I had a '12 Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec up until a few months ago when I traded it in for my '22 Supra 3.0. I bought the Genesis over a decade ago brand new, and had only one issue out of it in all those years. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it and sent me on my way with no issues (10 year, 100k mile warranty). I had a great experience owning the Genesis over the years. If they still offered a coupe, I likely would have simply bought an updated model instead of getting the Supra (I do love my Supra though).

I’ve daily driven a 2013 2.0t Premium for the past 6 years. Bought it with 21k miles and just hit 80k last week. I’m to the point where I can’t see myself driving anything else. It’s the perfect mix of style, comfort and reliability while also being really fun to drive everyday, easy to maintain, and CHEAP. Not to mention the rarity of these cars in general, especially the bk2 2.0s which were only made for 2 years and never sold nearly as well as its competitors. It makes me want to put mine away and daily something different to see what these cars are worth in good shape in 5-10 years.

Thanks for sharing your ownership experience! And yeah if you can afford to I'd hold onto it, the rarity is sure to make these more valuable eventually I'd think.

Dude, im there with u. Bought mine 7 yrs ago with 27k miles and now has 75k as of today. Black in color, Ive done minimum bolt on mods, just air filter and blow off valve. Full exhaust, lowered with coils just a bit and slapped some good looking 5 spoke chome rims on it. She is a museum piece, and still my daily driver.

You press that big round button to the left of the steering wheel and it turns off trac control, keep holding that same button down and it then turns off everything except ABS. These steps are acknowledged in the message center between the tach and speedo and it beeps also...

Tf, you think that's an accomplishment or something?? 🤣 AP2's get in the 13's easy without going ham on mods. R-spec 2.0's, well not so much. Shaving a full sec from stock on the 1/4 in a Hyundai is much, much more commendable than shaving a half sec from stock in a Honda.

I own my dream car, a 2010 3.8 6-speed Genesis Coupe. It's an extremely fun, good-looking and underrated car, and the exhaust just sounds gnarly. I feel like it could have been successful if it was easy to mod (which would make it appeal to tuners) or if they put their 4.6/5.0 V8 in it (to make it appeal to the muscle car crowd - and quite frankly, these cars deserved a V8). Hopefully it gets revived in some form in the near future.

Wow what a throwback, I remember SabbKyle04 getting an automatic 3.8 new back in the day. My younger self thought it was the coolest thing and the next " 350Z" :) Without this car selling well, Hyundai would have never developed " Genesis" into what it is today :)

Love my '13 3.8 manual Track. 135k miles, just replaced the noisy power steering pump yesterday and installed an oil catch can to help minimize intake valve carbon buildup. Otherwise it runs strong, and 0 issues besides the aforementioned pump, and transmission was replaced under warranty at 60k due to crunchy shifts caused by recalled soft shift forks. I'll keep this till it dies. Also yeah, the traction control is an abomination. I switch it off in the rain. Borderline dangerous to have the power utterly cut off from minimal wheel slip.

The creaks are the various spot welds from the factory that needs to be fixed. The rattle is the shifter which you can fix with an aftermarket part. For the money it has crazy horsepower and fun as hell to drive. Can't really shift over 5500 rpms or you can get locked out. You need to completely turn off traction by pressing and holding the button for like 4-5 secs.

I drove an auto even though I was interested in (my first manual) and I decided against it because it had little power before 4k RPM. I ended up with a MK7 GTI but I still wonder how the Genesis would have been had I had experience staying in the powerband with a manual. Fun fact: I ended up trading in the GTI for a 2005 Mercedes C55 AMG.

If the traction control modes is anything like my old Veloster, it is accessed by either pressing the traction off button or holding it for 3 seconds and then waiting for the beep. The 3 second hold is fully off, the single press is “half off” if I recall correctly.

Hey Matt, do you know what would the longterm ownership would be like with that 3.8? Are they reliable or like at least on par with GM's v6? I've been on the fence on buying one mostly because of the issues with their 4 cylinder igniting in flames.

I have a 3.8 bk2 2015 with about 125k miles and never had any issues with it.

I haven’t heard much about these from a reliability standpoint honestly, but I’m glad others here are sharing their Genesis coupe experiences.

It's DI from Hyundai's debut in DI implementation. Would not touch with a 10 ft pole no matter what anecdotes I see in this comments section. OTOH it's pretty funny Hyundai needed an redesign and DI on that 3.8 to not lose face to the 3.7 VHR the competition was running... 😅

I use to own one and disagree about the suspension. This thing is the roughest spine melter I ever drove. I only got 16 mpg's in the city. Not that great of a car.

Where I live, this is the the car that is most obnoxious. They put the Canadian Tire muffler on it and think they are in a LFA. Then they get smoked by a stock GTI in a quart and say its rigged..
