SDRplay has done it again with an outstanding and technically sophisticated software-defined radio that even at $280 is still a bargain. The video compares this with the previously-released RSP-1A. Have fun with software defined radios. And do serious experimentation, too! Covers 1 kHz to 2 GHz, and no, that's not a misprint!

Great review Dave. Just got my rtl-sdr v3 hooked up and installed using sdrsharp. Somehow I did it in a way that I can plug in any see device, scroll down ,choose it and play it. Buying another today. Probably a sdrsharp product . By the way, studied long and hard for my license only to find out my club only test twice a year. Gonna have to travel a bit. Thanks again for all your hard work and great reviews. Keep up the good work. Unfortunately I haven't found an Elmer yet. So I'm doing it on my own. For now . Thanks again Dave . Thanks Dave, I own the RSP-1A, I can't fault it, even with a very short whip (3ft long) on it, it bought in so many signals from around the area here in New Zealand. A good friend of mine has the RSPDuo and thinks it's the best. Each to their own. Thank you so much for your continuing education of us Hams, it is really appreciated. 73, ZL3XD.

Thanks Dave. The RSP1A is on my wish list. The DUO is nice but overkill for adding a waterfall to my Icom IC-7000. Sure looks like a nice unit though. Keep up the great work and have a fantastic time at Hamvention.

Hi Dave...many thanks for doing the video...I have been off the air for years and this looks like a fun way to get back in touch w hamming...can you tell me how the sensitivity of the RSP1A is compared to a nice receiver/transceiver like the ICOM 756 PRO III (my last radio)? Can you hear the same signals? I Would think the 756 would be considerably better, BUT I saw a video comparing the sensitivity of the old RSP1 and the 1A and the sensitivity was markedly improved in the 1A so maybe it is not far from a nice receiver? Thank you for the great review! My 'Duo is on it's way! Please recommend the best wideband antenna for someone with few close neighbors and out in the countryside. All the land to use for a wideband antenna! I have a solo but its 200' away from the base station. Thanks!

I'm a Tech class, and am just learning about HF antennas with my new RSP2. In a small, 30' by 30' back yard, I've already enlisted our trees in the new endeavor of stringing wire literally everywhere. The dog, however, evinces some concern.

No, you can use just one antenna to one radio for most of the benefits.

Thank you for the reply. As you suggested, I'm now operating the SDRduo with a splitter and one antenna. It's perfectly awesome. I feel like I've taken my $1,000 transceiver (Icom 7300) and turned it into a $3,000 transceiver (Icom 7610). Keep the reviews and education coming!
