@GOG REACH absolutely! Indeed the book doesn't assume you've taken linear algebra before. But I think SOME exercises at the end of each chapter might be more challenging for someone who hasn't taken courses where proofs were done though. Say, if you only had calculus and then you read this book.

Is it suitable for a beginner who hasn’t taken linear algebra yet, but has gone through Spivak’s calculus?

If a student has made it through Spivak's calculus, they certainly do have the mathematical maturity for Axler's book. It doesn't assume any prior knowledge of linear algebra for sure. My personal preference would be for a student to have had an elementary linear algebra course emphasizing matrices, linear maps and vector spaces in R^n before going into Axler (especially since that helps build some geometric intuition and a facility for computations in linear algebra) but, I wouldn't say it's absence will be a huge barrier.
