I upgraded mine up to 32GB of Ram and it works better than any other laptop I had before and I have a 1TB Nvme ssd as ssd drive. Soon I will replace it by a 2TB nvme. I can say it works almost like a gaming laptop.

Thanks for a great video, just picked up one of these used for $200 as I needed something with multiple cores and the ability to easily upgrade ram for virtualization. So far I'm really impressed with what it has to offer, a quick ram and SSD upgrade and it's punching well above it's weight-class for portable workloads and virtual machines

I got the HP 14S , Ryzen 3 3200U : Running Ubuntu 20, I have to manually build the wifi driver which is not so grreat result and experience. I check the support for 5500u, It still does not support Vulcan, so it will still use OpenGL. sad. If i buy 5500u, i'll just install virtualbox to use linux.

Just got this laptop as I was looking for something to replace the Asus Tuf I had before this. All thoughI didn't have a grand to drop this time around. I am honestly very impressed with this laptop. Especially how light it is compared to the other one. I dont super heavy game anyway so the 1650 was a bit overkill. Upgraded the ram and storage. only negative is no backlit keyboard. so i got a led mouse. problem solve. I also managed to get it for 350$ if it weren't for WA state tax would have been an insane deal.

I've bought 15'' version of this with boxing day deal. My plan is using for programming (vs code, eclipse, sql developer etc.), also maybe light gaming like fm 2022 not requiring much graphics games. The only downgrade I saw in this device is 8 gb ram but good thing is it has one empty slot and can be upgraded with a simple 16-24 gb ram buy. Do you think can it run programming IDEs smoothly. My current laptop was 8 GB ram i7 3610qm 750 gb hdd so, it was lagging a lot, was a pain using these softwares. I hope this one will be okay since it has new processor with 6 core and 1 tb ssd

I been looking for the answer to those question and this is what I got. Looks like if you get the 8gb ram you can upgrade to 16gm at max. And if you get the 16gb you can take it to 32gb. That way HP makes sure we can't get a laptop whose value exceds the price we pay for it. I have seen this HP 14 variants in Wallmart. And the prices go really high for the 32gb variant (will it go to 64gb ram? I don't know)
