Got it three days ago and it’s an amazing game. Took me 10 hours to finish one year, so 10 hours for a whole game sounds optimistic. I guess you could auto-win on easy or auto-lose after 10-15 hours, but otherwise I think it’s more of a 15-30 hour experience. The level of player agency is incredible. And the ease of play-given the complexity of the game-is possibly the best I’ve seen yet. One of the most complicated games and yet so easy to play through.

Agreed! It certainly does take a while to play though. But there's lots of juicy decisions to contemplate!

Backed it long long ago, box arrived a day or two ago, and I recall nothing from the initial pitch that hooked me, so thank you for making this summary.

Yes, it was a while in production, but I think you'll find the wait was worth it. A lot of effort was put in to this game

Waiting for my copy with great anticipation. Going to take LT's advice and play it with my brother (we've decided I'm the President and he's my Joint Chief of Staff). And I'm going to have him bring an extra d6 and d10, for streamlining. Plan on writing an entire fiction about this.

You certainly could write a great story about the happenings in your Presidency. When it's done, let us know! Hope you and your brother have a wonderful time with it!

This is why I switched from computer gaming to board gaming. You just get more into the flow/narrative instead of clicking a mouse, seeing a result, and having zero clue WHY that result occurred.

Yes, there is definitely something that is lost in translation when board games are ported to a digital form...

I'd love to listen to a comparison between this and Hegemony. I'm fascinated by political simulations and a bit disappointed to hear that this one isn't "partisan" because different political views bring different overall results. War mongering, social security, gun control etc can't be interchangeable. However, I'm still getting it, at least to make my own criticisms. It seems fascinating and I'm curious of the ideology the game has. One thing I'm sure: it isn't neutral. But a friend of mine compared it to "West Wing, the game" and I had to play it.
@LegendaryTactics2 ай бұрын
Well yes, no work of art is free of bias. If anything, I would say that it is an aspirational view of the presidency, of the good that leadership can do. The issues aren't exactly interchangeable, and you can certainly be a warmonger if you want to, but in general, you will have a more pleasant game if the world is at peace and everyone is getting along (that will never happen). Despite the fact that it avoids any sort of partisanship, it's a fascinating game and well worth the time.

You didn't actually mention how you win or lose, which is generally quite a key part of a game!
@LegendaryTactics Жыл бұрын
Yes, you're right! I left it out because, at least in the sandbox game, there isn't a way to really win, except by scoring legacy points and comparing your score to those of past presidents. There are certainly ways to lose - 14 auto loss possibilities in all, which would have been tough to cover in detail. From the Rulebook: There are fourteen different ways of losing in Mr. President. 1, Allowing a War between NATO and Russia will cause auto-loss. 2. Allowing a War between Japan and China may cause auto-loss. 3. A Victory for Russia is an Auto-Loss for you: If, at the start of “Russia Acts,” Russia has fulfilled 3 objectives (a Base in Eastern Europe, a total of 9 or more Russia Influence counters on the map (a Russian Base counts as 3 counters), and Eurozone Stability is

I've nothing against 10 hour games ... I'd happily spend much much longer on a game... but as someone who don't play solo, this seems just waaayyy to much of an effort.
@LegendaryTactics Жыл бұрын
I can appreciate that. We're going to give this one a try as a team effort and see how it goes. I have a feeling it could be pretty fun that way, especially if one person is the president and everyone else has to be their minion/advisor

I think every political system is a mess these days! The domestic politics are abstracted enough that anyone who knows about democracy and how it works should be able to manage it fine

A 10+ hour game that is luck dependent and light on strategy... Okay.
@LegendaryTactics Жыл бұрын
Yes, but strong on narrative. It's like a story which you can steer to an extent, and it helps you feel like a President, to a degree. It depends on the kind of game you enjoy - YMMV
