The Kama was originally designed to harvest crops in japan. Kunai are just trowels. Shuriken were often sharpened coins and/or metal scraps.

@betafishjeremy7454
@betafishjeremy7454 5 жыл бұрын
No its still pretty crap lol make this out of 1075 or a stainless equivalent. Make it thinner and actually have an edge and then it would become a good weapon. It would actually work as it was intended and as a pick. A pointed round rod on that handle would work just as well as this would
@wilcoxway
@wilcoxway 5 жыл бұрын
@@betafishjeremy7454 Except for the fact that your pointed rod would lack a cutting edge of any sort. There's a pretty major difference between a curved sickle blade and spike. For one, the sickle shape blade utilizes centrifugal force better when swung. Second, because of the inverted shape, the majority of the impact force is centered at the tip of the blade, allowing it to bite into and slice the target. You know, rather than just making a simply puncture, it makes a fairly large gash since it pierces then cuts downward. So it's actually more effective than than just a standard pick. The blade is thick to give the blade a some substance of durability, letting you use cheaper metal for it. Of course higher quality steel is always a plus. So really, all this thing needs is higher quality metal and a proper pommel.
@betafishjeremy7454
@betafishjeremy7454 5 жыл бұрын
@@wilcoxway thats more or less what I was saying. Except it really doesnt slice with the angle of the bevel. Even the test he showed on the bummy was just a puncture not a slice. Thats why he even said its more like a pick and what is a pick but a curved spike on a stick. This is just a fancy version of a pick. This is far from what I would call a good weapon. Its ok or decent at best. Now for the price yes you could say its good however, would be better to save your money and get something better or learn to make them yourself and become a blacksmith like I did lol

A lot of the m48 crap you see is designed with one purpose in mind and that is to kill. Zombie go boom is a youtube channel that test weapons against anatomically accurate ivan heads that simulate a human head and I've seen plenty of m48 stuff ahnialate those heads. And those heads aren't soft either human skulls are surprisingly tough. The hacksmith once got one of their ivan heads and tried smashing it with a big heavy crowbar and the head survived with ease cause it was a lot harder than he expected. Then again zombie go boom also managed to stab a wooden pencil through them humans are weird like that. Trip down the stairs ->dead. Fall hundreds of ft without a parachute and you can miraculously come out alive. Btw they've tested the kama, kukri cyclone, war hammer, regular and double sided tomahawk, spear, and some other m48 weapons and they all trashed the heads with ease. It may be tacticool garbage but its tacticool garbage that works cause I've seen them use plenty of weapons like machetes, knives, hammers and other things that just glance off, break and fail miserably. Dont know what it is about m48 but they know what they're doing. I've yet to see a single one of their weapons fail to end a zombie or even break during the torture test aside from the tomahawk.

Yep. The E Tool was a scary weapon to face in close quarters, back in World War II. A good swing to the head would have caused a serious concussion, if not a skull fracture that would kill you in a matter of hours. But a sharpened hand shovel is pretty close to an improvised hatchet-type weapon. Sure, the edge could get messed up with digging, but it was still very brutal in CQC.

@@Saturnus_Ouranos ... Wow, dude. Wrong century, wrong geographical region, and you're wrong about flails as european weapons as well. A short sickle with a chain flail attached is a japanese agricultural tool, a combination of either a kama or a jingama for the sickle and a konpi which was an iron chain with a weight at the end. As a weapon the combined tool is known as a kusarigama, and spiked versions of them only appear in fantasy media. "Morning star" refers to *any* spiked mace, not just flails. Flails were flails, and came in both one and two handed varieties with different lengths of both the lead and the head. One-handed flails were not exclusive to cavalry, or even apparently specifically for cavalry, but two-handed flails are exclusively depicted in the hands of soldiers or knights on foot.

Great Video review! On a side note I have a great suggestion to improve the handle grip. At the hardware in the plumbing section you can find some thicker black rubber "O" rings. Try getting ones that are small enough that you can just barely roll them on the handle (starting at the butt end of the handle) they will lock in to the handle groves and because the rings are round they feel very comfortable in the hand while providing great grip improvement. If you decide you like them and want to make them permanent then you can carefully add just a drop of super glue to hold them on . Just an Idea that's worked great for me on a lot of my axe and sheath knife handles.

I asked a squadron leader and scout with over 40 kills whether or not weapons like this are practical in real combat and he said absolutely. In fact some people choose baseball bats as their melee weapon over their standard issued tactical knives. Believe it or not, I heard it directly from the best possible source. Swords? If you wanna lug it around then why wouldn’t it be useful? Swords are heavy. That looks light and easy to carry. Completely tactical.

Yeah... um, Britain was perfectly fine using spike type Lee-Enfield No.4 bayonets, Russia continued use of the spike bayonet on the Mosin-Nagant 91/30 as well as subsequent carbines, and France used the MAS-36 with its spike bayonet that plugs into the rifle. Spike bayonets are perfectly legal. They're simple to make, reasonably strong, and eliminates "unnecessary" features such as an edge. (provided you're using your bayonet for stabbing, or as a screwdriver to maintain your rifle.)

I bought the Kama's cousin, the Hawkpick, several months ago. It's literally just a tomahawk with a pick on the back. And it's the most practical for outdoor use. I used it extensively when I was helping with yard work. Makes short work of wood and even ice. Damaged the upper tip of the axe head a little bit, but nothing that a grinding stone couldn't fix. Sheath for it is similarly cheap but effective and I wrapped part of the handle in leather suede for added grip. Other than that, I'd highly recommend it to Skall and anyone else who's interested.

Should be obvious. If you go against an armored foe then something like this is really effective because all the energy is concentrated in the tip and you can pierce through the plating. I have a role-play character who was trapped unarmed by bandits in an old mine, and the only weapon available was an old, broken pickaxe. He was able to use it to such effect, with it's long two-handed haft and three striking surfaces (one normal pick side, a broken end that functioned sort of like a hammer, and the butt end was broken into a sharp piece of wood), that he had a dedicated weapon made after the fact that followed the same design concept. Think a large Warhammer with a 4 foot haft, a sharpened 2 foot war pick on the opposite side of the head, and a pommel spike, not quite long enough to be a polearm but still long enough to keep most axe and sword wielding enemies out of reach, and there you go: The Battlehammer. The ultimate weapon for fighting monsters and people alike. The hammer defeats armor, the spike can be used to strike over a shield with ease, the butt spike works well in tight quarters as a spear, and against anything that isn't human, imagine a two-foot spike being impaled into your chest through a heavy blow. Yeah, I want one in real life.

With a normal blade, that would be much thinner and sharper, you could yank it out as you disengage, doing even more damage as you tear a much larger hole. With this... I don't know, but if a weapon can't function defensively without a shield, then I don't see how it could be used in modern warfare, as shields are virtually useless dinner plates. That being said, striking a fast killing blow with this is likely far easier then with a knife.

leo233357 as far as I can tell the only difference between a this and a regular sickle is the country of origin I've used both varieties and I'm honestly coming up short with differences

You should test m48 tomahawk. It's pretty cheap ($30)and is actually very effective. It cuts wood very well for being a "tactical" tomahawk.

Folding would be nice, but a solid one would mean less parts to break, easier to clean, and cheaper to make.

Thats when you have a sword and this, this should be able to control a weapon pretty easy, add protection around the hand and you can easily control most weapons

I greatly appreciate your videos. You're one of the most educational and comprehensive while being so in depth that I've come across. It would be nice to see more M48 reviews. They have quite a large line/assortment. As far as cheap stuff, I've fallen in love with their designs and appreciate the thickness' they make. I've only recently bought some, like the cyclone push dagger and a 'trench knife'. I've been waiting for a good trench knife design to try. I haven't had time to do anything with them yet. Really curious about much of the line that they put out. The 'factory' edge seems to need a bit of work: I was thinking of using my axe/machete sharpener on them to get them to a better battle ready edge (as I'm extremely time challenged with work and all). Over the years I have come to gravitate more to club and spear point (double edge) weapons, as I finally learned that slashing is highly overrated.
