Got one of those for my tenth birthday 41 years ago still got it today perhaps in the 80's they were better constructed still had the the cardboard and spring termials the green wire was for an aerial for radio circuits. nice bit of nostalgia.

Elenco, the makers of snap circuits created a similar gadget and it's a tiny bit higher quality in my opinion. though it is missing some stuff that the Maxitronix has. Also, about snap circuits I mentioned earlier, it is pretty similar except the parts snap together. they have a lot of electronics that are seen in normal electronics, like transistors, LEDs, capacitors, etc.

This is a modernized (though downgraded) version of the electronics lab Radio Shack/Tandy used to sell in the mid 1980s. I had that and the panel was cardboard, but the entire body was plastic including the bottom. The battery compartment was at the bottom of the kit rather than the top. It also had a clear plastic cover which protected the components and circuits when not in use. The instruction book is literally the same one that came with mine, though with an updated cover.

I had the Electronics 1 as a kid from Thomas Salter Science. Great small kit.

3:17he said it will not last you 20 years. I got mine from my brother and it is this exact one and it is 20 years (21 ok) and it still works

Howzit! I'm looking at buying one. I had a look at the Gakken Ex-150. Plastic and metal construction but the circuits are not as nice as this set. My opinion. What do you think of the Ex-150??

hi, i have not used the Gakken. The concept is good for schools etc but personally i like to have the actual components in hand, adds to the learning.

I liked your review however I would like to say that the 200 in 1 is a great way to start with kids , if you follow the book it explains each component and how it work, I would say that it would be step 1 then move on to the Breadboard .. :)

thanks, i think you have bright kids or you a good teacher

I agree, that's what the kit and manual are for, to learn what a resistor etc is and what it does. If my old man gave me a breadboard I'd have lasted 5 seconds. Got my Radio Shack Science Fair 100 in 1 for Christmas in the early 70s. Opened it and put it aside and played with my toys until about 7 pm when I saw my home from college brother using it. Got it away from him and the love of the kit was born, I used it for years.
