I've only owned one Byrd. It was the Endura sized one (Cara Cara 2, maybe). I got it thrown in for free in a trade, and used it around the house as a beater for a few months. There were pretty severe fit and finish issues, but my only real complaint was the plastic. It made the standard Seki-City FRN feel like a premium material.

I had no fit or finish issue with mine. The original edge was a little off but thats something that is easily fixed.

I actually bought the knife based on your video and it is highly recommended. Top price-performance ratio. I'll leave you a subscription. Greetings from Germany. Chris

My wife has a beater knife with 8Cr13 steel. Over the years it outperformed my expectations by several orders of magnitude. I help her with sharpening and I do it roughly once every 2 months, after she does crafts projects and cuts old boxes. At this point it's not the steel issue, it's just an "alphabet steel" reputation issue, because Chinese manufacturers had visibly improved the heat treatment but people haven't moved on trashing it.

Yeah if you know how to maintain the edge of your knives, it doesn't have to be the most expensive to work.
