Even when nothing is going on in the film, there is still so much wonderfull heartfelt realism to enjoy. This critic with the glasses has no right dismiss it´s appeal just because he doesn´t understand it.It seems as if the making of such films which reflect the beauty and innocence of the working classes struggling through life despises him. He´d be much happier watching some arty farty shite where nothing happens but he can comment on it as if it´s really deep and intellectual. Knob.

I think Michael's comment rang a bell most strongly for me - "It was like looking over my garden fence in my childhood".it is slightly absurd, but reality is a bit like that.

Very interesting listening to what they have to say about Life Is Sweet, but I feel all of them have totally blinked and missed the plot and the point of the film.

These 'critics' are such wonderful cliches. This is almost a SNL sketch... unfortunately there is no punch line. These people are hysterical... in a low key sense of course. And now back to Lord Twombly and his tuba recital. (Do you like our glasses?}

I think the film is wonderfully bittersweet. One of his best imho.

......Michael Dobbs sentiments are spot on, speaking as someone who has knowledge of the area in which the film was made ;>]

Posh people and Americans not really getting Mike Leigh and the working class struggles...

I don't know who Piers Gough is, but I hope he found a different line of work. Talk about someone who has no business talking about film. I hope Mike Leigh never had to suffer through this terrible "review" of the film.

Personally, I loved the movie.

@MickeyLove01 or perhaps they're just having a discussion and giving their opinion?

This just proves how dim-witted and absurd so called "critics" and "film experts" are about anything. 28 years later it is regarded one of the finest films ever.

Is the Giants jacket for the S.F. Giants, or is there a British Giants? Just wondering...

Oh I just saw the sleeve and I think it says S.F. so I answered my own question.

You have to be a certain type to appreciate this stuff. Why rip it apart to appear more enlightenment that those of us who don't need to hear all this utter snobbery. Get over yourselves

just the usual Mike Leigh film - looking down at the little people in society.

Jane Horrocks and Timothy Spall's characters just do not work in this. They're trying too hard and the accents are awful.
@rnw27394 жыл бұрын
I love Horrocks' Nicola although I concur, her accent, as you rightly say, is appalling. I know she is rank Northern so to attempt a London accent is admirable, however she sounds completely alien to the rest of her screen family. She opts for very rough Cockney where the others are mainly just generic London. As for Spalls Aubrey.... embarrassing. I like alot of Spalls work and do rate him but here he seems to be desperately trying to play 'Off the wall/slightly deranged' but what comes over is quite amateurish IMO.
