This is a good deal. Especially since you can reuse the bottles and bands. It also gives you a a nice storage container that you know your stuff will fit in. Your shirt was very pretty.

I'm glad you did this. I did some tie dye using a Tulip kit, and I thought maybe adding the extra step of soaking in soda ash first might help the colours turn out brighter, but it didn't really. So seeing how this turned out gave me hope my projects can be better! So, I think next time I do a batch of tie dye I'll definitely get some professional dye like you use.

Thank you! I think the dye was pretty good, but there just wasn't much of it in each little bag. It was quite a bit less concentrated than what I use.

I got a similar kit from Amazon, did a "rainbow" project and found that the colors were dull and looked faded from the outset. I think these kits are good for kids and for first-timers to tie dyeing.
@FunEndeavorsАй бұрын
Yes, most of the kits use the same kind of dye. However, the colors aren't quite as vibrant. They either don't add enough dye to each bottle or they add the soda ash to the bottle which makes the dye start to immediately react and have to be used very quickly. I think the kits are a great way to start tie dyeing though to see if it is something you like.

I've used the kits from Tulip and also bought (mostly from Dharma) and mixed my own dyes. I think both have theirs pros and cons. Mixing your own can definitely result in more vivid colors and, depending on the color and size, could be cheaper - but the shipping charges are HEFTY. On my first order from Dharma I ended up paying more for the shipping than I did for the actual dyes and chemicals. Ouch! The kits are a little more on the no muss, no fuss side since the soda ash is already mixed in. The Tulip kits come with the dye/soda ash mix already in the bottles. So far I've never run into one where the powder has leaked out, though I have had bottles leak once the water was mixed in. Tulip sells a kit similar to the one you reviewed that can be purchased from Walmart for around $18 (at least here in SC) but it's around $25 on Amazon and $35 at Michaels. One of our Walmarts is going out of business and has everything on sale for 50% off so I snagged several of the Tulip kits. I think their colors come out a bit brighter than the ones in the kit you tested. I got some really nice bottles off of Amazon recently (no leaking so far and the price was great!) so I'll transfer my Tulip dyes to those and continue using my Dharma dyes as well. Now if I just had the patience to get all my folds as neat and tidy as you do!

That's great information - you are a lot more knowledgeable about the kits than I am. I think that kits are a great way try tie dye before making a large investment in dyes and supplies. Shipping can be expensive depending on where you purchase your dyes. If you are in SC, have you ever purchased from Prochemical and Dye in MA, or Custom Colours in NC? Custom Colours offers free shipping for orders over $35, and Prochemical might be cheaper since it is closer to where you live than Dharma.

@@FunEndeavors I haven't ordered from Custom Colours yet. I was going to, but they were sold out of most of the colors I wanted so I had to put them on the list to try another time. I have ordered from Prochemical a couple of times and their shipping fees were a little better than Dharma's, but not by much.

@@rebelwitch7 I know that the Custom Colours website is sold out of quite a bit of the colors. I've contacted David from Custom Colours before though and asked if he happened to have what I wanted in stock. I believe that he runs the business by himself, so sometimes he just hasn't gotten to updating the website yet. I've found that for the other suppliers, the shipping isn't too bad if I need quite a bit of stuff. It's pretty high to ship where I live though for just 1 or 2 colors.

I looked this kit up on Amazon and there is only one yellow included.ONE! You used it on the first shirt. Yellow is a primary color! You can also mix orange and green with it. There needs to be way more yellow with this kit to make it useful.
@FunEndeavors3 жыл бұрын
I'm not affiliated with the company - they just contacted me and asked if I would make a shirt using their kit. You are right though - there is just 1 yellow. I went back and looked and there is a highlighter yellow and gold included too, but only 1 pure yellow. Honestly, I don't think they intend for people to be able to mix their own colors. They included a lot of different colors, but not very much of any of them. Each bottle is only 1.7 ounces, so I wouldn't count on getting more than 1 shirt from each bottle of dye - you would probably need to use 2-3 colors too if you are making an adult size shirt to get it well saturated.

I think if they made the bottles pre filled it would be more user friendly, like the Tulip or Jaquard brands. I’m curious where the dye comes from? Are they just repackaging Dharma dyes? Good for them on trying out a new venture. I think that’s great. From watching your tutorial twice... I think there are other brands that are more beginner friendly. The overall shirt looks great. If it batched longer would it be darker/brighter... the instructions say only 6-8 hours, you did 12. At 24 🤷♀️? What is the price point?
@FunEndeavors3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I really liked the little bottles, but I think they would probably have to seal them some way if they pre-filled them with dye - because when I opened the kit, some of the lids were off of the bottles. That would have been a mess if they had powdered dye in them. I'm not really sure where they are getting the fiber reactive dyes. I looked the kit up online and it retails for $25.99. I haven't priced tie dye kits and so I'm not sure if that is a good deal or not. If I hadn't ever tie dyed before, I think it would be fun to play around with and see if I liked tie dyeing. There is a really good color variety to play around with. However, I don't think that batching longer would have made the dye brighter. There wasn't much powdered dye in each bag, so there wasn't enough to mix it as concentrated as what we use. When I looked at their website, it looks like they have a variety of art products for painting, resin, etc... This kit was the only tie dye product that I saw on their site.

@@FunEndeavors I do like the little tote it comes in. With anything there is room for improvement. They are off to a good start. The last kit I bought was in August and it was the Jacquard brand. Three 16oz primary colors with soda ash and some rubber bands... it was on sale for $12.99. Approximately half price at Craft Warehouse. Everyone is tie dyeing so I think they will do well. 😁 It was very nice of you to demonstrate the kit for them. ❤️🌈

@@FunEndeavors I can't say if batching longer for your brand would have helped but I can say, I used Tulip, and batched 48 hours, and still got faded results!

@@epenn76 Yes, I don't think that it would've helped. If the dye isn't as concentrated to begin with, batching longer won't help.
