As a creature of habit, I still refer to the 10877 as 877. I got my first pair in 2002. Wore them 95% of the time from 2002 to 2007. Had them resoled twice with actual Red Wing soles. Got my second pair for Christmas in 2005 and wore them about 75% of the time from 2006 to 2016. Got them resoled four times - twice with Vibram soles and twice with RW. Got my 3rd pair in 2016 and wore them 60% of time until October 2019 when I wrecked them working for a Farmer's Co-Op. Resoled them once with Vibram's. Just got my 4th Pair in January. Hoping to get many years out of them. Best made boot on the market. I also have a pair of 877's from 1979 that my Dad got my Grandpa for Christmas that year. He didn't get them completely broken in when he died in June of 1980. I don't wear them because he wore size 8.5 and I wear 10.5.

@@flexnlexus129 The boots I commented about are going strong and have been resoled with Red Wing soles. They're about due for another resole too. Just bought a pair of the 6 inch 875's at the end of December. They're just about broken in and got their first oiling on the 28th.

You did a real nice job on this review. I wore a pair of these until the soles cracked and then wore out 2 more vibram full lug resoles. They last and I got 6-8 years out of mine.

Gusseted tongues are actually supposed to be folded, it makes it so instead of one layer of leather between your shin and your laces there are then three when its folded. Thats why they give extra material. Most logger/jumper/work boots come this way.

I've seen many people say to downsize these boots, but I couldn't get them on. I had to get them in my actual size because the smaller ones were too hard to get on with my wide feet and ankles. I've had the 10877s for a couple weeks and really like them.

Enjoyed your informative review of the 877 boots. I'm on my first pair of 877 having worn the 875 in the past. I prefer the feel of the taller shafts and the design of the moc is more comfortable. The 877 and 875 are different in design and not merely a short or tall version of the same boot. BTW, you need to perfect you lace bows - they are "granny knots" and not true balanced horizontal bows!

i would prefer the the pre-2013 875 & 10877, it seems that they put much more effort on making those boots that are pre-2013 where the eyelets are intricately anodised and the "Red Wing" words are stamped unto it, and the logos! oh my God the logos on the side of the boot is such an important matter to let people know you are using red wing. My personal thoughts are the oro-iginal leathers looked and seemed more expensive than the newer ones. Good review bro keep it up!

Thanks for watching! They are better than you'd think. On sheer ice they are not great but that is true of rubber soled shoes in general. But my 8138's were my daily wearers last winter and did great in all kinds of winter conditions.

i have a pair (don't know if rare) of 877s form March 2013, where the eyelets are anodized brass, there's a red wing stamp on the ankle area, but i think the leather is patinaed "oro-iginal"... other quirks are speed hooks on top 5 eyelets and toe protection :)

My 8138s are frequently hikes in here in IA! Not a technical or super supportive boot, so I wouldn't backpack with them, but just for getting out, I think they're great

The Irish setter is a better fitting boot Those wing shooter are better in my opinion, tried the red wing moc toe, something just wasn’t right , then I decided to try the Irish setter , it was a better fit and the loop on the back ; I put them on with one hand , also with the speed hooks is a better lace up experience

No. They are made for steel workers we cant have steel toe in are trade which makes this model ideal for are trade.

Picked up a pair of 10877 from a red wing store the other day. Didn't know there was a difference between the 877 (which is what I asked for) and the 10877. I only realized I had the 10877 after investigating after your video! Haha. The boots feel great. I usually wear 11 up to 11.5 in size. They told me these boots run big and I was actually fitted to a size 10! I'm curious, were you a size smaller in these boots as well?

Dont buy heritage if you are planning to use them for work. Red wing "Heritage" are simply fashion boots

@@adminadmin9997that’s false, I know a lot of carpenters and interior finish workers who wear heritage boots. The only difference is how quickly they break in and leather thickness. The 877 is thicker leather by about .4mm over the 10877.

@Nismo_zr Z33 red wing corporate does not honor there warranty on heritage models if they find out you use them for work. Trust me I own like 20 pairs of moc toes. I'm a local 433 iron worker in los angeles Ca. I go through red wings like crazy I only wear moc toe 8 inch. I've had red wing tell me I voided my warranty because I used them for work. I even emailed pictures of my heritage moc toes to corporate on there website and they said there was nothing they could do because heritage is not ment for work. Call the red wing corporate in upland CA. Or the red wing corporate location in West covina CA. So they can put you on game. Nuff said.

@Nismo_zr Z33 it was multiple corporate stores in LA. Not a mom and pop franchise store privatley owned red wing door. Looks like you got a unicorn dealer. Or the dealer you go to doesn't do alot of volume so they will do anything to maintain a customer and bend the rules. For the most part heritage is not covered as a work boot like I said. I use them for work. Wether it was slaming steel and spinning reels in the rod patch with local 416 or welding or hanging and banging iron with local 433.

877's are okay, but they are painful to break in. My suggestion, wear the thickest most padded socks possible. Also, if you wear with insoles, protect your heels because the leather on the inside will rub your heels raw, not a good look. Lastly, it will take about 4 months to break in, and that's with wearing them 6 to 8 hours a day, being active in them.

FYI anything "heritage" from red wing are not work boots they are simply designed for fashion. I learned the hard way. Bought a pair of heritage 10877 style for work. I work construction Boots prematurely failed and red wing voided my warranty due to me using them for work. Waisted $300. They told me the boots are not tested for construction or work. Beware!

I hate that the lightweight traction soul wears down so fast and makes the shoe look weird. My LL Bean Duck boot has a different type of rubber soul which I believe it’s a bit more durable than the Moc Toes yet the heel has worn too quickly. So I can imagine how quickly these will wear out. RW are too expensive to have to have them resouled just after a year.

How did you feel about the traction in snow with the 10877, do you feel that it can hold up in snow weather conditions? It wont pick up dirt, mud or snow easily with its design but did you feel that it held its grip comfortably?

Nice review, here's A tip: get longer laces once fully laced tie a knot big enough at the end of the lace so it won't pass back through, than when you untie just pull the cross lacing loose and wah lah the boots loose but the laces stay in all the way up at the top eyelet. Also the wide tongue with the fold is proper, it allows a layer of padding against the lacing to shin area, after break in it will be comfy. Thanks again!!

I have tried two pairs of 10877 boots, both pairs about 3-4 months in had the leather insoles come unglued and separate from the inside of the boot and I had to remove them and install a regular foot bed. I wear them daily and work them hard, but for what I believe to be a purpose built work boot I'm very disappointed, even the stitching in areas has started to come undone. I have not done much welding in these boots either witch usually burns the stitching out of the mic toe.

Check out the Sawmills from the heritage line for winter. They are wool lined and have a wool insole to keep your feet warm.

Thats very strange. I own the 877 and have seen the 10877 in person. The leather in the 877 is called oro legacy but the 10877 leather is called oro original. Very slightly different. The oro original is a little darker.

I think it comes from when these were originally released and color was closer to the coat of an Irish setter dog. I’m not 100% sure though.
