@renewer At the rate they break these days, yes. I do believe majority of modern cars have mechanical and electrical bits, but they are far from engineered.
@truantray
@truantray 4 жыл бұрын
@renewer LOL..try owning a BMW after warranty, the "engineering" is to cost savings, more and more plastic and CAD to customer with no road testing. The new era of Chinese transmissions is upon us, which basically put Ford out of the car business. Now they just make vehicles for fat people.

Owner of a 2011 CT. With its specific purpose it is an awesome car. And its powertrain is bulletproof. You won't be doing 14 second quarters and you will get smoked by Civics and Sentras (trust me on that) but it sure looks good and I average 44-46 mpg.

@@MikeDiCiero I got a 2011 CT with 90k km on it. I average 61.9-53.46mpg(us) in summer. 51.13 - 45.23mpg(us) in winter. Daily it, driving ~60km a day, some highway and some 80km/h road and some city driving. Live in northern sweden, so ofc driving with real winter tyre. My uncle is a lexus specialist mechanic and he got a lexus rx with over 400k km on it, 09 model. Regular maintenance for me and np. My uncle had one problem with water getting into hybrid battery, so had to close the leak and working well now 50k km later.

@@TofuProductionCinema People always complaining about how slow the car is. Speed is obviously not why you buy this particular car. I wanted something economical while not looking ugly. And the sport mode gives me enough pep to do the passing I need. Also, you can find great deals on used CTs. A low mileage Lexus - no matter the year - is basically like new.

@Trades46

It's an aggressive looking thing, something my sister also agrees. However we both also agree the powertrain and its looks aren't that corresponding to each other. Still the sad bit is the CT will be going away after 2017 with its replacement (likely based off the new UX concept car) which is derived from the Toyota CH-R which is more a wee-SUV than a hatchback. Also given its size I'm not holding out on a performance variant with more than 200hp.

Yeah, like I can do 0 - 60 in 5 seconds in my street when it's full of traffic. It's always full of traffic, I live in the city! What do I need a fast car for? So I can drive faster into the back of the car in front of me? This car is primarily a hatchback designed for city driving. Why is it so hard to get that? And if you want a hybrid, a hatchback and a bit of luxury as you drive around the city, what else are you going to buy?

its because you should expect a bit more for the asking price. 42k for that F Sport version. It also cheapens the F Sport line its like if Honda slapped Si on the Fit, and only stiffened the suspension. Speaking of Honda the Civic Hatch is actually a better deal. Top trim level of the new civic hatchback is $28k. With that you get pretty much everything this Lexus has and a bit more. Leather, remote start, back up camera, navigation, turbocharged engine. On the CT200H Navi and back up camera are an additional $3,500 option in addition to the $32k base price by the time you option it up to have many of the features the Civic already has on its base $19k trim you're looking at double what a base Civic would cost. In my opinion this car has no place in the market when there are far cheaper alternatives. The only reason anyone would buy this is solely for mpgs, but personally I don't think thats enough.

Finally a decent review of such an underrated car. I purchased a standard CT200 (2020 model) and honestly it is absolutely superb. The bad press about it being slow is a myth. Admittedly, when I went to the showroom it was for an older CT200 model and I was extremely underwhelmed by the lack of acceleration when I took it for a test drive. I happened to see another Lexus CT200 (4k above what I was looking at); it was a 2020 model and caught my eye. I took it for test drive and was very, very impressed. I purchased it and haven't looked back since. The acceleration (especially in Sport mode) is more than sufficient. What is most impressive of all is to have a 1.8 L engine that is economical on fuel consumption is very satisfying. My advice is try to go for a model of CT200 post-2015 if possible.

So - there is a reason these cars run for 300,000 miles - the NiMH batteries are recyclable - so by the time you get the running cost of a regular car, that dies somewhere around 130-150,000 miles and has to be replaced - REALLY? A problem??? come on - all taxis in NYC are Prius's - for a reason. Next stop is full electric. this thing is a dream.I've owned 50 vehicles, from rare Alfa's to whatever, - performance IS NOT just about speed. The handling on this car is superb, and I've NEVER bottomed out on the brakes - and I drive hard. It is solid at 100 mph as it is at 30 mph. I live on Maui on a twisty windy road and it is a blast to drive - as good as anything I have ever owned. This guy is a downer with his way of perceiving this car. Try one - and enjoy. PS - I drive AT SPEED - 80 to 90 plus every day with this car. I own a 2012 with 158,000 miles on it and going strong.And JUST replaced the brakes.

This car is such a conundrum for me. When I see them on the road I think they are really really sharp looking. I do 90% of my driving in town so of course the fuel efficiency would be great as well. The downside being the lackluster driving experience. Sounds like the F Sport option may help the roundabouts and back roads be a bit more enjoyable, but everything else is just so blah. Such a shame because I really really like the exterior looks.

The "200" in the name Lexus CT 200h refers to the engine cubic capacity and the power of the vehicle's hybrid system. In the case of the CT 200h, the number suggests that the car has an engine measuring approximately 2.0 liters (or 2000 cm³), which is a common way of naming vehicles from Lexus and Toyota. Additional Details: The CT 200h is equipped with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine, which, when combined with the electric motor, results in a total system output of around 134 hp (horsepower). While the number "200" does not directly correspond to the exact engine capacity, it is part of the brand's naming convention to indicate the vehicle's type and position within the lineup. This type of nomenclature is common in the automotive industry and helps to identify the characteristics and positioning of the car in relation to other models of the brand. In short, the "200" in the Lexus CT 200h name is part of the brand's naming strategy, indicating a relationship with engine cubic capacity and power, even if it doesn't exactly match the specifications of the actual engine.

The IS and GS weren't designed with the 2.0 liter 8AR turbo in mind either, but shoehorned in during their mid-cycle refresh replacing the thirsty & under-powered 2.5 liter 4GR V6. My guess is the CT was meant to be an experiment at targeting Audi A3 & Mercedes CLA buyers. Obviously with the market shifting towards small SUVs (sigh), Lexus already decided the CT replacement would be closer to a shrunken NX than another compact hatchback. Considering the engineering cost to put the 8AR into the CT, Lexus just decided to not even bother and use that money to develop the upcoming successor based on the Toyota C-HR.

The reason why they brand this car as a "200h" because the 1.8l engine + electric motor output is similiar to a 2 litre car

Weber state University YT channel ran by Professor Kelly is arguably the most detail transmission dissection and informative videos around, check him out if you're a gearhead. I've driven this car myself and I liked the experience; it handles well, looks cool in F-sport trim, interior is top notch Lexus quality & compact size makes it easy to see out of. It gets amazing fuel economy but the biggest downside is also the fact its powertrain is sourced directly from the Prius. Passing takes patience when you are alone, but when you sit 4 adults and at highway speeds, forget it. I would have brought this car if it had ~200hp, e.g. if Lexus would have took the 2.5 liter Hybrid engine from the Camry Hybrid instead of the Prius. I love hybrid powertrains, especially since VW proven diesels is not the solution. However as the Accord Hybrid and Fusion Hybrid have shown performance doesn't have to be sacrificed for efficiency and the CT200h doesn't do that well. I wanted to like the CT200h; but its meager performance trade-off for efficiency leaves me cold.

On the infotainment - I've just test driven a CT200h Executive Edition and it looks like they've updated the infotainment system since this review was made. The little 'mouse' that navigates around the display is now a fixed wheel like most German cars, and the display and menus themselves seem to be updated. I must say I like it, I currently have a 2014 Mini which uses a version of the iDrive system from BMW which is frankly brilliant, and to be fair the Lexus system I tested didn't feel too far behind that. Overall I really liked the car, I think I'm going to put an order in.

Appreciate you’re being blunt. I am considering a discontinued Lexus product Obviously they do not depreciate compared to others but they are so reliable. I’m frustrated with toss a way vehicles.

"Why 200?" - from what I've seen, Lexus uses the engine displacement in the model name - EXCEPT in the hybrids. For those, it appears they use the "equivalent displacement" for the hp. So a 1.8l with a hybrid motor might be called a 200, just like their RX400h had a 3.3l (?) engine.

These are also great for people who want to drive a Prius but don't want the stigma of being seen doing so, most people won't recognize it as a glorified Prius.

Well...also...it isn't. It's a different chassis, different suspension, different body, everything except what's under the hood. When does that ever make 2 cars the same car?

Lexus has a larger number than the engine size because of the hybrid part giving it an added “boost” to what the engine by itself would be. The GS450h has a smaller sized 3.5L V6 engine and the LS600h has a 5.0L V8. That is just how they designate their hybrids.

As a Hatchback lover looking to save more on gas, I was highly considering this car. I drive a 2003 Mazda Protege 5 and I'm looking to get a newer car. Based on what I saw/heard here, I don't like that brake feeling. This would be my car for everything (not just a commuter!), so that means that I'm planning on going 70mph or a little above that on the hwy! What killed me was the cargo space. My current car has 19.8 ft3/38.2(rear seats down) ft3 of cargo...this car has 14.3 ft3/34.8(rear seats down) ft3!!! I'd be loosing cargo space in both configurations. It's sad to see companies are always falling short on 2, 3 or more aspects in their car design. They can never get it right in an over-all decent kind of way...>>>What's up with the "How to get rid of Hemorrhoids" and "Hemorrhoid Talk" @ 17:15 LOL!!!

Stopping power is amazing regardless of feel. I had a dude brake check me because I road raged a bit after he was following me with brights on and I have no idea how it stopped so quickly. Good tires mostly but I think the rigid frame played a part. No skid.

The 200 comes from the engine/motor configuration equate to a 2.0L normally aspirated engine. At least that’s what I read from Lexus.

BTW, I believe when Toyota/Lexus names a car that has a gasoline only and a gasoline/electric version (this car is sold in Europe as gasoline only in some markets I believe) the model name comes from the performance the engine the hybrid version produces. This engine performs nearly as well as a 2 liter gas only. Either that, or they just round up to next number? As in LS460 becomes LS500h.
