I'm 24, and this buick is my second car. When I was on the search for a new car I went to at least 20 dealerships, visited a bunch of cars off kijiji, etc. and it wasn't until I laid eyes on this car that I felt truly happy. I literally cried when I saw all of the chrome. It's my dream car, and it certainly elevated my heart

The Lucerne is built on the Deville platform, and the Super corresponds to the Deville DTS which has the tweaked version of the base 275 hp Northstar. The Lacrosse Super is on the smaller Monte Carlo/ Gran Prix platform, and uses the Monte SS's 5.3 v8. For some reason journalists are confused by the "power = luxury" notion, but big car buyers get it.

Dragunov302 You're not alone. I've always loved the Lucerne's understated elegance of tasteful styling and comfort inside. I would jump at a chance to own a CXL or Super in black, purple, or red. Darn good old school luxury, I can dig it.

Dragunov302 No bud you're not. I've been a used Buick buyer since graduating high school in the 80s. I have fallen behind though on upgrading. I've been wanting an '03 to '05 Park Avenue Ultra Supercharged. But now a nice one is hard to find. So I'm looking at these Lucernes. I'm going against my original feelings because I hated the name. But now the car is looking more appealing so I think I'm gonna (regretably) skip past the Park Avenue and move on to the Lucerne.

Sad that buick is less popular here than in China. This Lucerne is really underated. Another sad thing. Its a nice big comfortable sedan. Great for the family. Much better than an SUV which is nothing but a gas hog.

The key to remember is torque and the overall power curve. There are a lot of ways to cheat around a HP spec, so you really have to read the torque spec and look at the engine RPM where they peak.

I am 35 and drive an 09 3.9 CX. When all automakers want to make a one size fits all sedan that is sporty and comfortable and wind up being not good at either, this is an honest car that doesn’t pretend to be anything but comfortable. I, for once, enjoy having a sedan that just EATS miles and has a stoic pleasant look, which I bought with 37K miles and paid well under 10K for. It’s made of all shared Impala parts, so it’s super cheap to fix if anything should break (nothing gone wrong yet).

Why is he insisting that this car is only on the market for elderly people? Im 17 and I personally like this car. It would be a lot better if it was rwd, but we live in the mountains and it snows a lot so we probably need a fwd. I really like this car though, better than the new Lacrosse. Now the new Lacrosse, there's an old persons car, it screams Lexus. The old Lacrosse was so much better.

I test drove Cadillac DTS, and it's the same chassis.What's funny is that that the Northstar V8 compared to the simpler OHV 5.3 Liter is actually the weaker engine. I don't think calling it a senior citizen car is necessarily fair, anymore than the Toyota Avalon or Lexus ES 350 is. Aside from Brand Cachet, they are very similarly tuned cars.

Completely valid points, and with any other marque they would be relavent. But with Buick, I'm not sure, especially since the Cobalt has 260 ft/lbs of torque and the Lucerne 288.

The Cobalt SS uses forced induction (turbo/supercharger) so it can't really be compared to a naturally aspirated engine. 294 hp out of an 8 cylinder is kind of low though.

True. But I recall GM/Buick execs stating that they were attempting to move away from the marketing theme "retiree's choice", hence the more agressive exterior styling of the last few years. Having driven one, the ride is "floaty" like a boat and feels just as comfortable as my parent's old '85 Regal. The tech options are null and dull just as in STS, but the luxury and room cant be beat.

That sucks, why even bother. do it right or don't do it at ALL. they just make buick look bad trying to sell it as something it is not. But I do love the style of the Lucerne. IMO pictures and videos don't do this car justice in terms of styling.

I dont see the point of putting a V8 in this, its FWD. The V6 is fine, its also a lot cheaper too and suits this car better. They should put a V8 in the Enclave instead.

It can have leather, wood, aluminum whatever....its still a 20 year old design and all badly put together. And it looks cheap. And sorry, a car with such interior cannot be called a luxury car. Dacia Logan in europe (which is the cheapest 4 door saloon costing only 7000 euros) has a better looking and better build interior than this buick.
