We use the Ryobi 1200W strimmer and brush cutter to maintain our wild field.
We needed some serious strimming power to help us tackle a field that had become overgrown with grass and dock leaves. After extensive online research we purchased a Ryobi RBC1226I Electric 2-in-1 1200W strimmer and our verdict is in.
To get the job done, we required a strimmer with bucketloads of power, but didn't want to go down the petrol-powered route and our battery powered Makita strimmer that we use for trimming lawn borders neat in our front garden was underpowered and wasn’t going to cut it (quite literally).
The Ryobi RBC1226I ticked a lot of boxes (most notably that it was 1200W of power) and came with a metal blade attachment to potentially level areas of thick dense nettles and dock leaves.

Thanks for the review. I would buy one but sadly this model is not available in Australia. Come on, Ryobi!

That very disappointing Jon. It’s always surprised me that some products are not available globally.

I think I fitted the spacer for the blade the wrong way around! Would love to know how to rethread the strimmer though. It’s over £20 for a whole unit! Surely it can be re-threaded with line? If so, how please?

Thanks for the comment Becky. It's not uncommon to fit the spacer the wrong way around. It happens, and as soon as you start the trimmer you know it's wrong. We've actually not been using this one very often as of late as we've defaulted to our battery operated Stihl trimmer, so we still haven't changed the thread. I would imagine it can be rethreaded. I'll have a look and see and reply when I have any answer. If you get an answer before us, please let us know.

@@MyHomeFarm yes, apparently it can be re-threaded. I spent ages emailing spare parts companies on ebay! However, maybe because of the vibration caused by the spacer being upside down the bolts and screws at the bottom of the shaft had worked loose and the three small screws holding the protective stone shield disappeared altogether! I could barely hold the darn thing. At least I had tightened the blade on well enough. Quite frankly, this thing scares me. The instructions about the spacer aren’t great, I’m no thicko, usually, but this part should be enlarged.

It really does vibrate and wobble when the spacer is wrong, and it is a definite design fault and something worth noting about this trimmer.

How much size plant , we can cut
@MyHomeFarm
@MyHomeFarm 3 жыл бұрын
It cuts through most soft plants, even with thick stems. It’s fine for cutting dock leaves, thistles and other weeds. However, I would not use it to cut through hard plants because that could be very dangerous. Hope that helps.

Can I attach metal blade for this device
@MyHomeFarm
@MyHomeFarm 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Pradeep. Yes, it comes with a metal blade. So you can either use the metal blade or switch to using the nylon cord.

@@MyHomeFarm did you use bosch AFS 23-37 ? Which one should i choose
@MyHomeFarm
@MyHomeFarm 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve not used the Bosch. This Ryobi is excellent, but if you want to battery operated, I strongly recommend the FSA 86 R from Stihl: myhomefarm.co.uk/a-strimming-success-stihl-fsa-86-r-brushcutter-review

Can you tell me the model number of this Brush cutter please
@MyHomeFarm
@MyHomeFarm 3 жыл бұрын
Sure Dorothy. It’s the Ryobi RBC1226I Electric 2-in-1 1200W. We’ve also just reviewed a battery operated version that’s very similar from Mountfield: myhomefarm.co.uk/working-grass-mountfield-battery-operated-brush-cutter-review

What I do is I put the thickest wire And I remove the guard And I let a little more wire out, idk how much past where the guard used to be that's for sure So it'll cut more area It does hurt when rocks fly at me But I just wear long pants, eye protection and push trough And mine doesn't seem to self feed I have to let out the wire manually Is it normal like that?

Petrol not eco friendly but you're getting your electricity from a source that's just as bad.

We’ve got a 6.16 kW solar PV array, so our electricity is very clean.

But the 1200W AC motor is always running at fully speed at only about 7,000RPM so is using only 1.5mm diameter string and only cuts only 380mm (max.) A 25.4cc Ryobi petrol version can throttle up to 12,000 RPM and so it can use 2.0mm string and cut up to 430mm max. Petrol version cuts better?
