The original is on Nintendo Switch online, but they’re easily some of my favorite games. They’re just fun whimsical times but they can be difficult on occasion

I still need to play 2 as I loved the first Startropics. I know to keep my expectations a bit limited when I do play the 2nd game. Your review reminds me of how I feel with Jade Cocoon 1&2. I loved the first game so much, while the 2nd I did enjoy, but the magic was missing that the 1st game had. Plus they changed the gameplay completely. Anyways great review!

I've never actually beaten the original Startropics, but I did have it, and I played it for a while, but with me there was a complete skill issue in that I couldn't beat it. lol But oh my god I love the music in that game. Sad to hear the second game's music isn't as good. I started this comment before watching fully, so I kind of laughed when you mentioned comparing to the first game a lot when I started this comment with talking about the first game. That said, this game looks alright. I'll need to look up a playthrough of this one, because I'm still interested in it, but not enough to actually play it myself. It is a shame, though, that it does make some unfortunate decisions related to gameplay compared to the first game. Still I do wish we got more of this series!

Great review, I really liked the 1st game. It's a shame this one has so many flaws, but based off your footage, it still looks quite fun! I'll need to pop this into my NES sometime. I appreciate them continuing the silly story style from the 1st game. Startropics felt like a wacky adventure where you never knew what kind of trouble you'd get into next. The key word being adventure, it really did bring the feeling of adventure, pretty impressive for an NES game!

Yeah the first is a game I can replay at any time. It’s my comfort game. The second is still fun, but just doesn’t feel as ironed out as the first. Still worth a playthrough or 20 though
