Nerf, the main complaint of your ammo wasn't that it wasn't a good design (speaking of the accustrike, not the elites), but that it was too expensive. So other companies capitalized on providing cheaper alternatives. Many of these alternatives are not better than genuine accustrikes , but some are as good or better. But in all cases, they are cheaper. If you wanted to recapture the dart retail market, you should have just made your current darts more competitively priced. Instead you've decided to spend how many dollars into creating a new line with the primary focus being to create a new dart that can be patented and then decided to charge $0.50 per dart? That is going the opposite direction. I don't mind the new dart type as I can't fault you for making it, but what I find utterly ridiculous is the price you are charging for them when realistically, the main reason parents and those of us in the modding community choose to buy the cheaper knockoffs is because we like going to wars, we like shooting everywhere we can and we lose and wreck darts constantly. We like buying barrels of darts to use at our nerf wars so that people who may not have their own blasters and darts can still come and enjoy a game with us. You're not serving that market with darts that cost $0.50 per when we are literally getting cheaper ones for pennies. Cool dart idea, good performing blaster, you're still missing the point on competitive ammo pricing. Bad form, Nerf.

Hit all the points I wanted to make. I LOVE Nee Innovative Ammo types. I Love New Innovative Blasters. It’s one of the best things about the Nerf brand... But outright saying they are trying to combat “knock off” darts being cheaper by making a MORE Expensive & Proprietary Ammo? That part REALLY doesn’t make any sense. All they had to say was they were trying to be as innovative as possible. That would have been received better than “we are losing money to cheaper darts. Here is our even more expensive counter action”
@Jediwhoever15 жыл бұрын
OC Nerf the first gun for this line should have been a jolt that way Nerf would have had more time to prepare the line and 50cents a dart wouldn’t have been as bad if they sold them in ten packs and this ultra one wouldn’t have been rushed and it would be a better blaster. It feels like they sacrificed quality for time.

You're right. There's nothing ethically wrong with the shaving razor or the ink cartridge business model. That said, I feel like this is an extension of the "use only official Nerf darts" on their other blasters, except this time, it's mandatory. For the people who buy this blaster for themselves, it's not a problem at all, but for grandparents who don't really know what everything means, and who don't always think about the product, the burden of buying replacement darts falls on either the kid's parents or the kid himself. If neither purchase extra darts, then the kid has a dysfunctional toy that isn't fun anymore. It's a scenario that will happen, even if infrequent. That said, great review. I love your videos. You're definitely my favorite Nerf content creator on KZbin. You're real and honest. Keep up the great work. 👍

All brands need a chance and nerf is just butt hurt because dart zone is taking the market by storm and hates the fact that they make everything compatible with its brand so Nerf can go suck it and I'm going to laugh my ass off when the Chinese puts a third-party dart out on the market cheaper then nerf

Good review Jared. You made good points on Hasbro and their right to their business model. I would like to point out that what they are doing with the ultra ammo in not in any real way "competing". To compete a company needs to differentiate their product either qualitatively, by features, or on price. This really does none of those things. Most (99%) of the blasters I own are genuine nerf because there are many qualities to those blasters that i feel are superior to their competition. This whole dart issue is just weak sauce. To be clear I'm not jumping up and down to bash on Hasbro. I'm speaking as an experienced business professional that believes that this is not a long term strategy for success.

Thank you for in depth review, dart comparison and internal look Jared. I know you're walking the line between giving the Nerf Community what it wants and appeasing Hasbro. Also thank you for filming the darts against a contrasting background so we actually see the trajectory. To be honest after watching the video and seeing it's not styrofoam I actually kinda like it. Ezekiel of Nerf EZE pointed out because it is elastic it's probably Expanded Polypropylene (EPP) and not Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) more commonly known as styrofoam. It's now just going to depend on availability and price.

Just got the Nerf Ultra One two days ago. Pros: 1. gorgeous gun, really beautiful 2.fits my hands well (but I have shorter fingers) 3. Front loading 4. It won’t accept any other type of ammo. If you try you’ll jam the round and need a long screwdriver to remove it. Cons: 1. If you don’t follow the instructions for assembling the feeder drum it may make the gun unusable. The tabs might break or not come undone if you assembled it in the wrong order. 1.5 The gun is not full auto, it’s semi-auto. 2. The range is less than claimed.(May be due to darts not being lined up in the chamber.) 2.5 The motor takes some time to spin up, so getting full range won’t happen if you shoot too quickly. 3. You must twist the darts as you load, making sure you line up the dart fins with the groves inside the chamber. The dart will drop in more easily when it’s lined up. The dart will go straighter and farther if you line them up in the chamber. 4. Because of the finesse needed to load the rounds you won’t have a fast reload time. 5. The drum makes it difficult to hold the front of the gun because it gets in the way. It forces you to bend your elbow. People with longer arms may not find this an issue. Small kids may find it tough. 6. The Ammo is easy to lose because it is charcoal in color with an orange tip. 6.5 The darts are super light and stubby so the wind will effect them more than standard darts. 7. Nerf did not include enough darts to fill the drum or the stock mounted ammo storage. Obviously Nerf couldn’t make enough darts to cover the first run of these guns. Call Hasbro and complain. 8. You cannot purchase ammo at this time. Call Hasbro and complain. In fact with Christmas coming there will be a backlog of orders for these new darts and guns. You may have to wait until January or later. 9. The patent on these darts may prevent aftermarket/cheaper darts from being produced for months or years. That’s my review of the Nerf Ultra One. Send me questions if you like.

The new Ultra dart has so much potential, I made a list: ______________________________________________________ - Double stacked magazine system - Realistic(ish) bolt-action rifles with internal magazines - Underbarrel Ultra-dart masterkey attachment - An LMG that could actually be used for mid-long range suppression fire, and that could be adapted to take belts or the aforementioned magazines. - A semi-auto DMR. - A select-fire battle rifle which used the aforementioned magazines. - A whole new Modulus line. - A dope hammer-action (or even double-action) hand cannon that you could "break" open to reload. - A "stripper clip" or speed loader for internal-magazine blasters. - Maybe a "centurion mkII" with better ergonomics than the original centurion, plus a removable barrel.

Great Video Jared, but I think that the "popcorn" comparission it's not accurate, i had never in my life bought 3rd party darts and I have a collection of blasters that use the 3 more popular ammo (elite and mega darts and the round Rival rounds)... A more accurate example would be: "You must buy my popcorn to enter the movie"... get it?... As I was saying I have expend a lot of money buying ammo for my blaster collection anytime I can but now hasbro it's telling us "if you want this new ammo you need to buy new blasters (using the same tecnology as the other flywheel blasters in the market just with a different diameter in the ammo holder), you said it right, a company needs to make profits, but I honestely think that hasbro would have reached the skies if this next christmas they launched a "ultra" blaster collection with new darts compatible with either the elite dart blasters or mega dart blaster...Man!, I would buy the blaster and use it with my standar ammo or the new doesn't matter we foam flingers always welcome a new family of blasters from hasbro, but this, I don't know, feels like a stab in our backs. Yor review as always was great, love the first seconds with the chonology of contents.

Nerf wants to be the Apple of the Foam Dart Blaster industry, the difference being they have the lion's share of the market already. Your right Jared, nerf is the creator and without them nerf wouldn't exist, but competition in any market is absolutely necessary. Could you imagine where the hobby would be today without it? No way would they all shoot so far or be as accurate or be as competitively priced as they are today, without the competition that's been provided by adventure force, x shot and the others. They all push Nerf to be better and in the end it's us the consumers who benefit from it. They force nerf to innovate and improve to keep their top spot. I like the idea of this blaster, it looks good and performs overall better than other standard dart blasters, but not enough for me to change to its ammo type when everything else I have fires the standard dart type and size or Rival rounds. I see a cycloneshock type rebarrel mod to elites, with 3d printed flywheels, in its future, so it fires standard elite rounds. Probably out October 2nd from your mate DRAC lol

All and all, I think it’s a cool looking blaster. I’m anxious to get my hands on one to text it’s ergonomics (that grip does look a little cramped). And, I do hope this dart type works out well for Hasbro and doesn’t end up being a gimmicky dart-type that decreases the blasters long-term playability. I’m sure I’ll end up pickin’ one up when they drop on October 1 (unless, of course, I win won in your giveaway!). - Jed 🤠

Great videos overview of the blaster and the internals. Great that you range tested and FPS tested you sample. Nice to see the flight of the darts and that they behave ( and don't behave) in the air. I get why Nerf and Hasbro have designed a new dart that only they sell, I get it, but... I don't agree with it. If Nerf want us to only buy official darts. Make them cheaper and more accurate...
@jacobbrada21405 жыл бұрын
Jacob John Faxholt exactly if nerf really cared about their products they would just make a better nerf elite dart that isn’t overpriced. It’s like Hasbro sees how dartzone -and other companies- are taking more away from nerfs long held monopoly as the go to foam blasters. But instead of changing prices they just try and create a bubble with no competition for ammo. But this just backfires on them because you can patient a darts exact dimensions (height and width). So even if the line does well no one will buy the expensive and poorer performing nerf darts once another manufacturer creates a less expensive one with the same (or even better) performance. Additionally the selling point of they line is just the longer distance stock. But it’s just an FPS boost something that can just be modded in, or just gotten for less with dartzone. The higher FPS is great and all but for dartzone 85-90 FPS averages is just normal, and with dartzone’s pro line is capable of hitting 130-160 FPS with standard dartzone darts and nstrike style magazines. I like Nerf and don’t want say they suck. I still prefer there blasters over other brands but for ammo it’s just silly for them to expect 100 nerf elite darts to sell when right next to them for 5$ less you can get a box of 200 dartzone darts that have accustrike performance to an informed buyer it’s a no brainer to pick the dartzone ones. Especially now when consumers have access to information over the internet. The uniformed parents that might buy the nerf darts because it says nerf can now search “best nerf darts to buy” and see that official nerf darts are trash compared to 3rd party or brands like dartzone. So that’s my rant.

'Right with you when it comes to their colour though - black might look stylish but would be a nightmare to find out on the field. Personally I'll hold back on getting anything Ultra, just to ensure it's not another flash-in-the-pan like Vortex, and also to ensure the blasters / ammo actually arrive in the UK.

Interesting direction for Hasbro to go. New ammo type is always fun to see the limits and benefits. Curious as to how ULTRA darts will perform in springers and how far Hasbro can take this line and remain profitable.

If this is part of a new line of Nerf blasters I really hope they stick with the gold lettering.

Love the vid as usual. Like I said my son and I watch them together and as a lifelong nerfer it’s cool to see dudes out age making this kind of content. As for the blaster. Definitely has potential, but I don’t think with the ultra dart series they’ll ever be able to do a spring blaster, the fins on the back and over all dart body design will not allow for a tight air seal

I like the possibilities here and hope that this ammo is received better and is more available than vortex was.

Fisrt of all, I'm so gratefull from such a deep and good review... I was waiting for it and you never disappoint me. Second, sorry for my poor english. Ok, so in those ultra darts that come out the right way (not in those that deviate), accuracy is not as good as with rival rounds, even though it approaches closely. But is the range better than a rival round fired from a Perses (in strainght line, not arc)? Would you say that the accuracy is better or worse than that of a Waffle (Ekind or similar)? Don't you think the flywheels themselves will generate some wear on those fins? Without that hollow interior of the normal darts, do you think springers can be designed to fire this new ammunition? If the precision and range is so better than that of a current springer with waffles, I would love to dream of a future sniper blaster that is actually a sniper blaster... And, another time, thank you very much for everything you do.

It looks really nice, do you think they'll make an ultra springer and is it even possible with the dart not being hollow?

It is an interesting concept. It will be entertaining to see how this works out. Thanks for an informative video.

you called the drum a "magazine". it is an indexing drum. the mechanism propelling the ammunition is inside the blaster, not the drum, therefore it is a circular clip, not a drum magazine.

Definitely the first to compare the blaster to golf clubs but Drac has done Nerf golf.

Bingo, I’m a prophet. Jared, as consumers it’s our job to make sure that companies don’t create monopolies, and that’s what nerf used to have. They want that monopoly back, but monopolies ruin the free market. If Nerf is allowed to have a monoploly, they will never create innovative products because there is no pressure on them. The comparison to printer companies is spot on, because they have created a monopoly, in which they can charge up to 100x the actual value of their ink, this is one of the prime and most famous examples of a monopoly, which makes it funny that you used it to try and reason that nerf creating a monopoly is okay. We cannot just let ‘business be bussiness’ because that’s how we get imprisoned markets. As customers, it is our responsibility to stop companies from doing this kind of thing so that there is competition between companies, creating innovative and better products. The community, no quotes, is not only fighting for the betterment of the hobby, but also the improvement of the market for the children that these toys are made for. This is the kind of product that is made to take advantage of parents and children that don’t know any better than to do what the company tells them to. And the problem with price is not that there isn’t an option for offbrand ammo, that will surely come within the next year, they always do. Rather the issue is that these darts are twice as much as even the very expensive rival ammo. Even if you only buy official darts, this is overpriced comparatively and objectively. DO NOT BUY THIS. IT IS FALSE ADVERTISING AND I WARN PARENTS THAT THIS PRODUCT WILL ONLY REQUIRE YOU TO SPEND MORE MONEY ON DARTS THAN ANY OTHER KIND OF NERF DART THAT YOUR CHILD WILL IMMEDIATELY LOSE.

The problem with your popcorn comparison is that popcorn is a concession. It’s optional. If you don’t want to shell out you don’t have to. The new darts are required to use the blaster. This is an awesome looking blaster, but the proprietary darts feel like a cheap trick from hasbro. Not to mention, they don’t even give you extras. Really feels like a stab in the back. If the price of the new aerodarts is right, then sure, it’s acceptable, but it’s hasbro, so they’re probably gonna be 25 cents each. Also, to address the inconsistencies you encountered, you did say you’ve had it for a couple weeks now, so there’s a possibility you have a prototype or an early production model. I hope this is the case.

Designs have patents, words and phrases have trademarks. The TM after Aerofin means the term "aerofin" is being trademarked by nerf and has nothing to do with the proprietary aspects of the dart design.
