Thank you for this review. I put it in my cart on Amazon for a Christmas gift. There is something about Latin that touches my soul when I hear it spoken or read it. ❤

Thank you very much for sharing with us. I actually came across this vulgate on amazon and was curious about it. I am just getting to get into reading the bible and am learning about all the different translations and about the vulgate. I had a question if you can maybe help me answer. Is this a Roman Catholic book? Like I said all kind of new to me so unsure how to ask that. Like I know the protestant bible is different so just curious if this book is Roman Catholic or a protestant book? Regardless if you answer or not. Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful book with us.

Yes it’s a Catholic book, it was translated into Latin by St. Jerome. This printing is of the Sixto Clementine edition published after the Council of Trent. The difference between Catholic and Protestant Bibles is not radical, the Old Testament is slightly larger in Catholic (and Eastern Orthodox) ones.

You have the Baronius Press Clementine Vulgate/Douay Rheims
@jstantongood547410 ай бұрын
It would be pronounced like deyclay. It’s French so your pronunciation would be spelled descli.

Is there a way to find a list of the differences between the editions of the D-Rhiems Bible- esp. New Testament?
@sw3aty_forteАй бұрын
The Challoner edition was edited in the eighteenth century and is the best edition of the D-R translation. It updates and smooths the sixteenth-century language and has many brief commentary notes. Baronius Press has a good version available in three sizes. If you want to read the sixteenth century version, which I do not recommend unless you are well verses in that era of English, there are many scans on Google Books. It was issued in two volumes with extensive commentary.
