Hello Internet,
Today I'm starting a new series of videos where I review a synth but from a Psytrance producer point of view.
I am not looking into going through a deep dive in the synth's features (unless you request it) but a highlight of the features that interests me the most as a Psy producer and what made me buy the synth it self.
PS : The synth is being controlled by the Arturia MicroFreak
Hope you like this new format of videos :)
If you have any suggestions for the upcoming videos, feel free to leave a comment.

A tip, you can swap the knobs! I swapped the pulsewidth ones with the tuning ones on both oscillators. Problem with touching the tuning is solved :-) GREAT videos, keep it up man!

I appreciate the details you provided for specific patches, what their purpose is and so on. Maybe on future videos you might want to specialize on one particular type or range of sounds linked to a specific patch combination, having each video focused on a particular sound setup of interest. Well, at least I would watch them. My guess would be that others would also find that format interesting / relevant. Thanks for posting.

May be one the best video have seen on YT. Format is good. Keep it. (Constructive critic for future ? A mic for your voice to avoid reverb room and another design table and you're a pro ! The mix between voice ans sounds is good. Very pleasent !)

These are already classics on their own league. Back in the early 90s the cheapest affordable analog monosynth was the bass station. And that thing was very limited, even as a 303 knock off. The sonic possibilities with today's cheap analog synths are vast in comparison.

I too have a problem with not enough attenuators, however, it's an easy problem to fix if you have a little spare cash - KOMA Elektronik makes attenuator cables with a slider. Or put it into a eurorack case and add a few cheap utility modules. The value for cash is still unbeatable in Neutron, even with all shortcomings.

True that, tho with the new system100 and system 55 I think am gonna wait and buy some modules from Behringer, I think like that I can add everything I miss in the Neutron ;)

Thanks, learned some new stuff. About the con with the knobs on the osc: I exchanged the osc2 knob with the filter , so I have a bigger knob for filter(nice) and a small knob for the osc2. It helps me not accidentally touch the osc2 knob.

Hey Ollie I hope you are doing wonderful, do you believe this synth is a good purchase right now?. I have many soft synths but I always find the sound of these analog synths especially for bases is more punchy and clear.

I had issues with the software for a while as well. The trick for me was to make sure the MIDI DEVICE section on the right half under OPTIONS had both the IN and OUT set. The software doesn't remember these between sessions, so you have to do it each time. Hope that helps!

More tutorials for the neutron, especially about the patchbay would be a huuuuuge help. There is nothing in depth on KZbin. The neutron is my first analog synth and I am experimenting with it since months! I bought it for acid sounds, but I stuck because there are no in depth tutorials about it and I am at the limit of my knowledge about sound design.. Too much details to become unsure what to do.. I am not sure for what kind of sounds I can use it. The half of the patch bay is unused at my neutron and I saw nearly every free tutorial. And an other thing, everybody is tweaking knobs and the neutrons are screaming and chirping in the tutorials - but there are no videos about integrating it properly and in tune into a track. For example which effects are important to come to a more interesting point, like chorus, delays or reverbs for common sounds. Just some ideas... Summarized it would be very nice to see more in depth talking from a psytrance or acid producer!

Good overview/review. Apart from a couple of volcas, this is the only real synth I have and I am very happy with it, for all of the points you mentioned. Have liked and subbed. BTW, I also have problems with the dedicated software. It's installed on my Win10 laptop and despite reinstalling to try to fix it, I can't get it to recognize that my neutron is connected, and so I can't use it either----slight annoyance....that being said, it is good not to bother with software and focus on creating sounds.

Hi, I'm looking for a little synth for psy fx, weird sounds... like psychedelic/forest music (Atriohm, Farebi Jalebi, Confo, Jahbo, Parasense...and psyprog "Zenon records" like). I hesitate with Arturia Microfreak, Korg Monotron, Behringer Crave, Neutron, etc... Also for make some bass. What synth do you advice for that please ? Thanks mate.
@olliepsy
@olliepsy 5 жыл бұрын
Hey, I would suggest you wait then for my MicroFreak video, it's coming next week ;) But to make it short, for psy FX I prefer analog semi modular synth, I think they can reach territories that can be hard to get to with DSP based synth (doesn't mean that you can't reach with digital synth, it's just simpler more intuitive with analog semi modular hardware)... :) :) As for a Bass synth, seriously, whatever as long as you can control the phase (love the oscillator & the filter), and even if you can't or don't have a synth that can control the phase, just get a good sounding bass from the synth you like, sample it and throw that sample in your favorite sampler ;)
@-zoave-
@-zoave- 5 жыл бұрын
Ok cool, thanks for your advices. For the bass I usually use NI Massive, Monark, trk-01 for example. I also maybe want a hardware synth, for much fun, and make interesting sounds. And why not make psy FX and bass with the same synth but more for psy fx. I noticed that lot of psychedelic music artists use VA synths like Virus, Nordlead. And also analogic like Moog, Waldorf Pulse... I'm interested by the Microfreak, I hear some good sounds on reviews. But not really psychedelic yet. I'll watch your Microfreak video :)

@olliepsy

@olliepsy
@olliepsy 5 жыл бұрын
@@zbeqem9507 tbh I've never touched a Beatstep so I can't really tell, but am pretty sure there's a way around that... I mean the basic idea is to send the 1st note then before latching the button you send the second one and voilà you have the glide effect (if the slew rate limiter is set correctly)... I'll talk about that really soon ;)
