Focus ST is such a fun and practical car. Loving my '16 every day for almost a year. Also, for anyone curious, the basic infotainment center really is quite good despite how basic it looks. Bluetooth connectivity is significantly more reliable than 2018 optioned out Outbacks I've been in, and the backup camera is the best I've used for a car in this price range despite how small. No glare, and the rear bumper is visible in camera view.

The basic screen is super nice if all you do is use Bluetooth. I’ve got a 2010 Flex with Sync 1.1 in the 7” touchscreen, and the Bluetooth on it is horrible. It never wants to connect. I drove my aunt’s 2017 Fusion with the basic touchscreen and it connected and did everything I needed it to. The only thing I wanted was a map. What’s nice about the outfitted newer 17/18 models is that you can update the touchscreen to have CarPlay and Android Auto.

Just bought one of these, sight-unseen, brand new (10 miles) from the dealer (who delivered it to me with the paperwork!), and WOW, am I impressed. I was just looking for a urban putt-putter to run errands with, all at a reasonable price and this was a real shocker, after I made the decision on paper (and after many reviews of reviews on YT). It was delivered for right around $21,000 total and although it's the base ST1, it's all that I had anticipated it to be--and more. I haven't had a new Ford product for a few years (got interrupted by a family member's employee purchase discount for FCA stuff) and I've got to say that Ford is doing a much better job with quality--and quality control--than anything I've seen, owned and driven from FCA. I have to believe this is one of the better buys out there for what you get, and I am looking forward to a few good years of owning this guy. I have another primary vehicle (SUV AWD) so the ST will be the part-timer and not really needed to be used in the (Michigan) winters. Looking forward to having a reasonably good performer coupled with reasonably good gas mileage and reasonably good form and function for a GREAT price!

Professor Von Should have gotten a new 2018 st1. Those were going for 18k with regular wheels or 19k with the machined wheels with the warranty.

I test drove an st1 and couldn't get over the small ass scree and the seats the cloth seats just kept rubbing against my arm and was very irritating so I had to get an st 3 with the upgraded rims and plus the a plan and 4500$ worth of incentives which was nice

The main reason why I bought a 2016 over 2013-2014 Ford Focus ST was because of the LED day time running lights, rear camera(the focus st needed it bad trust me) and the numbers on the gauges doesn't look like it came from pep boys or it was hand painted. Other than that, its a great sleeper for the fools who think its just a focus. Nice focus.... Yeah.... Wow it's has a 6 speed.... Yeah.... What's up with those gauges.... Matt, the 2015+ GTIs 210hp/256tq that is advertised are to the wheel numbers. There's numerous reports online of the new GTIs posting 260ish hp/315ish tq at the crank.

Dustin Shawley It seems like that's the biggest gripe ST owners have about the GTI. They look at its rated power on paper and determine it's too slow. They don't research the fact that the GTI is rated to the wheels and not crank horsepower. Mod-for-mod the GTI has more potential than the ST.

Just an FYI, the clips that were shown of the MK7 GTI interior were actually of the MK7 Golf R. They're pretty much identical but I noticed the blue needles in the gauge cluster

My 2014 ST has 36000 miles on it and the clutch still grabs very early in the throw. I'm guessing it also has something to do with the pedal positioning

To me a blanket rating of a car isn't all that helpful. I can rate how much I like it personally, but my opinion isn't the only one. I try to just give all the information along with my objective feedback of how things feel so that the person can then decide how it rates to them personally depending on what they like and are looking for in a car.

My 2017 drives much quicker if you hold down the traction button for about 8 seconds. It has much less torque steer (without the electronics second guessing and fighting itself) and it’s not held back by the brake on the inside wheel sucking up power etc. The traction control is superior in the wet however, where power is less beneficial than the grip of the outside wheel through breaking the inside slipping wheel. All of this is only relevant if you are using quality soft rubber like Michelin Pilot Sport or Cup, Pirelli P Zero tyres etc, otherwise you won’t get enough grip without the traction control helping. Don’t buy a car without the Recaro Seats, they are outstanding.

Well yeah it's only supposed to do 19.5psi continuously and 21psi MAXIMUM, if that considering under most atmospheric conditions the turbo doesn't need full boost to hit the torque target that the computer is waiting for.

Why would you review an st1 and not something worthy like an ST3 obviously it’s going to show its age it has no options.

The only difference from an interior stand point on an st1 to a st3 that is noticeable is the screen and the seats. Both of them can be upgraded via aftermarket or oem. When it comes to the screen, there is someone that can make the switch from a st1 to a st3 unit for around 1,100. However, there are way more aftermarket radios that will fit only on the st1 compared to the st3 because of the 4 speaker setup. There are plenty of people that has said that the ST1 seats are more comfortable and folks with st2 and 3 be looking to swap seats for st1. Folks with ST1 can buy the oem or aftermarket seats off of ebay. In this case, if people liked the st1 based on the review, then people would look into the st2 or 3 automatically to see if it is worth it. I am tired of people reviewing a car with different trims with the same engine but only review the highest.

Love golf gti's, but everyone has them. The focus st and wrx are my favorite sporty compacts for their pricw. Tuning then phenomenal for th track.

Hey Matt, Nice review first of all! As an ST owner myself I wanted to make a few points. The Recaros are only offered in the ST2 and ST3 packages, the ST1 seats are not Recaros. I think another point worth mentioning is that a fully optioned ST is going to be cheaper than its competitors that are equally optioned. Sure, it' doesn't have the AWD of the WRX or the refinement of the GTI but I think it's a hell of a value, especially in the ST2 trim. I was cross shopping a WRX, GTI, and the ST and went for the ST because of its value for the $$, and most of all the smiles it gives you every time you get in. It's a great car.
