I absolutely love watching this over and over again! One question: How did you get the rest of the electronics (Kombi, LCM, Body electronics, etc...) to communicate with the electronics of the new electric drive?

Glad you like it. This car doesnt have CAN bus, I only programed arduino to get cranckshaft sensor signal , combine with controller I got Ampermeter. To get control lights on tacho , i bought used one for testing, and everything else is working propertly , like aircond , ABS , heating control, etc..

I didn't tested yet. I didn't go more then 150 . I beleve 160-170. but I have short diff 3.45. I need to replace it with 2.9 gear ratio wich I bought but not installed yet

How are you controlling the gauge cluster? Abs and airbag systems tricked into operation without ice engine?

gauge cluster is working with ABS sensor, ABS is also working , not depend on ICE, airbag to . ICE is getting cranckshaft sensor signal emiting by arduino on idle . ICE is happy with that

@@bimerev I have a e36 project. It has no Can Bus. But I am confused how to drive tachometer. Do you use starter wire to control contactor?

@@blackterminal mine also doesnt have can bus. Gauge cluster will work with abs sensor or signal from gearbox. Don't know how is on e36. I give signal with key to central bms, central bms start controller and controller start contactor.

I think probably purist are super mad about this conversion, but to me is absolutely amazing! More converted E39s means being able to see more of them on the road for the years to come! The E39 is in my top 2 favorite cars list and Im so happy people like them enough to attempt such great challenges! Well done sir! Please let us know about costs. I'd love to get one converted!

I have an E39. I really like that this conversion maintains the gears. Maybe in a few years when lighter batteries are available. The DC drive directly replacing the motor output makes a lot of sense and seems it might allow for the car to maintain traction control, too. Very nice.

Hello, tnx :) , glad you like it . Servo pump is from toyota mr2 spider. Controller has two 12V output for indication light. I bought similar dashboard from wrecked car for testing and discovering wich pins are for what because I didn't want to damage my original dashboard. For lightning check engine and battery you need to connect particular pin to GND. I used 12V relay as switch to GND . So simple is that :)
