You are a treasure in KZbin fitness. Recently I was struggling with my overhead press and found one of your older videos that immediately helped me fix the problem. I appreciate the access to your immense knowledge.

Which videos did you use ? Hardcore struggling with OHP, 77” reach at 5’9 isn’t helping at all lol

@James Cigana it took me from failing 135 for even one to getting an easy 5. Once you try out the tip of bringing in your grip everything feels so much better. I was going way too wide and my pressing power suffered. I’m sure you’ve got plenty of prs to come

Bromley is sick as fuck when it comes to OHP programming.
@enigmatic76653 жыл бұрын
@James Cigana strict press is a lot harder, push press is great for getting the triceps used to handling more weight on the lockout. I prefer strict press just cuz it feels better. But if I’m doing log then I always push press

This is a nice explanation. It’s not a mega hit Bc it’s not sexy and is very boring at times actually for some personality types. Thank you for such an awesome review. I agree on the Deload for outliers and beginners. I also agree that we’ve / I’ve learned a lot of this stuff from the greats who came before me. None of this is new. It’s just organized and structured. And it’s def not an equipped program. Nobody cares about that except maybe 10-11 People.

Appreciate you sending the books! There's a lack of complete works in the world of 'strength e-books' and the organization you gave this is what sets it apart.
@BrianCarroll13063 жыл бұрын
@@AlexanderBromley I appreciate that. There are weaknesses in every program/approach. WE continue to improve it with new data and experiences. I'm leaning more toward a less rigid 3rd week deload, and more of a 3-4 weeks then deload for current clients. Everyone is unique too.

Thank you for the review. My basic thinking - I am older now and avoiding injury while getting stronger is key. You have laid out all the important points and I appreciate your noting what 10/20/Life isn't - that's excellent. I ordered it and am looking forward to a new program as I have been on the current program for years and have almost peaked out.

@ Alexander Bromley I've read your book (Base Strength), which is great by the way, and just what I needed because I've been stuck in low volume/high intensity for too long. But don't know where to post this question so I'll take a chance here. I'm going to run the "Powerbuilder" program you have outlined, but unsure what the parenthesis means in the wave sets. For example 60% x 10 , 70% x 8, 75% x 6, 80% x 4, (70% x F). Is the last one optional or an "back-off" set?

I'll never not say this anywhere I see it posted/discussed. 10/20/Life 2nd Edition is easily one of the easiest to read and follow powerlifting books, while not being completely dumbed down, for us meatheads to follow. And the warm up section with contribution from McGill is worth the money alone. I've got quite a few books from the likes of Tudor Bompa, Chad Wesley Smith, Mike Israetel, Thomas Kurz, Wendler, etc. and I refer back to this one more often than any of them. If Brian sees this, maybe buy a beer for Byrd, as he's the one who made me aware of the book years ago.
@AlexanderBromley3 жыл бұрын
I remember you commented that in a previous video and it stuck while I was reading it. This is very much a book on powerlifting where others are either too shallow or way, way too deep. The appropriate level of depth it strikes for the audience it's targeted to is more important than any prescription of sets and reps.

Really enjoyed the explanation, as always you are the best at laying everything out in black and white. This is very similar to what I do for my own programming for the past couple years, definitely getting this book to see if I can implement some of this or maybe even try out at least the peak phase I do need work on that

Awesome review, and awesome book, read it about 2yrs ago. I think its about time to reread it, now that I'm more knowledgeable about training. Would you review Matt Wenning's Powerlifting manual? That would be awesome! Thank you for all the content you put out. Bought and read Base strength, waiting my paycheck to buy Peak strength. Wish you all the best.

@Jmack78613 жыл бұрын
I know you’ve talked about juggernaut, but is there any way you could review chad Wesley smiths “powerlifting program design manual?” It isn’t a program but it’s a manual on how to program - but detailed and not just going over scientific principles. It has charts that allow you to determine working sets, percentages, and other parameters based on age, body weight, training age, etc. I just received it in the mail today and I like to consider myself pretty well versed in programming theory and on the surface it seems to be amazing. Would love your thoughts on it.

Thank you for the review! As usual a helpful video. Being going through back to back small injuries, small but enough to hinder my bench progress for months, I feel inclined to buy this book. How do you make the split if you're not peaking for a meeting? Repeat the first 10 weeks over and over or follow the 20 weeks template anyways? Is this addressed in the book?

All thats nice but I actually like to intuitively periodize all over the place. I did science on the internet bro. Im actually going to the gym now to do bicep curl negatives with 120% of my 1RM followed by rack pull above the knees with all the plates. Im fixing to give my biceps all the stress at once so I can get all the gains at once. **straight face**
