I actually picked this up for Steam because of you, and I'm really enjoying it, so thanks; I'd say that I'm closing in on the end of Volume 2. I don't really know anything about .hack beyond the game, but I'm having a lot of fun just going on adventures in random fields; the different weather is really enjoyable to me, even though like you said, it's pretty basic bro. Pi is probably my favorite so far, but Endrance never fails to make me smile; he's like the old "friendship is magic" trope cranked up past 11 until the dial falls off.

Oh my gosh I never thought I'd see someone talking dot hack on here?? I was a DEVOTED fan up until //LINK (time travel was just. too far. I cannot) and every now and then I STILL go back and rewatch SIGN or replay //I.M.O.Q. (I have not been tempted to sell even if seeing the price climb for a full set has been entertaining over the years). Each entry into the series has some chunkiness and a few problems but it's so near and dear to my heart and it really formulated my fandom experience... because of how much .hack//SIGN took itself seriously and was mysterious, I finally started watching anime with more critical thought (I was a teenager when it was first airing). I've been soooo meaning to get Last Recode bc I miss my BOIS Endrance and Silabus and my GURL Alkaid so much. It's kind of amazing to see someone taking the time to make a video on it?? Shit. This is a great review. As a big fan of the G.U trilogy it's nice to see someone who has the same love of the games as I do but also acknowledges the game's flaws and outdated game design choices. Reused background NPC models and claw hands/painted faces don't bother me that much because it's still a 2006 game we're talking about here. What I think that really kills the game is, as you said, the pacing and the use of log outs as a way to convey passage of time, and the lack of variety in levels. Walking arround a sunny field with that relaxing music playing it's one my most treasured gaming memories, but doing the same thing in the same 5 areas for 3 games kinda kills it for me now. Huge lost opportunity with Lost Grounds, the most interesting areas of the game, not being actual levels.

I beat vol 2 and since then I haven't really had the itching to go back to vol 3, because as you said, they start you off with the same chimchim quests and even thought I greatly enjoyed the plot and the twist at the end of vol 2 was really good, it started grating on me the repetitive nature of the game, and also the things that it wants you to do for the Plat/the wallpapers was just too much for me like finding PKers by walking around in areas randomly or kicking 150 animals, that just seems like even more padding, even if I do enjoy the base systems of the game. Another minor nitpick I had was the small inventory that made you have to throw things away or sell them when you had a certain amount over the limit. Still playing the first two volumes of this made me really love it, and I especially like Haseo's character arc and some of the sidecharacters like Ovan, Alkaid, Endrance and Tri-Edge. Also reading the forums is super fun, especially looking at all the little interactions like with Butt Rice and the other guy, and also the news reporter in the news section who has mysterious things happen to him parallel to the plot of the game. It's little touches like that which make me really appreciate this trilogy. By the way, you said this game is easy, but what did you think of the secret bosses and dopplegangers? Great review, even though I'd probably give it a higher score even without nostalgia, probably just because I like edgelords and action combat systems. Also yeah, ROOTS is probably the most slow and repetitive thing ever and it's really a disappointment for being a prequel to these games.

Honestly, my favorite part of the game is the worldbuilding with the forums and the news. The whole desktop menu was so cool that I didn't mind Haseo constantly wanting to check his emails. @vaevictus46374 жыл бұрын
.hack// is arguable as to whether it's an Isekai genre franchise. To be fair, it's more Sci-Fi/Fantasy more similar to Accel World than it is to Sword Art Online. Isekai implies that the main character travels to a different world. In .hack//, the characters remain in the same style of Earth as our own. The differences in timeline to the real world are mostly due to the stories taking place in the future (in relation to when the anime/manga/games/novels came out).

Alright, so...you say the email thing was just to make the game feel longer. I don't understand, did you forget that .hack//GU is about people playing a mmorpg? Haseo is the CHARACTER of a teenager playing a mmorpg. So obviously he is gonna stop playing sometimes to check email, the forum, news, etc and of course other players will chat with him online through emails as well. It's part of the story and the world building. One of the best things about the .hack series is that they managed to simulate a mmorpg environment in a single player jrpg. All those features were what made the trilogy so unique to being with. You can say the games are short and you wouldnt be wrong about that, but the CRAZY amount of side content and world building really shows how much work and thought the devs put in the universe of the .hack// series.
@PelvicGaming5 жыл бұрын
No, I didn't forget cause...being in an morpg is the entire game? And it's stupid when in the game you can literally recieve SHORT MAIL. I'm not ANTI-EMAIL but when it's literally an email telling you to go here. It's stupid. Checking forums, news etc fine. Checking your email after ever story related thing is stupid. And even if that would be the real life case that doesn't mean it's a good idea in game. In that case, why not make it more realistic and make him stop playing the game to eat, drink, piss etc. Some things are better on paper. I give credit to the world building, yes, I even say I appreciate this games ambitious scope. It is the use of emails. In any case, even if we disagree, thank you for watching.

@@PelvicGaming based on your review it seems like something to buy at a deep discount in the future. I thought packaging all the games together would be a bit tedious and your review sort of confirmed that

@@akillen77 this game make you feels like playing MMO, but without actually deals with real online player..it had good storyline..but the downside is you tend to be overleveled when fighting boss fight..however, you can set random map and go through the dungeon with high level monster for side exploring
@akillen775 жыл бұрын
@@paanazmi8062 lol thats nice so you don't have to deal with toxicity of actual mmo gameplay. I'd rather be over leveled than have to waste hours grinding, but when it makes bosses trivial that sucks.

I remember being a kid when .hack//sign started airing and being so enamoured with the premise, despite how awkward it ended up being for me to try and keep up to date on it. That said I do still feel like there's still that little bit of kid me that still wants to give this series another shot. I remember trying to get back into Sign, but that didn't pan out so well, (Though I will fight anyone who disses .hack//sign's OST). Weirdly enough I think I've tried all of the anime series, but never had the resources to finish like....any of them for some reason. As far as this game goes, I think the concept of integrating in-game life and IRL activities like checking email is actually really cool in concept, and could work out great in more of a Persona style context where there's better emphasis on dividing and involving both sides with each other. As lame as Checking email sounds in game, the idea that you're encouraged to look over forum posts really seems genius as a way to build on a fundamental aspect of MMO games, which is the social aspects of it. Lurking on boards, discussing strange occurrences with fellow players is such an exciting thing and really brings me back to my earlier days playing MMOs myself. Honestly after this I'm kind of wondering what the state of the franchise is, because this really was a series that was quite ahead of its time, and I feel like given the modern standards of gaming, attempting something else like this, a sort of single-player game set in an MMO could be fleshed out really well nowadays. Either way, great review as always Pel! All this talk of .hack really does get the child in me raring to go, and I might even try to revisit the series for a 3rd or 4th opinion lol.

.hack//G.U. is a series that does an excellent job of giving the player the freedom and atmosphere needed to truly get into the role and head of its main character. It's one of the ONLY video games I have ever played that actually encouraged me to "gamify" it without feeling like I, the player, was abusing the game system. Instead, it gives you the cushion of a virtual "real world" between Haseo the Player Character and yourself the real life player because ultimately you are playing as Ryou Misaki whom is a teenager in Japan known online as Haseo (in the G.U. series). It's a fascinating approach to the alternate timeline/futurescape, anime game genre.

GU was way better than IMOQ. The pacing was so much worse in the original games. And the combat system was so much slower. I liked the mailing system. It really immersed me into the story, and gave me emotional attachment to the characters, making them feel real. I was excited to browse new emails, forums, and news. It felt like my reward for some of the repetitive missions. But IMOQ needs a glorified remaster, and to change the combat system to GUs. And they need to include all four Liminality chapters.

I think the game it’s better than a 6/10 I played the originals back in the ps2 era and I finally get to own the collection on ps4 and im loving everything about it. Sure it have some annoying animations but we already knew that because this is a remastered collection not a remake. In my heart it’s a 8/10 if you really like old school JRPG like Persona 3 & 4.
@PelvicGaming5 жыл бұрын
It's more than the animations. The pacing is absolutely awful. Don't get me wrong as I said I love this game today but an 8 out of 10 is too high for me personally. Thanks for watching. :-)

I acualy used speed hack for this game on PC just too speed up the game a but be it repetitive dungeons or slow unskipable dialoged that wont let you skip text despite reading it fast enough. I read fast and dont understand enough Japanese for me to have to listen to evry line of dialogue being spoken seeing as i can read it. Surprisingly enough speed hack has no negative effects on the game its the equivalent of the turbo button on older emulators only for windows games only you can set the limit to how fast it goes it may break some games but as stated it worked fine in this one.
