeuvre

Thank you all! Your videos helped me to take my driving license at the age of 54 - never is too late ;-) The videos are great, the's lady's voice is so clear and easy to understand, the driver drives so smoothly! Amazing!

This was really easy to understand. My driving instructor has a weird way of telling me how to do this so I will follow this and my Dad's method from now on.

With my former driver instructors, she taught me this 1-2-1 technique but new instructor taught me 1 full lock to the left and 1 full lock to the right and made it easier to remember...

I took a break from learning driving for a year out of anxiety, my only regret is not using that time sooner just to keep pushing! I've been watching this video about 20 times and it helps to memorise the process 😄 cheers for that. Hope to pass driving in 2023.

I’ve been having lessons for a year now and honestly I feel like giving up and leaving it alone until I’m older because the amount of stress and anxiety it’s causing me makes me want to quit. I know I shouldn’t because it’s a very good skill to learn, but but I’m finding it tough to keep going. Glad to see someone else feels the same.

@@Cascade-xf6vc im so glad to read this, the amount of anxiety i get on the day of a lesson, or even the week i have one is like i've never felt before, but i feel bad if i stop them because of the amount of money already spent on lessons. just going to have to push through it, you got this.

@Deathllyhallows I am exactly the same. Driving makes me feel really sick and anxious because of my anxiety but I am trying to just push through it and get my driving license. I have my driving test in the next few days and it's worrying me sick. I cant think about anything else. You can do it. I believe in you. Ive been driving on and off for about 2 years. It does slowly get better the more you drive. It's worth it in the end.

I recently passed and had a big break from learning. I think having the right instructor is so important, as the right instructor will give you confidence. I also saved up my annual leave and booked a week intensive course with '2nd to none'. I also learned to just drive automatic so less to think about and I only ever wanted to drive an electric car anyway. Good luck all ❤
