Hey there, I was hoping if you’ll sell me cuttings of your White Madeira #1.. I’m a big fig enthusiast with a little backyard, so I’m trying to collect just a few varieties, and this WM#1 is in my bucket list 🙏🏼

Strange that so many put this in the top tier, being in the Adriatic family. Looks just like JH.

I'm curious, why do you put WM#1 in the adriatic family? I guess it depends on how you define "adriatic" but there is no evidence it originates from the adriatic sea area. If one includes WM#1 in the adriatic group then one should also include other green figs with red pulp like Col de Dame Blanc etc.

As I think I mentioned in the video I think it compares most closely to Adriatic JH in my collection. But I consider Adriatic JH a top-tier fig as well. It and WM#1 are the best performers in my collection among the green figs with dark red pulp.

@@gofigurefarm749Adriatic figs are green skinned red interior fig with intense strawberry flavor (light berry flavor)

@@nima16042 Yes, it does seem as though in the past few years most use the term "adriatic" to broadly mean a variety with green-skinned fruit, reddish pulp, and some aspect of berry flavor. An issue with that is that taste is subjective and different people will taste different things in the same fruit. I can't recall ever tasting strawberry in a fig and have tasted many different so-called adriatics. By this definition many widely unrelated varieties could be put under the adriatic heading. I guess that's ok as long as everyone uses this definition,

@@nima16042 There are so many varieties that would fit the category most people use for "adriatic" that it would be hard to believe there is any close genetic relationship that ties all of them together. No doubt, within the category you are going to have a few that are synonyms and a few that are related to each other but I very much doubt you would find that varieties as different as Green Michurinska, Verdolino, and Col de Dame Blanc (which all have the green skin, red pulp, berry-like flavor tones) are closely genetically related. For one thing, their cold hardiness, fruit size, and ripening time is way different. The only way to establish genetic relatedness of fig varieties is to do the genetic/genomic analysis. Beyond that, it is just speculation. Finally, a fig can be described as having flavor X by someone on the internet but, given that flavor is so subjective and is influenced by so many things such as weather, ripeness, nutrients, etc, my advice is to take this with a grain of salt until you grow the variety yourself and taste it under a range of conditions. Even then your perception of flavor and someone else's may be different. Enjoy your recently purchased WM#1!
