actually you can turned off the water by using the turner on the water assembly filter, it is just a matter of getting used to it. Watch the water flow as you turn left and right, there's no need to turn a lot to turn off or on the water(think 180 degrees enough). As to why they didn't provide the push button to turned on/off water, some might argue to cut cost BUT I think there's another reason. The older models with the rectangle button to turn off/on water uses a rubber diaphragm where there's a very small hole to let the water in. This method of controlling water is used not just in the older model water heater BUT also for washing machine. This method actually weaken water flow/pressure. I'm guessing by removing this part, it could actually increased the water flow/pressure.

I am fine without on off button for water though. The problem with the turner is, it's just not ergonomic. When you compare to electrolux leverage style turner, it's so much easier. This.., my first reaction is use the green turner even though it is also hard. Lol.
