In this video, I reviewed the Kaiweets HT118E DMM, a 20,000 counts multimeter. I had reviewed a 6,000 counts HT118A multimeter from Kaiweets before and you can check out those videos as well (review: • Review of a Kaiweets H... , teardown: • Teardown of an HT118A ... ). Funny... i was just bombarded with videos about the HT118E. I have the HT118A 6000 counts Kaiweets and it's good so far. Was looking for another one and was thinking about the HT118E as an addition. It's funny that you just released a video about this multimeter.

I already have the ut61e+. Even though it has 1 digit less resolution in the mV range than this meter, the relative button and the faster bargraph and faster restistance mode autoranging are more useful. I don't need to measure mV very often and never less than 1mV. The ut61e+ doesn't have temperature measurement but i have an IR thermometer for that. i do use the hfe mode on the ut61e to measure transistors.

I also soldered a copper stripe to the ncv tab on the ut61e+ to make it more sensitive.

I left one of my budget multimeters in the car last winter and it experienced a brutally cold Michigan weekend. Something must have happened to the the internal resistors or the voltage reference because it no longer reads 10mv high in the 10v range. It may be a mild form of cryo treatment. The change seems permanent. I just noticed your an870 /Rm215 (same as mine) could benefit from an overnight stay in a ziploc bag in the freezer.

Excellent video!!, I bought in 2022 via Aliexpress a Habotest ht118A multimeter, which I stopped using for a few days and the batteries leaked but they did not manage to spill liquid, I uncovered it, cleaned it and it did not turn on again!!! wasted money and they recommended it as good!!! I tested all the components and the only ones that give me a short are 2 smd transistors Y1 q1 and q2, if I remember correctly. I replaced them but tried to turn it on, it performs the calibration as indicated there but it returns an error "0" and I can't find any data on that. A real shame because it has nice looks and functions.

If your basic look reveals an apparent lack of full protection to CAT III/CAT IV and it certainly appears so by the size/types of fuses and the absence of decent sized MOVs (doubled-up for redundancy) the product does not comply with the requirements of ISO 61010-1 and should be regarded as unsafe. Some of the clearances also look too small for those categories, but without looking up the spec and measuring them it just doesn't suggest it has been designed or built with any regard for safety of the user.

I found that some digital multimeters have polar flip differences, which means different value if swap the leads when testing dc voltage or current. Could you talk about that?

Hello, would you choose this one or the UT61E Plus?
@davidschmid8193

Thanks for the detailed review. I'd really like something like the UT61E+ with the wheel of the HT118E. The slow speed of the HT118E, particularly in resistance and continuity modes, is a dealbreaker for me, but I also want to avoid a mode wheel with a bad feeling as the UT61E+ has it. Is there any decently affordable multimeter that you think combines the advantages of both of these?

Hello Kerry, I have a multimeter similar to this one but it started to have problems, I opened it to see what was going on, I have doubts about capacitors C4, C5, C6, C7 and C8, would you please measure the value of the capacitors for me? I would be very grateful. Thank you very much.

Hello - Will the HT118E show the voltage drop on a non-led diode and indicate it is good with a beep like the HT118A?
@KerryWongBlog

Good question. I just tested it and no 118E does not beep when measuring a regular diode like the 118A.

Great review I have been enjoying mine. I have one question. When you flip the meter to continuity beep mode and have the backlight on does your screen flicker slightly when the beeper activates? Just wondering if this was normal. Thank you.
@KerryWongBlog
@KerryWongBlog 6 ай бұрын
I didn't notice any flicker on mine. Try using a fresh set of batteries and see if it was just the internal resistance of the batteries.

Nice that you picked simple standard-looking voltmeters, some of the newer meters with the fake analog scales and various other gimmicks are getting downright silly.

@@NickNorton nope its not that, tried it, something is up with the PCB. I tried reflowing the input jacks and still didn't fix it. Pressing around the pcb near the A jack causes it to start reading in M Ohm from OL and I can't point what's causing it..... I don't get what's up with that since the I'm measuring resistance and it shouldn't be using that part of the PCB...

@@vermis my started failing from the get-go I couldn't get AC readings and then the DC readings eventually went... I had bought a expensive Klein and that one fell from the get-go. So I reviewed someone KZbin and found an Assark 85d multimeter for $20. I figured if that didn't work I only lost $20. But I was amazed how great this meter is. I hope this info helps you.
