Finally! Thank you Butterick for producing some clothes I would actually wear. And absolutely no tiered loose dresses - yeah! Great stuff.

Sadly I must be to the age that I am officially old enough to be a Chico's woman because I liked this collection a lot. I always appreciate the "wardrobe" patterns. I will definitely pick up the halter dress. So pretty, and I actually enjoy sewing boning.

I don’t think it’s an age thing necessarily. Just a lifestyle. Lol. Or maybe just like a certain sophistication!!

Several new design features are showing up in the 2023 Collection. Retro B6939: 1950s, one never went to answer the front door wearing shorts so the skirt was a quick cover up but also remember, very few homes had cool air conditioners, and with summer heat, the short-shorts were very popular. B6940 offers more the off the shoulder armhole because there's a push from fashion stylists to broaden the shoulder cut and optionally add shoulder padding of which helps provide a better visual balance of the shoulder with the lower wide hip: the illusion of balances creates more of an hour-glass effect--wider shoulder, narrower appearance of the waist, and wider hip. Different than we have usually see before. And I really like B6948 wardrobe basics--is a great beginner pattern. Thank you, Lindsey.

Don’t we think the wider shoulder just makes the garment look baggy? I get the concept but I’m not sure it’s being executed well. Maybe adding the shoulder pads would help?

Interesting about not answering the door in shorts! I always saw these outfits as a reflection that the ladies of the 1950's wanted to be prepared for every possible scenario 😊

@@missdemeanor3524 I grew up in the 1950s. I was born in 1947. Moms did not wear short shorts at all. Only young teenage girls wore them. Once married we were expected to cut our hair short and dress conservatively. Divorced women were shunned by their former friends (except by the husbands which was the fear). We wore girdles and pointy bras that, in retrospect, looked ridiculous. The women in my neighborhood wore house dresses but many times had pincurls or curlers in their hair during the day, which they covered with a scarf. I recall a lot of drinking and smoking. A cocktail at lunch was common among women who worked outside the home. It was very different from how women are expected to behave now.

That first women's pattern? With the pleated shorts? That's exactly the pattern I've been looking for in bigger sizes 😅 Do you know of a video (or have a video) for the top down centre out method for pants fitting?

I love the vintage Vogue pattern. If you make the side panel and the neck band and button band in a darker fabric, if must be a really flattering dress. Love the square neckline. So simple and effective, this dress. I would wear it without the belt, like a shift dress.

I appreciate you pointing out shoulder fit, it is such an issue with patterns. I'm currently working on a wearable (hopefully) toile for Burda Style blouse pattern and trying to decide whether to trim off some of the front and back at the shoulder edge or adjust the sleeve by trimming some off the cap. After hearing your comments I think I will trim the front and back bodice and the shoulders.

Our high was 57 today, so that vest I in the first selection would be just what we need for Montana in June.

I think there are some good values here. The shirt and shorts in linen would be very on trend. The vintage pattern also could be a capsule of several pieces. 6943 would be a nice cover up with some length added.6942 is cute, cute, cute! I have a dress with that neckline and it is not hot in even very hot summers.

I really like the dress 6942. I would line the top and sew in bra cups. I always have to alter these types of close fitting top portion so...

I agree there is always issues with fit in the photos, I’m sure they sew the samples and then find a model to fit them; back ass-wards for sure. However, I think you have to look beyond that and know this is where your sewing super powers come into play. Looking at a out of the packet finished garment is helpful knowing the amount of ease. The best thing to do would give us the size sewn, and the model’s measurements. That will never happen with the big 4 (there are a few Indy companies starting to do this) why? They don’t care. If they would tap into the wants of their customers, they could start a home-sewing revolution. Young people are creative and hungry for garments that express their personal style. Our youth are being to move away form disposable fast fashion and towards sustainability, I hope anyways.

I'm not sure what the pattern companies are thinking. If they are trying to widen their audience and attract new sewers they are styling them all wrong. First, I'm glad to see the Women's size's, but they aren't doing her any justice on pattern 6947. Why are her sleeves so long? The whole point of sewing is to be able to make those adjustments. Do they leave it that way because that's how the pattern is drafted? It looks sloppy. And like you mentioned about the drag lines and shoulder shape. There is a bust dart but you wouldn't know it. The shape in the bust is bad. The length of the shirt is terrible. They made it longer on the Womens than the Misses which also make it look sloppy. Sorry I don't have anything good to say about the styling of this shirt. Now for the Women's pattern 6941, I'm not as harsh on this one. I really like the dress but the fabric pattern they choose on view C is so not flattering. There are so many more flattering prints they could have chosen. Thanks for listening.

The plus size patterns have always been plain and dowdy looking. I guess they think plus size women want to wear tents. Also the larger the size, the smaller the collar and pockets, or any detail, appears. The plus sizes have always seemed like an afterthought, something the pattern companies begrudgingly brought out.
