I drove a 2017 Series Yellow back to back with my 2015 FRS and the thing that stood out the most was the quality of the damping. The Sachs dampers make bumpy roads a non-issue. In the FRS, every bump is felt, and noted to avoid for when you next come along that road. The bumps in the FRS would upset the balance and poise midcorner. So when you are near the limit of those tires, it could cause for some exciting, but unexpected moments. With the Series Yellow, those Sachs dampers and other suspension changes allow you to just attack the road with confidence. The rear is more planted, and the front end is much sharper. Despite less rear end mobility, the car still feels fantastically up on its toes, and responds very well to trail braking and throttle lifts midcorner. With the softer rear springs, there is more rear end grip, so its harder to drift or get the rear end loose in the dry, but on a rainy day, you can use Track mode to safely (relatively) be a hooligan on any corner, at any time. The suspension changes are, I think, the biggest and best changes when getting the performance pack. In the US, you should tick that option, and pick your color, but up here in Canada, the performance pack is only available with Yellow. I like Yellow now that I own it.

Am I the only one who thinks that Subaru shouldn't change a thing? To me, it'd be fun to just improve it myself with after-market upgrades. I understand not wanting to void your warranty, but I think it's nice that the price is relatively low for the amount of potential you get.
@Vracer1117 жыл бұрын
Ryan S. Yes, correct. That was Toyota's entire intent from the beginning that many don't get... the BRZ/FR-S/86 is a base car that you buy and have TONS of aftermarket support with. Toyota/Subaru absolutely nailed the most critical part of a drivers car: chassis and suspension design. They even had aftermarket companies develop parts for the car before it was even released, so it had aftermarket parts ready to go at release in 2012. If you inspect the car closely you can see all the detail and thought they put into it being a car the owner can work on and modify by themselves. Bleeding/flushing the clutch fluid is the absolutely easiest of any car ever made an can be done in a few minutes with the car on the ground - just open the hood and the bleeder is right there on top of the transmission bell housing. If you want more power, you have MANY options to choose from - tons of top brand turbo and supercharger kits to choose from, and even stroker kits. Personally if I wanted to upgrade the power (and I don't) and had the money to do so along with the upkeep funds necessary, I would go with a 2.6L Synergy V8 motor swap. 2.6L, ~400hp, ~200lbft, normally aspirated, 11k rpm V8 that is lighter than the stock motor and drops the CG and works with the stock transmission.... It's the absolute perfect motor for the car from a handling and response perspective - from a cost and upkeep perspective you are more than doubling the price of the car and quadrupling maintenance/rebuild... For all the people crying for turbo/more power, consider this ... that isn't going to happen until they can solve heat management issues. There is already enough of a heat management issue with the stock NA motor (you will be going through ignition coil packs like they are brake pads if you regularly track one in a hot climate), a turbo would only further compound the issue and add much cost to do so. You'd be looking at $40-45k for a factory turboed version. How many would be willing to buy a $40-45k factory 300hp/220lbft BRZ/86 compared to the $26k current model? Plus turbo is not the same as NA when it comes to how the car responds to driver inputs... many prefer NA for instantaneous feedback to throttle, and therefore chassis control, at any rpm. Turbos may have improved over the last few decades, but they will NEVER match a well tuned NA motor for responsiveness. May get close, but never match... because physics/thermodynamic reasons. And in the end, the BRZ/FR-S/86 as envisioned by Toyota is about affordability, responsiveness, and agility - not power and speed at a much higher cost. That is what the upcoming new Supra is for...
@Mogwai-user7 жыл бұрын
That is what the car is for, out of factory it is basic bc it was made with the intention that the owner would modify the car. It is called an 86(under Toyota) bc it is inspired from the AE86 from the 80's-90's when mods and street racing was popular.

They Should Put Better Exhaust Headers & A Tune; That Torque Dip, Is An Annoyance, Which Is Easily Fixed Yet They Ignore It, Like It's Not A Problem. Unless You Shift At 6500+ RPM, You Land In That Dip, Which Is What Makes It Feel Sluggish When Not Driving Aggressively. I Mean, That One Won't Always Feel Like Wringing That Engine Out, All The Time; In Traffic, On A Ramp, Or In Some Slightly Less Curves. The Car Feels Amazing At 8/10ths & Above, But You Drive it At 4/10ths Normally, So That Dip Is Where You Always Drive Around In.... If That Dip, Has Anything To Do With Panel Vibrations In The Cabin, That Can Be Fixed By Putting Some Damping Between Dashboard And Overhead Panels; Yet They Purposely Tune It Down, For What Seems To Be No Solid Reason At All... That's My Only Gripe With What Is The Purest Sports Car You Can Buy Today. And The Engine Note. Someone Needs To Tune That Exhaust Properly. Enough With 86mm Tropes. It Needs To Sound Like A Rumbling, Throaty Boxer. Not A Garbage Truck Gargling On Glass. It Badly Needs A Good OEM Exhaust.

cisco ajkb I have a toyota 86 and it needs more power, it has a terrible torque dip that makes it feel slower than a Jeep. I get it shouldn’t have 400 horsepower, but it isn’t sports car fast. @xFlared3 жыл бұрын
@@jponz85 If they put in a V6 in the the front end would not be as sharp. The steering will be vague, heavy and you'd feel the car turning in much later simply due to the front weight. I watched best motoring with Tsuchiya recently and in one of the episodes they brought in a V6 86. The understeer was horrible, front end was not as responsive, and the front tires wore down fast. It turned into a mini muscle car that got devoured by a stock 86 on the touge they were testing it on. Heavier engine would annihilate main characteristic of this vehicle. Handling. In addition handling that is so light it rivals porsches in terms of feeling alone. Ironically on tighter courses even the turbo is slower. A stock engine 86 with better suspension, tires and brakes will beat a turbo 86 with same modifications simply because the lag and huge chunks of late torque thrusts upsets it in corners. I guess the best option would be a supercharger. A more linear response and minimal addition of weight should retain its characteristics while giving it a significant "balanced" power boost.

Drove it Across country from Colorado Rockies in Breckenridge to New Hampshire Lake winnipasuake in about 35 hours stopping only for fuel and food every 4-5 hours for no more then 20 minutes. I had to get home in a hurry and i was amazed i put 2200 miles on it running it hard up and down mountains and highways and it never skipped a beat or over heated. Absolutely amazing car and a pleasure to drive. It was more comfy strangely then my 4 door jaguar x-type i traded in but the back seat is all but useless for people lol. I wish i had saved my Snap Chat story i did in every state i was in, or thought to make a video i was just to tired and focusing in the drive. Not the fastest around but wouldn't you rather use all your gear almost anywhere you are if you choose too with a satisfying sound and snap, not to mention the obvious drift fun to be had.All I can say is watch any video of anyone driving one and there is a smile on their faces! With that said the new model has a extra 5hp stock and the performance package has some other cool goodies like rims and brakes ect. Also a very gamer feeling lap and stop watch mode that is triggered with buttons on steering wheel if your ever doing laps or 0-60 ect, plus other cool performance readers. Upset they don't have gps on the video or a way to link phone gps...i mean its 2017 you cant figure that shit out so i dont have to look at my phone? Either way what i good deal I almost leased it because of the buy option after 3 years but it was love at first site and i mean to own it out right by 2019! Cant wait to rip these windy New England roads for 6 months till i put her away for winter.

People that say that the BRZ needs more power don't understand what the BRZ actually is. It is a light fun sports car. That isn't made to have Hellcat amounts of power. It doesn't need anymore power.
@NeokingTech7 жыл бұрын
I don't think anyone is advocating that it have hellcat level horsepower. I think it's more that it's an attractive, fun sports car that is just slightly underpowered. I say it should be around 275-325 hp either with boost or by adding a V6. Plenty to have tons of fun with but not that much to the point where it's insane and scary.
@SUDOMILKYWAY257 жыл бұрын
Obviously no one wants 700 HP in a little car like the BRZ. I am just saying that 200 HP is plenty. Now that I look at the specs all it needs is a little more torque. But I think they should stick with the 4 cylinder it's lighter, also if it was a V6 it would just be a rebranded Hyundai Tiburon lol. But overall I think it's enough power for how light it is. It's only 2,784 pounds! But that's my opinion that doesn't matter, because I've never driven one. And I'm also not old enough to drive anything. So I don't have a say in how much power cars need.
@NeokingTech7 жыл бұрын
Understood. I've driven one, and while it was lot, it definitely needed more power to have some fun. It costs way too much money for that amount of power. A V6 would probably be overkill and too heavy, but with some considerable boost they could easily get it up to 300 hp.
@SUDOMILKYWAY257 жыл бұрын

Is the dip in the torque annoying and mood killing or do you just get used to it?

Isn't the MX5 supposedly even better in terms of handling?
@vhateverlie7 жыл бұрын
HUGE JACKEDMAN Not really. it's more fun to drive cuz of how the shocks are set up. this is more of a track car.
@ProjectM977 жыл бұрын
HUGE JACKEDMAN yeah the new mx5 is quicker around a track and in a straight line. The BRZ/FRS is more planted in the corners so you would feel more confident, but the MX5 can still hold higher speeds in corners.
@brandondannys-menary36787 жыл бұрын
HUGE JACKEDMAN the brz is a better track car, the entire suspension setup is stiffer so it's more flat and planted around corners. The Miata (which j personally like) is made for the back roads, they designed the suspension to drive on harsh to average American rods lol. So they didn't want it to stiff. You can buy stiffer springs and a good seat bar then it'll be great
@wanabevideographer16137 жыл бұрын
More or less Think of the miata vs BRZ competition like this: Do you want a roadster and something with no rear seat space and maybe less trunk space, or would you want a nice coupe that's punchy, and an equally balanced engine and with imo more character And with the beautiful Subaru Starlink. Appearance wise, I'd choose the BRZ(even though the front bumper, rear spoiler, and the steering wheel is not really cool.). I'd love to have both but there's something about the BRZ I love. Maybe it's the boxer sound
@anthonyfrombelow7 жыл бұрын
Da BRZbeast You're forgetting one major thing. Slightly better handling can never make up for being able to put the top down on a sunny day. Miata, for the win.

I'm surprised Subaru hasn't made an STI version of this car for public!
@unlimitedpowerrecords7 жыл бұрын
that's strange...mine doesn't have the STI logo or the yellow Subaru logon below the shifter...?
@kevinbraun34277 жыл бұрын
Oh, I didn't know about the somewhat more planted handling. I wonder if that means we could up the FDR some more...

I'm not much of a fan of the yellow. Pretty much any other color available would look better in my opinion. I just don't think yellow looks good on these cars. I'll still get excited when I see them though because I know they're uncommon.

How does it compare your old BRZ? Should I save some money and get a used one, or buy a new one? I will be daily driving so it seems like the new features (back camera, new radio) would be worth the money

put more Hp😂?Google first to understand why BRZ /86 has been created. theyre not muscle cat or hatchback. it is for mountain road and drifiting , also the brz is fun to drive because this car gives you lots space and idea to refit .

I realize it could use more power, but I drove one of these before I got my WRX and it was a tough decision between the two. In the end the WRX won because of power, AWD (we have weather where I live), four usable seats, and I got a great deal on it. But I will probably buy a BRZ STI if they ever make it! Doubtful though. Maybe I'll get my wife a BRZ next so I can have both hahaha
