I have a Dewalt sliding Miter Saw and am replacing it with the Makita 12 inch double bevel sliding Mitre saw. This video I compare the two, review the Makita, and show how to use it and some of its features. Some of my favorite tools: www.amazon.com...

I was watching this and thinking "The only thing that sucks about sliding miter saws is that you can't cut dado joints like you can with a radial arm saw." Then you showed us the dado feature. I almost spilled my coffee! YAAAY!

Liked the demo on the buttons for features. The fact the kids ARE hard on them, and Mikita makes a durable TOOL. The SOFT START on the trigger and the result of control and safety WITH KIDS RUNNING THE SAW. Makes it much less scary. 12” is a lot

I really appreciated watching your video on the Makita 12" saw. You did a great job explaining things very clearly. I have been using miter saws since they first came out decades ago. I realize no saw is going to be perfect but as far as I can tell this particular saw solves most of the issues I had with my existing sliding compound saw, ie., dust collection, total combined depth, soft-start, and the narrow throat between the fences. These were key issues that constantly bothered me with my DeWalt DWS779 that I own and now decided to replace. On the Makita, I realize that I will want (not really need) to replace the zero-clearance insert, and somewhere down the line the detent plate (also a minor issue). The narrow throat is a big one for me because on my DWS779 the throat is way too wide and I have had way too many small cut-offs go flying because they get caught into that big throat. Way too dangerous for my taste......and, I have to say, the dust collection system is really a joke on the DeWalt. Anyway.......just my 2¢.

Great insight, I agree I don't like the big throat, stuff goes flying

Been using mine for about five months. Hated it initially because it needed calibrated out of the box, but it's been a workhorse since I got that squared up. The dust collector is incredible, and I really like how they've pushed the rail forward instead of backwards to minimize the space it needs. I think Bosch's articulating arm is better, but this tool shines over it in other ways.

Thanks for the review. two wishes: that he had hooked up dust collection completely and assessed it. 2. Since the saw was well squared up, which is nice, he never evaluated how to square up the saw. Lots of people complaining about this, I suspect many of them haven’t read the directions and are trying to do it the way they did it on their old saw. It would be nice to know.

Mean Green I’ve had the 10” version for about 3 years and it’s amazing. There are two things I would change on the saw. I would change laser to a light for a shadow line. The laser is extremely accurate but it’s to bright. I would also change the fence. You have to remove the fence completely instead of sliding it out of the way. You do get use to it.

I hear the dewalt is a workhorse but isn't as accurate as the makita. My friend has the hercules and to be honest with you its a good value but doesn't even come close to the DeWalt quality. I have been doing a lot of research and have come down to either the DeWalt, Bosch or the Makita. After watching this video I'm leaning towards the Makita. I just keep hearing great things about this saw.

@@topsaw have you tried the other two? I have a makita grinder nearly 30 years old still going strong. I use portable makita table saw my only two complaints are rip capacity and the knob to raise and lower the blade must twist it several times to make a cut, it has the power to cut 4x4 pressure treated whole build decks or rip plywood for cabinets that can't be over 12" or exceeds capacity.

@topsaw I bought a bosch 12 inch slider, I have a video up on it. Bosch told me it was a feature for the turntable to almost a 1/16th higher than the support tables. So, I checked one on display at lowes. It is off. Ordered a new saw that arrived today, left support was dead level. Right support was out 1/16th. So I am going to buy the makita. I stumbled across your video and was just curious what your theory was on it. Thanks for getting back to me.

At 8:25 you threw your lefty in between the blade and the clamp, while sporting the puffy no less. Solid practice for yourself and any students, whenever possible, lace your fingers into the clamp or over the back fence. After some practice, you can actually apply a little clamping pressure into those parts. It makes for a firmer grip securing your hand so if the saw chokes on the material, which will no doubt get torn around, your grip on the "saw body parts" will keep your hand from being pulled into the blade. That is almost always the sequence of injury,... material pulls/pushes hand into blade. Tough to explain. At 8:25 your hand is solely at the mercy of the work piece,.. 3" off the blade... not cool. Learned one finger ago. love construction.Great review thank You!

Hi guys.... about a month back I purchased a Brand New Makita Ls1019 compound miter. Since then, I've had nothing but trouble with inaccuracy, not to mention the time spent readjusting with every cut. In the beginning, I spent the first hour (after unpacking) doing the best I can adjusting the saw and making the proper Corrections (ie. Adjusting the detent plate, checking for positive zero 90°, checking and double-checking the table, the fence, as well as the saw blade itself). Still, after all that, I cannot seem to cut a perfect square cut on a 45 degree bevel without having to readjust the saw to a negative 1 1/2 degree!!! In other words, if I just finished cutting a perfect 90° square cut and then put my saw on a 45 degree bevel, the cut would be off a degree and a half!!!!!.. this problem actually caused me to cut into one of my kerf boards it was so bad!!!.. I don't need to tell you that this is very frustrating when you're beveling every butt joint on a tongue-and-groove ceiling, not to mention the time invested and having to readjust with every cut! I'm not sure if I missing something here, or the saw is just simply damaged! Either way, I'd like to know if the problem I'm having is rectifiable? I would appreciate any thoughts you may have on this matter! Thank you, sincerely Christopher Engel

The 708 is getting real hard to find. Contractors love them and they're no longer made. They are very durable and unlike the new saws, they're not as likely to be knocked out of alignment on busy jobsites. There are some fine saws out there for the shop, but a hard-ass job site needs a hard-ass saw. On a trim only job, hot coffee and good music, Makita!

Can you please do a brief follow up about this saw? I was planning on buying one, then I saw a KZbin review that the adjustable detent plate had worn out so bad after only four months because it's made of soft aluminum and that the saw was very difficult to keep an accurate angle. The KZbinr showed hor the locking pin wore out the sides of the plate. The man contacted Makita and they said they had no plans on making them from better material and that he was able to find a company that could make them from stainless steel, and in fact, sells them on his website for $110.00 Canadian. I also saw another video where a man bought a new one and loved it, but in the comments, I saw where he said he was having trouble keeping it adjusted, so I told him about the video I saw. He hasn't replied so I don't know if he saw my comment, but another person did. If anyone wants to see the first video, type in Makita 12" saw in the KZbin search bar and look for Number One Problem. It'll be easy to find

Thanks so much for the video! I was wondering if you would mind to take a measurement? What's the distance from the back of the saw to the fence? With your setup, my problem wouldn't matter much, but my saw is right up against the wall. I had a Festool kapex, but wanted more capacity for cutting timbers, so I bought the Bosch axial glide 12 inch. I really miss the laser of the Festool. The Bosch from the wall to the fence is about 14 inches. Could you tell me what that distance would be for the Makita?? Thanks very much!

Well, lets see how much you will enjoy that makita after a year or so when the cheap miter angle plate made of aluminium instead of steel start to widen up in the detents or what you called it english. then it will be ,ore or less impossible to have true cuts. I went with the Dewalt DWS 780 and it is a beast. Maybee not the most refined saw or most modern by any means but it has a lot and I mean a lot of cutting capacity, for what I know no other saw beat the Dws 780 when it comes to cut capacity. It also is very very accurate and as a bonus a lot of fancy extra features but to me that is not so important. More important is that it is also build as a rock.
