Very impressive and well detailed looking model of the UP "big boy" locomotive, Rivarossi produces a variety of impressive locomotive and rolling stock models as I always see Rivarossi products on display at model train shows. This Rivarossi big boy model is a decent alternative to the big boy models offered from Broadway Limited, Mth, and Athearn Genesis as all of their models cost at least $600-$700 from what I have seen.

You are right! The athearn big boy with dcc and sound is close to $1000 which is just crazy.

I really contemplated getting one, but couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a plastic model. I ended up ordering a BLI challenger for a good deal less. Not a Big Boy, but will look just as good pulling my UP heritage fleet.

I'm a fan if the BLI models! I wanted to add this one to the collection just to have it, but I ordered the BLI UP 844 before this and honestly like that one better. Post a video of your challenger and let me know when you do, I'd love to see it!

@@wiseguysmith6519 I have the BLI and the Rivvy, BLI blows it away but it’s still impressive for an old tooling model. The Rivvy CAN short out on some turnouts, never a problem with the BLI

Yeah I love my BLI one too, and I noticed the same problem with shorting out on turn outs. I was hoping to fix the one turnout that is having those issues tonight just to see if I can prevent the rivarossi one from shorting out.

I've been using a yellow paint pen, figure it looks like a track crew marked a bad spot plus it will help insulate.

Rivarossi made an error with the twin stokers in the cab which are for coal not fuel.
