So I’m shocked. Almost every one I know has not been that excited about this knife. You definitely spent a great amount of time pointing out the details and did a great walk around. I also like how you pointed out the steel info m398 is definitely interesting stuff. Good stuff man .. very nice 👍

Hey Alex! This is high praise coming from someone with your background in knives - much appreciated! I think it takes the right person with the right preferences to get super excited about this knife. It was certainly very impressive. It’s given me a new appreciation for Shirogorov Custom Division knifes.

Outstanding review, totally agree with your final comments on why you might/might not buy one of these. Fingerprints on scales and flipper tab size are my reservations, albeit minor. The action sounds amazing and would be my primary reason to buy, just got to find one! If you like CD models, I also like the Stellar CD.

This knife is so good! I’ve owned many Shirigorov and this one is definitely only second to the absolute best Shiro the Quantum.
@ThruMyLens1003 жыл бұрын
So you feel the production level Quantum is better than the Russian Overkill?
@TripleEEDC3 жыл бұрын
Nice review! My Russian overkill has a fairly light Detent though.
@ThruMyLens1003 жыл бұрын
As did mine. It was just slightly heavier than the other knives I compared.

Mine has worked out in only a couple days.

I do like this knife, but I don’t love it. It just didn’t give me that ‘Wow factor’ that my shiro CD knives give me. I won’t say I’m disappointed but I was hoping and expecting more out of it. Also, great review!

Depending on the heat treatment m390 vs M398. Shiro's original m390 heat treatment was poorly done and later improved. It's anyone's guess about M398 until it's tested. Shiro's M398 will likely be different than other brands using M398. I wouldn't over pay for earlier m390 from Shiro, that's for sure. Iirc the improved ht was around 2019ish. The low performing m390 is not value regardless of how limited in production it may have been in. Something collectors don't really think about.

I think anyone who knows anything about knives and knife steel knows that much depends on the heat treatment. And I say that because you can’t ever discuss knife steel without someone commenting “But you know...it really depends on the heat treatment.” 😂🤣
@tacticalcenter86583 жыл бұрын
@@ThruMyLens100 many people don't know much about knives let alone heat treatment. Collectors are well known to not even caring as long as it's steel name x. Or worse they have faith in a brand who doesn't use a good heat treatment. The majority of the community involved in knives is ignorant.

@@tacticalcenter8658 True. I think it’s mainly why many custom makers keep using CPM154 and similar steels. Collectors don’t really care as long as the blade looks good and CPM154 is easy(er) to polish and grind.

Dude. I have an F3NS and Quantum, the action of the Quantum is better than the F3NS. Slightly stronger detent, smoother and it has a drop-shut action
@ThruMyLens1003 жыл бұрын
This knife reminds me a lot of the Quantum. I have not yet sampled one in hand. But they look nice.
@Fernando31ish3 жыл бұрын
I have both and the Quantum still beats ANY other knife I’ve ever owned. Including every Shiro I’ve ever owned.

@@Fernando31ish I really hope the new F95NL is tuned similarly to the Quantum. I know some people have it in hand from the Russian knife show, but no reports yet.

@@Fernando31ish, agree 100%, the Quantum needs to be held, open and close; there you have it, perfection.
