Dang it man, this is too good for YT, Netflix should pay you high dollar for the quality work you deliver. If I were you I would do a pitch for the Savagegeese show and send it to some broadcasting companies.

The C-SUV field is full of "offensive personalities". Thanks to VW for making the Tigaun the way it is - versatile, refined, and mature. No hyperstying, just business. That works for me! The 2.0 T is a proven little engine for a good balance of economy and power. I drove lots of Japanese CUVs - I'll stick with my German designed "Swiss army knife".

We love our 2018 Tiguan (our 2010 Wolfsburg edition was totaled when we were rear-ended at a stop sign). Like some other commenters, we like the simplicity of the design and the feeling of spaciousness. But you don’t completely appreciate the Tiguan until you take it off road, which we did for the first time a few months back. Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains (near Yosemite NP), VERY steep, rocky dirt road, a wilderness area with no phone service… For the first time, we put the Tiguan in AWD. It was a WOW-it pretty much drove itself! Coming down the road would have been totally hairy, but the car controlled the brakes and kept us from careening. Now we feel we can go anywhere-and we are two little old ladies! 😊

You've totally misunderstood veee dub, man. My brother had a 3rd gen golf back in 2000ths, since then I've sat in an endless line of passats, golfs, caravans. They're. just. good. cars. That's it! There is no intrusiveness, no bling, no "look at meeee feel something" type of shit. If you need that, VAG is happy to offer audis and porsches. WV is volks-wagen, dude! It's plain, no personality, but you kinda love it because of that! Everything is extremely well put together, thought-out, and pleasant. There are no crazy space age head- or taillamps from a RAV4 or stupid, childish window hick-up lines from BMW X3. VW are just cars, and they do their job. That's it!

Agreed, but it does make it a bit boring. Not for me personally, but I can imagine for a lot of people it does look uninteresting. For me a car needs to be practical and easy to use. Easy is also more safe because you don't need to spend too much time looking into the "smart" interface of a car just to turn your AC up or down a notch (for example).

They are durable, well engineered, beautifully made cars in each of their price points. Their resale values in Europe are the highest or any brand, they are methodically designed and tested in Germany more than any other brand, and its why they are the largest automaker in the world and have been for a few years. The no-nonsense design for what is a non-premium brand is very germanic, but very desirable. No other car company has this much of a culture and loyal customer following.

Good review! - We bought one of these a few months ago and actually find the third row usable for kids (or really short people) without much problem. The second row slides forward and allows egress without much issue - you'd have to go to a much larger vehicle to get better. This is our first VW and I actually like the dash design and color accents across it. True the rest of the interior could benefit from some color accents, but its not hateful. Also you did not mention the panoramic sunroof which is as good if not better than any others in the segment. Lastly, I think it is notable that VW went from a more generic rounded design like the old Tiguan (pronounced "Tee-gwon") and Taureg to this new sharply creased bodywork. I think it looks like a tall Passat wagon, which it essentially is.

The Euro standard wheelbase with the R Line package looks great, but US spec models just look bloated and bland. I think it would be nice if VW gave the US market a 5-seat standard wheelbase version and a low-mid level "sport" trim with nice visual appeal like the R Line. The Honda Fit trim structure is set this way. Different car segment all together, but it's logical, has nice appeal and doesn't cost as much as the top-end trim with similar visual cues.

What an absolute gem of a reviewer. Let me complement you on the quality and verbal speed of your comments. So many times car reviewers seem like they are so hurried In trying to deliver the information I can't keep up with the plethora of details. I think you are spot on with this take on the VW, however they do the daily trudge fairly well and the four wheel drive is a nice bonus. Keep up the great work! Loved your GT4 review as well.

I enjoy the other reviewers as well, but they offer their own brand and flavor. Nice job in changing up with the intro.

I recently leased a 2020 SEL Tiguan. I had shopped the Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V EX, Nissan Rogue SL having owned the Rogue 2 times prior. I have to say your assessment is a bit rough in several regards. In comparison to my putting those others against the Tiguan was #1 the Tiguan was the quietest of all of them at highway speeds devoid of wind or road noise #2 the interior while perhaps not as lavish as the CX-5 leather wise, it was a very "conservative" design as you say logically laid out. I preferred the interior layout much to the others....typical Japanese confusion. I appreciated that in particular. It's infotainment system was leagues beyond the others in particular so worth mentioning. The NAV and Sound was also the best of the bunch. #3 here's where I'd completely disagree with your assessment. The SEATS were without a doubt THE MOST comfortable of them all. They were like literally moulded to my wife and my back. The Honda's were a bit squishy. The Mazda's bolsters cut into my thigh. The Nissan's were well.....cheap. The Tiguan seats have a very durable material while emulating the look of leather NOT leather. I've had leather, a pain to keep looking new. A weekly treatment of 303 Aerospace spray and they continually look brand new. Also breathable. The handling and suspension was without a doubt the most "European" of them all. Tight handling but soaked up imperfections without being annoying. The Panoramic sunroof is quite a treat. The quietness at highway speeds was above reproach compared to the utterly noisy Nissan and Honda. So having driven and in some cases owned those others, the Tiguan was the ONE to own in my opinion. I'd say to others drive one and see for yourself.

Great review - except for one (important) thing: As a Tiguan owner I agree with the *vast* majority of your pro/con list. The vehicle is very spacious, got great multimedia, generic/boring design and lame engine (+bad mpg). BUT - your input regarding the 3rd row seats is misleading. I'm 5'10" so if I can seat relatively comfortably in the back seats, no reason you won't, and especially no reason a child won't. I don't know if there's a huge difference between my vehicle (fwd) and the one on the review, but the input about the 3rd row is extremely unbalanced. They are small, of course, but they are also extremely practical, and for a vehicle in this segment that is a MAJOR pro. I'd say that for a buyer who search for practicality (space, safety, equipment, build quality) - the Tiguan should definitely be in the shortlist. For someone who searches for design, performance, uniqueness - look elsewhere. Thanks for the review, you're awesome.

savagegeese - Can see where you're coming from with this Long Wheel Base, US-spec, low trim level, black interior, converter-auto Tiguan - they're a bit generic, and compete with CRV, Qashqai, CX-5, etc. I'd suggest that the more compact, top trim level, Euro-spec Short Wheel Base Tiguan SEL with the light coloured interior and leather memory seats, the Active Info Display, HUD. LED's and DCC, with it's lovely 7-speed DSG, and maybe the effortless 150ps TDI or the 180 TFSI, is a nice smooth riding, quiet and easy car to live with; and it competes favourably price-wise with an X1, GLC, XC40, Q5, E-Pace, Evoque etc.

very well done sir. I own the FWD version and I love it. I could not agree more about the personality/lack of but thats a perk for me. Everyone that rides in the vehicle loves how smooth it is, how easy to drive it is, and how quiet it is. They know they aren't getting into a speed machine and thats fine. I have a good feeling it'll last pretty decently and I've had zero buyers remorse. Its a great family car that just goes well to your destination. Were about to head south on a 800 mile road trip and I can't say i'm dreading the drive in the tiguan like i did in my mustang. lol

Best review on the Tiguan I have seen! However, I think the optional third row is not as bad as you described. I am 5”8 and tested the third row myself. It is fine for short local trip to restaurant, mall or somewhere within 30mins trip. I only have a kid under 4yrs old and I think the third row is handy when friends or parents visit once in a while. Sliding the 1 row & 2nd row seats in front a little makes the 3rd row usable in a pinch. For longer overnight road trip with more than 5 people, I will just rent a minivan. The optional third row is what makes me consider this car. It’s 5+2 rather than a actual 7 seater. If you regularly need to use the 3rd row, then car length like this Tiguan is not what you should be looking at.

Excellent review. I like the mechanical insight. Yes, there is a certain utilitarianism to the Tiguan. I like the boxy styling; so many of the curvier designs just seem loopy. The low hood, the big windows and huge views as well as the sheer roominess in the front and second rows are what I like best. The electronic instrument panel on the higher trims is really excellent and intuitive. The adaptive cruise control is the first one I've ever really clicked with. We got two tone (black and Saffron Orange) leather seats and that really makes the interior a lot more interesting. Yeah, it's underpowered, but since it'll be going to my teenage son, that'll keep him out of trouble.

Mr Goose, any plans for a VW Atlas review? I just want to know your thoughts on its driving/handling. I've tested it several times but it's hard to get a good idea with a salesman in the back constantly going on about how it comes standard with carplay. That large segment is full of compromise so I'm pretty sure that the atlas is the right compromise for me. I value your opinion so would like to know what you think of it.

The Tiguan is good for the base model. You failed to mention its massive warranty 6 year 72k mile transferable bumper to bumper. Combine that with the nice discounts VW hands out and you get one nice car for low 20s. I wouldn't get even the least bit excited about that $34k model.

If I could get a base model with 4Motion, at the end of model year sales for right at $20-21k, it might be a decent option. For $30-35k, I'd be looking at CPO nicer cars or a new Highlander or something if I needed it.

daren s exactly! I bought my 2019 Tiguan SE FWD in April and it stickered for $28,110 and they too it down to $24,000 and I got them to throw in Window tint, and 3 free oil changes. I’m very happy with it and I find the interior pleasant and durable. I think my only complaint is the lack of power off the line. Once you get going in the Tiguan it’s torque keeps pouring on and it’s easy to pass others even at 65-70 mph on highway. It’s refined, composed, smooth, planted & quiet. I have the 3rd row but it will probably never get used so the cargo capacity is great for my lifestyle. I love the long warranty and hope to get 5-6 years of good service out of my Titanium Gray Tiguan. I only wish the front center armrest was sliding and could be ratcheted up like some of its competition. It even has a CD played in the glove box!

The car feels so classy to me, especially for the price. Nothing about it looks or feels cheap. Its competitors feel cheaper. They often look sportier or more playful, but they don't feel classy to me, and the vw is classy. The materials and build quality are great. Features galore while still feeling simple and refined. I don't personally drive a car to go fast or do anything crazy, so what I typically look for is quality, comfortability, and ease of use. This is a car built for people like me. It's a little generic on the outside, but the interior is just.... nice. It feels good to be in this car.

My parents recently asked me what I would recommend in this segment, and I steered them towards the CR-V. But they stopped at a VW dealership as well and ended up buying a Tiguan SE FWD for 24k! At that price, I couldn't argue with them, it is a great value and $3k cheaper than a CR-V EX. However, at $32k+ it is way too expensive for what it is. That being said, if you want a car at an excellent value, definitely see what the dealer will offer you, because you can get these significantly cheaper than the competition.

I have to disagree with you that the exterior has no personality. Its conservative, that does appeal to many people. I am tired of flamboyant looking cars these days. Its nice to see a simple design. Carbon Cleaning every 30k miles? I doubt that too. Maybe every 70-80k miles. All and all Its a nice looking car. I think I would take a Golf Alltrack over it though if I was looking for a CUV/SUV.

I haven't owned a VW for the last 30 years and watching this video i felt so well and right seeing that i haven't missed much. The same old boring faceless German product idea-less technology sold without any reason more expensive than other Asia competitors. I can only say one thing that you cant say in a review like this which has also another perspective the presentation. This thing might be easy to maintain but it is going to need a lot of maintenance that is certain. I dont think also that someone could present this product better than you Mark. Excellent work. One more thing! Are you still seeing the girl??lol

"...It literally has basically no personality." Goes on to describe the sober, anonymous, no-bullshit, no gimmicks personality of the car. Practicality and invisibility are a personality. Regular Car Reviews nailed the VW personality in the Phaeton review. This car has plenty of personality when compared to the lowest common denominator faux edgy crap in other brands. It has zero sexiness.

Great review as usual, I did test drive the Tiguan and most of its competitors when looking for our next family vehicle and as an owner of a 2015 GTI I had high hopes for the new Tiguan. We ultimately chose the Cx5 GT as our vehicle, and after 1 month of ownership my family and I are truly glad we did. The combination of quiet interior, polished ride, and sharp looks as well as value for your money on the Cx5 are a winning combination for us that the Tiguan couldnt match... Test drive them both for sure...

Looked at these as well as every other option in this segment. You name it we test drove it. From this Tiguan to a Q5, Q7, X3, X5, Grand Cherokee, MKC etc etc. We ended up buying a Ford Edge Sport. The wife loves it. It’s nice. And is surprisingly quick for its weight/size. AWD of course.

Hmm, Civic style phone holder in the middle, Civic style mesh "squares" on the rear quarter panel, and Civic style hidden dual exhaust vents... They took those design cues, but left the interior bland and monotone? Odd.

The fact that they have a turbo 4 cylinder that makes under 200hp in 2018, and as the only engine option on a 4000 pound SUV is ridiculous. I think VW is just becoming as a whole the brand that is average. There's nothing really exciting about new VW's, however they aren't bad cars either. They're just cars, for people that just want a car.

Had they tuned this thing to output 220HP, or even went a bit higher and tuned it to 252 like in the Audi A4, I think it'd have been a real hit. I personally like the styling on it and the interior, just he horsepower is way to tiny.

Yeah this Tiguan 2.0 is very dissapointing to me. Made larger for Murica, long wheelbase only, but worse design and power than an ATLAS at a very simlar price point. I don't get it. Tiguan should have stayed the small CUV style SUV, and while Europe gets an incredible looking T-ROC we get this turd.
@weedmastersr
@weedmastersr 6 жыл бұрын
The T-ROC looks good on the outside but it has kinda nasty hard plastics inside. Feels pretty cheap inside. Optioned out, it can also get very expensive. A 2 liter diesel with 150 HP and some options can go as high as 33,000 Euro, which is way too expensive for a B-segment SUV.
