I really like the talk-over-samples style review format. Wish more photography channels would do that.

These new 1.4 lenses seem to be a game changer. I’ve been comparing the images that I’m getting with my Xpro3 and 33mm 1.4 against the canon eos r and rf 50 1.2 and I’ve been really impressed. Great set of sample photos!

Thank you Gary. I agree, this new batch of lenses has been fantastic. I still need to try the others though.

Great video as always!! I love my new 1.4 lenses as they might be bigger than the older version but you definitely get faster focusing in low light

Thank you! I'm very tempted to try the 33 and 23.

What a gorgeous lens. I recently picked up a 35mm f2 lens for my SLR. It took me years of using the 50mm to finally realize that it's a little too tight for what I want to shoot. An f1.4 like yours is the dream though.
@ChrisBoland2 жыл бұрын
I have been thinking lots about focal lengths recently. I would love to simplify my kit and having that one lens that you mainly just it's really freeing. I think 35 would probably be my one pick - I think, but it's not easy. Your 35 f2 full frame isn't way off this 18(28mm) 1.4.
@clementc7297 Жыл бұрын
Same. After more than 10 years I figured out that 40mm (27) is my focal length. Neither fish or meat. Just in between. Just good enough for portraits and landscape. I have a 14mm if I want more

Chris, I gave up my Canon 5D II with 24-105mm zoom for the Fujifilm X-T4 after seeing your images. I bought the 18mm f1.4, but I also got the battery grip that holds 2 more batteries, giving me 3 batteries in the camera. This solved the top-heavy feel of the camera and made it balance perfectly in my hands. It still is not as heavy as my Canon 5D MII with 24-105 plus battery grip. I am used to much heavier cameras and did wedding from 1965 to 1989 with a 4x5 Crown Graphic and flash bulbs. Try the battery grip on you Fuji and you will find it much more comfortable to hold. Would like to send you some images.

Thanks for the great review, Chris! I clicked the like before even watching : ) I've been considering this lense. I have the 23 f/2 and 35 f/2. I'm intrigued about the possibility of city night/street photography with the 18mm focal length (and f/1.4 apature). My only concern is the size and weight. I also have the 16-55 f/2.8 but I enjoy shooting with the smaller primes more.
@ChrisBoland2 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much Richard! Those two primes you mentioned are great and very compact too. I would maybe try the 18mm f2 first - it's incredibly small and has a lovely character to it. Thanks again 👍

I got this wonderful lens at my LCS Anniversary Sale this February. The LCS sale was $100 off, and Fuji added another $100. It was a no brainer! This and the 35mm 1.4 live on my X-S10. Last one will be the 55 1.2 II?

It's really one of the best Fuji lenses isn't it. They are making some very special lenses at the moment.

Beautiful images, as always! I think this is just a fabulous lens-it's fairly big and heavy, but the vividness of the pictures justifies the size. I bought the 18 f/1.4, shot with it exclusively for a while . . . . and then sold all of my Fuji kit to buy a Leica Q2, with which I'm incredibly happy. So, beware the siren song of 28mm!
@ChrisBoland2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I was actually going to mention the Q2 in this review! It's definitely something I'd love to have - this combination is my cheaper version 🙂

I have the 33mm 1.4 and similarly to your experience with the 18mm, it’s incredible how good it is. I’ve been really tempted by the 18mm but just wish they had updated the 16mm too. With the new sensor coming we can crop easily, but 18mm sometimes doesn’t feel wide enough.
@ChrisBoland2 жыл бұрын
I'm very curious about the 33. It's interesting they made just a little wider than 35. I'm sure the 16 will get an update, but I recall the 1.4 being superb. Thanks for watching 👍
@satchelofdoom15642 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisBoland I think Fujifilm went for a 33mm over 35mm because it’s a bit closer to a 50mm full frame equivalent. Yes the current 16mm is very good but I look forward to what comes next, as the latest primes are on another level.
@ChrisBoland2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, can't wait to try the new 23 🙂
@professionalpotato47642 жыл бұрын
@@satchelofdoom1564 It shouldn't be much of a difference because the 16mm is actually a 17mm.
